TIMES FORGOTTEN

-----

“Hurry! It’s going to start even if you’re not there,” the boy shouted as he ran along the path. Gasping for air as he entered the town, a look of excitement came across his face. “It’s…it’s…” he stammered as he looked up at the varied array of decorations.

“Amazing?” the young girl finished his sentence as she walked calmly up to him. He looked over at her and smiled. “What?” she asked at his goofy face.

“Oh nothing, just….well I’m glad to be here,” a look of absolute glee came across his face.

The girl looked at the town, then back to the boy. He was rather young, only eleven. Dark blue hair reached almost to his shoulders making him look really ragged. He was shorter then the girl, but made up for it with his energy. “Well I am too,” she punched his arm playfully then ran off into the crowd. “Just try and catch me,” a smile crossed her face as she disappeared into the crowd.

After several minutes of searching the boy finally found the girl at a stand that sold bows. “Another one,” he said impatiently, “you already have a ton of them, don’t you?”

Glaring at him, she said matter-of-factly, “For your information, I only have ten bows, and none of them are from here. My mother bought my first one for me, and as for the second one, well that’s a whole story in it’s self. I was walking down…” By this point, the boy wasn’t paying attention, all he saw was what was in the sky. It looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn’t pinpoint where from. Then he realized what it was.

“Hey, Sil,” the words barely came out of his mouth, “Sil….SIL!” She looked over at him with an angry glare. “What do you want?” He ignored the nasty tone in her voice and just pointed to the sky, “Look.” With that one word she saw what had made him shout.

TWENTY-THREE YEARS LATER

Rain. All around a grey color seemed to fill the air. As gloomy as the day seemed to be, Saira had been up for hours, tended to the town’s battlefield. The painting on the field had faded over the years, and until now, had not been fixed. Saira had spent all morning fixing it up, hoping she would be able to rejuvenate the gym. The many years of decay had worn it to near nothingness. Tangled vines encased the building and made it look more like a jungle then anything else.

“Oh shoot, I’m out of chalk,” she said to herself as she looked around for more. She ran her fingers along her side and felt for the fourth pokéball down. Pulling it off the strap she tossed it to the ground. Opening up, a ray of light shot out of it. “I need some supplies, and not to mention, some food. Let’s head out to Veilstone, Lyvi.” The girl grabbed hold of the Staravia’s claws as it lifted off and watched as the ground below grew smaller.

-------------------

The sky was overcast, and not many Pokémon were out. The girl clung tight to the bird as she thought about how stupid it was to fly in this weather. Slowing down, her Staravia gently set her down before landing itself. “Thanks Lyvi, take a break now,” she said as she held the pokéball up and returned her friend to it. Strapping it back to her side, she walked up to the Pokécenter to talk with Nurse Joy.

Walking in, she noticed nobody was inside. Neither of the escalators was on and it looked rather desolate. “Hello?” she said as she walked up to the healing counter. “Anybody here?” Curious, she looked behind the counter and saw that one of the machine’s had been ripped apart. A little worried, she turned around and walked back into the town.

Outside the Pokécenter the day looked darker then before. Almost as if it was nighttime, the sky was a dark, dreary grey. Saira walked around the town with caution, as it was emptier then before. Perhaps it was her imagination, or maybe not. Either way, she ran the entire way to the department store.

Entering, she saw three men wearing grey coats with long dark blue pants that hid their shoes. They all had the same colored beret’s on. As she entered they all turned from what they were doing and stared at her. They definitely looked like they were up to nothing good.

“Excuse me miss, but you must be lost, this store is closed,” one of the men said. He said it so matter-of-factly that she almost believed him, but after some consideration she decided to debate it.

“And who would you be to say this store is closed? You definitely don’t look like the owner, and I know you’re not any of the sales associates.” She put her arms across her chest and glared at them intensely, “So who are you?”

The men stared at her and one of them finally stepped forward. Saira almost stepped back herself, but decided not to. “We, my dear, are Team Magent. We have taken this store, and for the matter, the town, under our control. There is little you can do to stop us.”

She started laughing and unstrapped a Pokéball and threw it in the air. A white flash blinded the men temporarily and her pokémon started attacking right away. “Honestly, there’s about a million of those pathetic teams. Get over yourselves,” she said with a chuckle as she saw them in a state of shock.

The men were taken aback by her brashness and started to run out of the store. “Bellossom, you know what to do,” and with that, Saira’s Bellossom released a move that stopped the men in her tracks. Saira returned her pokémon to it’s ball, strapped it back to her side, and continued on to the second floor of the store. She had supplies to get.

The second floor of the store was as empty as the first. Confused, she did the same as she did with the Pokécenter. She walked around, checked behind the counters, and once again found that the machines wires had been torn apart. Figuring it must have been the Magent men who did it, she headed to the first floor again.

“Did you guys tear up this town? And where is everyone?” she asked as she came to the first floor. The men all were lying on the ground still affected by the Stun Spore.

“No, we didn’t. We came here and everyone was already gone. We figured since the work had already been done, we would take over the town. Honestly.”

Not like she could really rely on anyone else, she assumed that the man was telling the truth. She figured if they were so easy to take out, that they would definitely not be able to empty an entire town out. “Alright guys, I’ll trust you…this time. Be careful not to run into me again.” With that, she stepped over them and walked out of the store.

Outside, Saira started to unstrap a pokéball from her side, when a hand grabbed her wrist. She tried to turn around, but found herself unable to move. Confused, she started to call out for her Bellossom, who could break out of its ball if necessary. To her surprise, she couldn’t get a single word out. Without any warning, she blacked out.

-------------------

“She’s doing ok. We haven’t figured out the medicine completely yet, but it should work substantially…for now, that is.” The scientist took his glasses off his face and cleaned them before replacing them. “Give her a larger dose and we might not be able to sustain her vitals, so I would strongly advise you don’t.” He almost looked as if he was concerned for a minute, but that quickly faded when he looked up at the towering man.

“Hmph, you should be ashamed. I told you I wanted it done days before her arrival, and you have yet to finish it, even though she is here.” He looked at the man not with disappointment, but with anger. “Since you did not fulfill your duty, your one and only duty, you will have to be punished.” With that, he pushed a red button on his desk and the doors to the office opened. Two men, who looked more tree-like then human, came in and grabbed the scrawny scientist who was by now in an absolute state of fear.

“-but…but sir please, it’s not my fault, the medicine is very unstable and...,” before he could finish his sentence the doors had shut. The powerful man’s mind was on other things, such as this woman he had captured. Elusive as she was, she would now prove very valuable to his efforts.

MEANWHILE, IN PASTORIA

“SHUT UP!” the girl yelled at the boy as she hit him with her textbook. He just looked at her and grinned.

“Your just mad I got Totadile and you got stuck with lame Chimchar! Not only does mine look cooler, but it also owns yours in battle!”

She was absolutely furious at him and decided that words would not prove this enough. “Ok, Mr. Hotshot, your water type is just sooo better then mine, lets see who can make it to Hearthome without getting hurt.” She grinned at her idea. “I heard there’s an annual fair there anyways, and it’s about that time of year.”

“Yea! Then afterwards we can battle with all the weak trainers who will be in town!” He smiled at the thought of defeating all the kids who would go to the fair. How unsuspecting they would be. “Well I’m off Kajt, guess you’ll be seeing me there!” He said as he ran out of town.

“Hey! Make sure you tell your brother before you leave! He’ll be worried if you don’t. We’ll meet back here in ten minutes so I can go tell my parents as well. She ran off in the happy way she always did, as he started to walk the opposite way to his house.

-------------------

“On your mark…” she looked over slyly at him, “…get set…” Running off to Route 212 she smiled to herself. About twenty feet later she shouted, “GO!” and laughed as he stumbled to get a start.

-------------------

Rushing into Hearthome, the girl started to shout, “IKE! IIIKEE!” Nowhere to be found, she assumed he had not made it there yet. Slowing down to a stop, she saw all of the bright decorations, and the varied people setting up their stands. “Hey Mihc, out ya’ come,” she said as she tossed her pokéball into the air. A flash of light later and her Chimchar was standing in front of her. “What do you want to do first?” She looked at him quizzically and he immediately went to a stand selling element stones and some other battle items. The sign above the store depicted the fire, water, and grass elements with very intricate designs connecting each of them. Deciding it was as good as anywhere else to start, she ran to catch up with him.

“So what do you want? I’ve already bought some Pokeball’s so we can catch some new friends, what else should we get?” she asked Mihc as she attached the balls to her belt. He looked up at her and then to the stand. Then, as if he had already known, pointed to an item she hadn’t seen before. It was in the shape of a pokéball, but was oddly colored, and looked slightly different in size. Picking it up, she examined it and told the merchant she wanted to buy it.

“Oh miss, that’s a…well a strange purchase you’ve got there. Picked it up while I was in the Johto region, quite a mysterious thing it is. Tell you what; it’s yours for free if you buy three elemental stones. Been trying to unload it since I found it.”

“Alright…” she said, “Hmm...I’ll take a fire, water, and grass stone.”

Paying the man the money, she put the stones in her bag and kept the ball out. She walked away from the stand and examined the ball. “Well Mihc, what should I do with it? Maybe I should have the professor check it out for me.” The inquisitive monkey looked as if he was in agreement, at least she thought.

Having just received him, she still wasn’t able to read him like other trainers could read their Pokémon. She decided he was in agreement with her and made her way to the Pokécenter. Walking in, she went to the telephone and dialed the Professor’s number.

“Hello? Oh hello Kajt, how’s your new Pokémon?”

He looked cheery as always, and it was good to see a familiar face. “Hey! He’s doing amazing, and we’ve really gotten along,” her Chimchar smiled as she was talking, “He’s really strong, in fact we made it all the way to Hearthome with just the two of us!”

Excitement filling his voice, he told her, “That’s really great, looks like you two have bonded really well. Now it’s time for you to start building up your party and exploring even more!”

“I know, but that isn’t what I called you about. I was exploring the fair here and came across a merchant who was selling this,” she held up the ball to the screen so the professor could see. “Well, what do you think?”

His face contorted as he was examining the ball. “Hmm…interesting, it doesn’t look like any Pokéball I’ve seen before. If you really want me to examine it, you could send it here to the lab. I would assume it was just mis-made, but you never know.”

“Alright, I’ll send it over right away, hopefully it’s something interesting.” She smiled as she waved goodbye to the Professor and turned the phone off. Walking over to the item transfer center she placed the ball in the machine and started to dial the Professors number. Before she punched send, a thought crossed her mind. She withdrew the ball from the machine and placed it in her bag.

-------------------

Ike entered the town and was in absolute awe. The entire town was covered in the most colorful decorations he had ever seen. Red and Gold lanterns were hanging from the sky and there were stands covering the streets. Hundreds of people were all over the town, and he could barely see past the first few stands, but he knew there must be a ton.

“Uhm, excuse me, but you better get to the Pokécenter and heal your Pokémon,” the older boy standing next to Ike said. He had almost forgotten that his Totadile had fainted on his way to the town, and he had to get another trainer to help him. Hopefully Kajt wasn’t at the Pokécenter, because he would be really embarrassed if she saw him.

“Oh! I’m sorry, thanks for getting me to this town. It really is embarrassing that I blacked out after my Pokémon fainted,” his face had started to turn red as he was talking. “Thanks to you I didn’t end up staying passed out on the Route.”

The boy looked sympathetic, but had already started walking out of town. Facing Ike as he walked away he said, “No problem, anytime you need me I’m usually in Hearthome or on Route 212, have fun at the fair, and be more careful!”

Ike started to wave goodbye, “I will don’t worry, and I’ll get to a Pokécenter right away!” Walking towards the Pokémon center he looked around at the city. It really was an amazing sight. Having lived in Pastoria his whole life, he never really left without his brother, which even then was rare. Hearthome was much bigger and vastly different. He entered the Pokécenter and took his Pokémon out of his bag.

-------------------

“Welcome to the Pokécenter, how can I help you?” Kajt heard Nurse Joy talking in the background as she walked away from the machine. “My Pokémon needs healing, it fainted on Route 212,” a boy said to the nurse. “Wait a minute…” Kajt said as she was walking towards the door. She turned around and almost laughed at what she saw.

“Ok Mr. Hotshot, who’s Pokémon is better now?” she shouted across the Pokécenter. Ike turned around and his face turned a deep beet red color. “How’s your Totadile treating you?” Mihc even joined in the fun by sticking it’s tongue out at Ike.

“Hmph! My Pokémon’s just fine thank-you. The real question is why are you here? I bet you had to heal your Pokémon too!”

She didn’t want to tell him about the ball, so she decided to not tell him the whole truth. “I just came to call the Professor and tell him I made it all the way to Hearthome,” then she added with a smirk, “without my Pokémon fainting!”

“Oh come on, don’t act all high and mighty! Let’s battle, here and now! I’ll beat you any day in a one on one battle!” His face looked as if it was about to burst. She could tell he was getting really angry.

“Alright, alright, let’s just enjoy the fair. We’ll battle when we get back into Pastoria. Right now, all I want to do is enjoy my new Pokémon and get to know it. I’ll wait for yours to get better then we will go check out all of the attractions.

“Ok…” His face softened and he sounded calmer, “…but I’m going to beat you once we get back into Pastoria!”

She laughed and walked up to the counter. Nurse Joy was almost done treating his Pokémon. “You know, the more your Pokémon faints, the less it will lik0e you,” she said.

He just shrugged and took the ball back from Nurse Joy. He threw it in his bag nonchalantly and started to walk out of the Pokécenter. “Ya know, I think it likes me fine enough thank-you. Let’s go check out the fair!” Mihc and her followed him out of the center. It was going to be a long day.

-------------------
Her eyes started to flicker, and a light shone above her. Slowly, she gathered the strength to open her eyes completely. The room was a simple one, a light blue, almost white color painted the walls. In one corner there was a chair, and as if to match the room, it was simple and wooden. Her eyes shifted to her own body, and she saw that she was wearing a white long sleeve shirt and white pants.

“Hello?” she shouted, hoping someone would respond. She tried to stand, but could only manage to sit up. There didn’t seem to be a door in the room she realized. She saw only the white of the walls and floor. She laid back down, deciding all she really could do was get some rest. Maybe it would help her figure things out later.
IN VEILSTONE…

“Wakeup! Saira, get up!” The boy was shouting by now at the girl as she lay still on the ground. She seemed almost lifeless, had her breathing not been able to be seen. “Please get up!”

“Wha…” she said as she started to regain consciousness. “What happened? I was leaving the department store and then I blacked out.” She was dazed, and was still trying to grasp the situation.

“You went to Veilstone, and they had just been hit with a massive poison attack. It must have knocked you out. That’s why no one was in the town!” He had a damp cloth and placed it on her forehead. It was very soothing, and she was glad he had found her.

“Thanks Jeff, if it weren’t for you I guess I’d be a goner for sure,” smiling, she closed her eyes, “Suppose those Magent goons were in for it as well.”

“Hmm…well I didn’t see them, so they must have made it out. I had heard on the news of the evacuation, and didn’t see you anywhere in town. Luckily I assumed you were out getting supplies. I rushed over there as soon as I could.” Concern covered his face, and she could tell he had been worried about her.

“Well, not to worry. I’m ok now and that’s all that matters,” she smiled, but her head was spinning about something. Hadn’t someone grabbed her after she left the store? Maybe it was an affect of the poison, but she wasn’t so sure. Pushing it out of her mind, she started talking to Jeff about the Gym and how she was fixing it up. He told her he wouldn’t mind helping her and they could start tomorrow. She needed a day of rest so the poison could get out of her system.

“Sounds good, I’ll see you tomorrow bright and early! We’ll get the gym done in no time!” he seemed pretty enthused by it and a big grin covered his face. “See you tomorrow Saira, get some rest! I’m serious, we won’t get anything done if you’re all sick!” With that, he walked out of her house with a grin, and she smiled to herself. Tomorrow was going to be a good day

BACK TO HEARTHOME…

“Hey! We need to get back home before dark Ike! Stop gawking at everything and let’s head home!” Kajt’s arms were getting tired from lugging her bags around, and she was surprised that Ike hadn’t been tired himself. “Seriously! Let’s go!”

“Alright, alright, just a second. I want to check out this one last stand…” he said as he walked over to a man selling Magikarp puppets.

“Augh, really?!” she said to herself as she walked over to the stand. She grabbed Ike by the ear and dragged him all the way to the outside of town. “When I say now…I mean now!” she said and started walking towards Pastoria. Route 212 was not as trainer-laden as it had been earlier that day, so it would be a much faster trek back home. Not worrying about catching any new Pokémon, Kajt wanted to get home.

Watching Ike slowly shuffle along, she thought of a good idea to make him go faster. “Hey Ike, race you home,” she looked at him and gave him a competitive glare.

He looked back at her and then started off running. “You won’t get the head start on me this time,” he said as he dashed ahead. She laughed at her good idea and started running herself. It would be nice to lie down for a bit after the long day at the fair.

-------------------

Back in town, Kajt walked over to Ike’s house. She knocked on the door and his brother answered. “Hey, is Ike home? I just wanted to make sure he made it back ok. He got so far ahead of me I couldn’t see him.”

“Yea, he was pretty happy about the fair too. Thanks for taking him there.” He smiled down at Kajt and she felt a lot younger then she did when she was around Ike.

“Ok good. To tell the truth, I didn’t take him to the fair, he made it all by himself! Well, relatively anyways. Another trainer did help him out a little. Although, I can’t blame him, I mean we just got our Pokémon and we really haven’t gotten a chance to train them ya know? Not like we’re ace trainers yet,” she laughed a nervous laugh and then realized Ike’s brother was smiling at her. She had been rambling again. “I’m sorry I’m rambling so I’m going to go home…” she said as she ran from the house and went straight to hers.

Her face had turned red as she burst through the door and up to her room. She buried her face in her pillow and just laid there. Hopefully tomorrow she could talk to him without making a fool of herself.

So this was my first fanfic written, tell me what you think. I can only get better if you tell me what's wrong! Also, you can tell me where you want it to lead. I'm just now starting to work on the second chapter. Thanks all!
