TINA's Nuzlocke Series

As i continue my training, things go horribly wrong. Two Psyduck team up on Daikuchi; i should have fled, but instead i took them both on. One of them crit an aqua tail, which allowed the other to finish Daikuchi off with a Water Pulse. Rest in peace my girl, you weren't exactly the MVP, but you will be missed nontheless.

We will instead be joined by John the hairy Diglett. As i'm training him up, he evolves into a Dugtrio with fabulous blonde locks. I train him up, then Hau and i go and meet the professor in the park. We tell him about what happened at the Aether Foundation; he says he'll certainly tell his wife about these events. He also tells us that to reach the next part of the island challenge, we need to take the bus from Route 10 up Mt. Hokulani. On the way out of town, i run into Lillie, who tells me that she's heading to the library to find a book on Nebby's species, Cosmog. I with her best of luck with that, and head south to go and explore Route 11 before i go and continue my island challenge. I stumble upon a wild Trumbeak here, which i catch and nickname Mehtori. I find the road blocked off by one of those gates only the trial captains can open, so i head to Route 10 as the professor advised. As i'm walking under a tree there, a wild Skarmory suddenly swoops down at me, so i panic and fling balls its way until it stays put. It will be nicknamed Hikouki. It'll be a while before the bus arrives though, so i decide to call it a day.

Now I am curious: What would you have done if you failed one of these nuzlockes? Would you just continue to the next game? Would just stop all together?
i actually did fail my first attempt at Pokemon White; wiped in the first N fight against his Purrloin. I just started over in that case; probably also what i'd do if i lost at some point other than right at the start.

Fair enough. I think just starting over if you failed so early on is fair. Would not make for an interesting story now, would it? Also, how did you lose that fight?

i underestimated him and went in underleveled. he also got several crits against me. i don't remember the exact details though; it was years ago at this point

The bus still hasn't arrived yet, so i decide to kill the time at the library. Lillie and i meet Hapu at the entrance, just as she was heading off on her Mudsdale. Inside, we start looking for Lillie's book, one about Ultra Wormholes and pokemon that came from other dimensions. We run into this universe's Acerola while doing this, who helps us find the book we seek. The book speaks of a pokemon that eats light, and about something called a Solgaleo that's supposed to protect Hawaii against this threat. Acerola tells us it was actually her dad that wrote this, ad that her family used to be great people who possessed a lot of knowledge on the region's legends. She still knows a lot on the subject, and wants to help Lillie in her research.

I already know about Ultra Wormholes and other worlds though, so i decide to go and explore the city's outer cape. It is here that i find one of those Dark-type Grimer, so i decide to throw a ball at it; it will be named Modder. I then realise the bus is about to arrive, so i hurry back to Route 10, where 2 of those Team Skull losers are trying to steal the bus stop. So i beat them up to kill the time; after they fuck off, Kukui arrives on the scene, and we board the bus together; on board, the professor tells me of his dream to found a Pokemon League here in Hawaii. When we reach the top of Mt. Hokulani, he shows me the view; in the distance, there's another mountain named Mt. Lanakila. That's where the professor aims to set up his league.

I wish the professor best of luck with that; we'll see if i'm still in this region when he achieves his dream. Anyway, i decide to go and explore the mountainside; the view here is truly amazing. While i'm staring down into the depths, i get approached by a wild Minior who wants to see the world, but before i can catch him, he decides to end his own life, exploding on me; always sad to see a youngster throw their life away like that. Anyway, i should head back to the peak and partake in the island trial there. By the door, the former trial captain Molayne shows up to wish me luck, giving me a Steelium Z to help me in the fight. Not sure how much good that'll do, considering this is an Electric trial, but thx anyway.

Speaking of, since this is an electric trial, Ingrid, Oogaa and 99 will be sitting this one out. Instead, we will take Rachel the Metapod, Ai the Luvdisc and Lover the Ditto, as death fodder. Sophocles is the trial captain here; he tells me he has a device to call in the totem pokemon, but the Dedenne that are supposed to power it are out and about. I help find them and put them in the machine; Blargh even helps out as well. It actually works a bit too well; the machine gets overcharged, but fortunately the totem Togedemaru shows up just in time to absorb the energy. I send out John to fight it; my foe opens with a Spiky Shield; blocking my move as he calls his ally Skarmory. The next turn though, John rips a Magnitude 10, bringing my foe well into the yellow, though a berry takes him out of the yellow as he deals massive damage to me with Iron Head. I opt to stay in though and risk the crit; Togedemaru does not crit me and dies to Earth Power while Skarmory sets up Stealth Rock. John can't really do much to Skarmory, so i switch to Suzy on a Steel Wing that both raises Skarmory's defense and triggers Flame Body. A fire Z-move later, victory is mine.

After giving me the Electrium Z, Sophocles wants to show me something in festival plaza. I just nod along and head off after he's done; i really don't care. When we're back in the observatory, Molayne finds the professor's weird superhero mask, so he asks me to bring it back to him in the Malie Garden. Rather than doing that though, i decide to train a bit. Once Ingrid evolves into her final stage, i decide to call it a day.

I thought there was a Molayne fight here, but apparently that's just in SM

When i arrive in the Malie Garden to give the professor his mask, i see that he's dealing with a bunch of Team Skull goons, including their boss, Guzma. Guzma and the professor seem to know each other; apparently they were both rejected as trial captains, but the professor chose to do something with his life after while Guzma stayed a loser. The professor suggests i fight Guzma, so i send out Oogaa as he leads with his Golisopod. I open with a flying Z-move, which crits and gets the clean one-shot. His other pokemon is Masquerain, for which i switch to 99. However, my foe outspeeds and does almost half with Air Slash; i do some damage in return with Charge Beam, but this isn't looking good. I opt to risk it and fire off a gust that brings him into the red as he brings me into the red. Now's the time to switch; Ingrid comes in, tanks a massive Air Slash and finishes the fight with Aqua Jet.

With that done, Guzma heads off, and i hand the professor his weird mask. At that moment, Hau, Lillie and Acerola arrive on the scene. The girls say they're headed through Route 11, and that that's also the road to my next trial, so i guess i'll head in that direction. I head through to Route 12, but the terrain's too rugged for me to pass on foot. Just as i'm about to head back though; i run into Hapu and her Mudsdale. I tell her about the problems with passing this route, and she decides to let me ride her Mudsdale across terrain like this, adding it to my Ride Pager. Awesome, thx. From horseback, one gets a great view of this route, and the horse is completely unhindered by the jagged rocks. We even run into a smaller horse along the way; i catch this Mudbray and name him Ozosnel. Along the way, i decide to check out the view from Blush Mountain, but the scenery there is spoiled by the presence of a power plant. As i try to leave the mountain again, i get jumped by one of those Electric-type Gravelers, so i catch it in a Quick Ball and nickname it Denkishi. The thrill from that encounter actually prompts Blargh to evolve into Vikavolt, so as to better be able to protect me from such threats.

I beat all the trainers and proceed onto Route 13, where i run into Hau, who decides to give me a Max Potion. Thx, i guess. Gladion then also shows up, telling us that Team Skull is looking for a pokemon named Cosmog, and that we must do everything in our power to prevent them from getting it. Anyway, i decide to deploy my fishing rod on this route, and i land one of the most hideous things i've ever seen. I normally release ugly pokemon immediately, but in this case i think i'll do the world a favour and keep the Bruxish trapped in a ball, naming it Roben. I'd love to now go and explore the desert north of here, but you're apparently not allowed to do that if you have not beaten the Ghost trial, so i decide to just call it a day.

Time to head on into the Tapu Village. The moment i enter this village, i run into Hau and we talk a bit about the professor's planned League; the entrance to Mt. Lanakila is here in the village. We're then approached by those weird Ultra Recon Squad guys, who decide to give us a history lesson about the Tapus fighting off Necrozma in ages past. Necrozma is apparently a creature from their home universe that devoured all the light there; they came to Hawaii to look for a way to stop it from doing so everywhere. I just nod along until they leave; i really don't care about their lore dump. Anyway, on the way to the Aether House where i agreed to meet up with Acerola and Lillie, i find a cute little albino Vulpix, similar to the one i saved back in Paniola. I of course catch the little bugger and nickname her Rin, but then i have to move on to the house.

Once me and Hau get inside, two preschoolers challenge us to a fight to protect Acerola from the strangers. They're cute, but we still whoop their asses. After the battle, Acerola comes in and clears the whole situation up; Lillie is apparently with Hapu somewhere. When i head back outside though, i find that this isn't true; Lillie is right there, being harassed by a Team Skull goon. I beat him up, but he did spot that Lillie's bag was moving, which may well be bad news. After we drive him off, Acerola comes out and says she heard a commotion. She decides to let Lillie stay in the Aether House where she'll be safe, but since Acerola is a trial captain, she and i should now be heading to her trial site.

So we head south along Route 14, but along the way, i decide to head out for a swim. I happen to spot another swimmer being harassed by a group of wild Frillish, so i decide to help him out and fling a Quick Ball at one of them; the others, afraid to end up caught, skedaddle. My new Frillish will be nicknamed Christmas. This route isn't exactly pleasing on the eyes though, so i head on and meet Acerola at the abandoned Thrifty Megamart site. Her trial is a ghost trial, so 99 will be sitting this one out. Instead, i'll be bringing Lover the Ditto, as death fodder. I also get a feeling Oogaa will not be safe here, so i instead take Rachel the Metapod. The challenge here involves taking pictures of ghost pokemon and then beating them up. As i'm doing this though, i run into a strange, creepy version of Acerola who tells me to leave the site, but i don't fall for it. When i insist on not leaving, she suddenly disappears into thin air. Creepy, but at least i can head on. In a small side room, i finally manage to snap a pic of the totem Mimikyu and engage in battle. I lead with Blargh, who eats a Play Rough that takes almost half his HP, then he uses Volt Switch to swap out for Ingrid. Mimikyu calls its ally Banette though; it's a 2v1 now. Play Rough does over half to me as Banette misses a Screech, then my Oceanic Operetta takes my foe into the yellow. I have to switch now though; Lover comes in and immediately dies to Play Rough. This allows me to bring in Suzy, but she takes over half from Shadow Claw and her Fire Punch does considerably less than i'd hoped. Things are not going as planned. I sack Rachel to safely bring out John and hit a Sucker Punch, but while my foe is now in the red, his Shadow Claw also brings me into the red, and Banette hits a Will-o-Wisp. I survive the burn with 2 HP left, but i'll probably need to make a sacrifice here. I heal John up a few more times so that my foes will attack him and trigger Tangling Hair, but then theu manage to take him out. Rest in peace John, you were a worthy addition to our team. We couldn't have beaten Sophocles without you. Time to avenge your death; Ingrid comes out, outspeeds and hits a Shadow Ball to kill the Mimikyu, leaving only Banette. I heal up as he curses me, then i kill him with Shadow Ball.

We won, but at great cost. John will not be forgotten. Acerola hands me the Ghostinium Z for my victory, but she denies that she was ever inside, or that there's a back room. I know what i saw though. Nevermind; i head back into the mart, catch Eus the Haunter and call it a day. I'll decide who replaces John next time.

Acerola heads back to the Aether House to check on Lillie and the kids, but i think i'm first going to explore the desert, now that i'm allowed to go there. In this sea of sand, i end up meeting another hairy Dugtrio, who looks almost identical to John. I end up catching it and giving it the nickname Johnny, but i'm unsure whether he'll get a spot on the squad. Coming into this desert was a mistake though; the sea of sand is not a sight worth seeing during a sandstorm, and i of course end up hopelessly lost. I do end up finding a Psychium Z, which is nice i guess. Eventually, i just call on Charizard and fly back to town.

Now it's time to pick out a new team member to train, who will take John's place. My choice ends up being Ozosnel the Mudbray, so i commence his training. It only takes one level for him to evolve to Mudsdale; he's that eager to contribute. Some training later, i head back to the Aether House, but i find that Team Skull has returned; their admin Plumeria is even here. So i engage in battle to fight her off; she leads with Golbat and i with Ozosnel. I tank a Wing Attack and strike back with Stomp, but it's clear this is not a winning matchup. So i switch Blargh in on another Wing Attack and kill with Thunderbolt. Plumeria's other mon is Salazzle, so i switch out to Ingrid and hit an Oceanic Operetta after tanking a Sludge Bomb on just 8 HP. I'll admit, i was sloppy this battle, and i almost paid the price. It was all for naught though; Team Skull has stolen the children's pokemon and taken them to their base in Po Town. At least Lillie and Nebby are safe though.

We'll get those bastards. Hau and Acerola decide to stay here in the Aether House incase they come back, but i'm chasing them right to their lair. I head off to the beach of Route 15, where i encounter one of the Elite Four from New York; Grimsley, i think his name was. He asks me to flip a coin; i pick heads. It lands on heads, so Grimsley decides to add a pokemon to my ride pager. Sharpedo knows both Surf and Rock Smash, so he's defs gonna be useful. So with that, i set sail, and catch Calamari the Tentacruel along the way. Once i hit land on Route 16 and heal up in the pokemon center, i decide to fly off to the Ula'Ula Beach because, y'know, i have time for that. There's a Crabrawler in the berry pile, so i catch the thing and nickname it Tamatoa. I fly back and continue my pursuit of Team Skull, catching Ametori the Pelipper along the way. I head on into the Ula'ula meadow, where i decide to call it a day.

As i proceed through the meadow, i get approached by a wild Floette that wishes to join my cause, so i let her into one of my poke balls and name her Eternal. Unfortunately, i've no time to stick around here and smell the flowers, nor to check out the narby Altar of the Sunne. I proceed onward to Route 17, but before i can charge into Po Town, i'm assaulted by a wild Scraggy. One Quick Ball removes that threat; it will be nicknamed Zurui. Now it's time to storm Po Town. After beating up the guards at the entrance, a cop shows up and introduces himself as Nanu. I of course immediately interrogate the guy on why the authorities just allow a bunch of criminals to take over an entire town, but he refuses to answer. He does know how to open the gate though, so i can get in.

Team Skull knew i would be coming and put defenses up, but no matter. I'll beat up all the grunts i have to. I break through all three lines of defense and make my way into the big mansion. I manage to find all the passwords and make my way to Guzma's throne room, so it's time to fight the chief loser and get these mons back. He leads with his ace Golisopod, so i send out Oogaa. To my surprise, a Supersonic Skystrike doesn't take him out, but it does trigger Emergency Exit and bring out Masquerain. I switch Blargh in on an Air Slash, but that does over half so i immediately have to switch again. Ingrid comes in on a crit Bug Buzz that she easily tanks, then Masquerain misses an Air Slash as i bring it to the yellow with a Sparkling Aria. another Air Slash brings me to the red, but my Sparkling Aria kills. Guzma then decides to bring Golisopod back, so i bring Oogaa back and finish him with Fly. Oogaa also stays in to deal with Pinsir, killing him in two Flys. Victory is mine.

Guzma sees no choice but to give me the pokemon he stole, and leaves after threatening to beat me up next time we meet. Sure dude, totally gonna happen. To teach the guy a lesson about stealing, i steal the Buginium Z from his room before i leave. Outside, i meet the cop from earlier, who comforts the scared Yungoos and promises to take it back to the kids at the Aether House. Acerola also shows up; she and Nanu seem to know each other. We all head back to the Aether House together, where something terrible has happened: Team Skull came back. The stolen pokemon were just a diversion, they've now kidnapped Lillie and Nebby. Immediately after he tells us, Gladion comes storming in, livid that we failed to protect Cosmog.

Gladion decides to take his anger out on me and sends out his Golbat, so i send out Blargh. I tank a Venoshock and kill in return with Thunderbolt. Next up is what looks like a Type: Null, but i know Gladion also owns a Zorua, so i don't know which one this is. Oogaa's good against both though, so i send him out and... get flinched and taken over half by a Bark Out. I now know this is not the real Type: Null, so i switch 99 in on a Hyper Voice, then i go to Ingrid on a Snarl. Ingrid tanks a crit Hyper Voice, but doesn't do half to her foe due to the Snarl lowering my special attack. I'm in crit range here, but i have to risk it. I tank another Hyper Voice, get into Torrent range and kill with Sparkling Aria. Last is the real Type Null, for whom i bring out Suzy. a fighting Z-move brings him over half, but Crush Claw does well over half to me. Ozosnel comes in on a crit Crush Claw, and i decide now is the time to heal up. Stamina means Ozosnel fears nothing after he takes a few hits, and i thus can batter my foe with High Horsepowers until he falls.

After Gladion calms down, he tells us that they most likely took Lillie to the Aether Foundation. That's what i get for being so trusting; i should have known those bastards were evil in this universe too. As we head to the docks to take a boat there, Nanu comes up to us to fight me and see if i'm ready. He also reveals that he is the kahuna of this island, so this counts towards my island trial as well; as if that matters now. He leads with Sableye and i with Blargh. Things immediately start out rough; his Fake Out and Power Gem take me deep into the yellow while my Thunderbolt does less than half to him. I swap in Ozosnel on what i thought would be a power gem, but instead i got a Shadow Ball that brought me to just above half and lowered my special defense. I have to switch again immediately, to Ingrid this time. She tanks her foe's hits easily and responds with a Sparkling Aria that brings Sableye to the red. One Aqua Jet later, Sableye is down. We're facing Krokorok next, so i send Suzy in to take Intimidate, then i switch to 99 on an Earthquake and to Oogaa on a Crunch. Could have switched to Oogaa immediately now that i think of it, but oh well. My foe swaggers me as i go for Flying Press, which misses. The next turn, things almost go wrong; another crunch combined with a self-hit take me down to just 8 HP. I see no choice but to heal up as my foe lands a crit Crunch, then his next Crunch lowers my defense; had Oogaa hit himself there, he'd have died. He didn't though, and instead he killed the enemy. Last is his dark-type Persian, against whom Ingrid takes the field again. I heal her up as my foe goes for Fake Out, then i hit an Oceanic Operetta that kills my foe in one hit.

As a reward for this win, i get the Darkinium Z, but this battle did show me i need to train more; there were some close calls. For now though, i'm calling it a day.

As i'm training something terrible happens. Facing a Gumshoos, i switch 99 out for Suzy due to the possibility of it knowing Crunch. What i get instead is Take Down, which takes poor Suzy out from full health. Rest in peace Suzy, you were never my strongest team member, but you will be dearly missed.

With my training done, Gladion, Hau and i sail off to the Aether Foundation for our big rescue mission. We conquer the dock area and take the elevator up, but we can't go all the way to Lusamine because Faba somehow reprogrammed the elevator to only take us to the first floor. He's awaiting us there, so i guess i'll beat him up. He sends out his Hypno and i lead with Ozosnel, who tanks a Psychic with ease and hits a High Horsepower to bring the enemy deep into the yellow. I'm in crit range now though, so i switch to 99 and finish things with a Shadow Ball. After we've beat him up, Faba agrees to allow the elevator to bring us to Lillie and Lusamine, on the laboratory floor beneath the docks. Turns out this was a trick; we do not actually find them here, but we do find a lot of their research on Cosmog and Type Null. Yeah, turns out these guys are exactly as evil as they are in my home universe.

We head back to floor 1, but of course the foundation has had time to prepare for us now. We fend off an ambush, then Wicke approaches us, heals our mons and tells us she's on our side. That's a pleasant surprise, but we still have to fight Faba again for access to Lusamine's office. He has an army of Grunts with him this time, so Gladion and i dispatch 2 of them. Then it's time for me and Hau to face Faba and the remaining grunt. Our enemies lead with Ledian and Claydol, so Hau sends out his Psychic-type Raichu and i lead with 99. I start by going for a Fly while the enemies gang up on Raichu and take him out. Hau then sends out his Incineroar, so the next turn, Faba switches Claydol out for Hypno, Fly kills Ledian and Hau launches a fire Z-move that brings Hypno to the yellow. The grunt sends out his other pokemon now, Pupitar. I hit it with a shadow ball for half damage as Incineroar takes out Hypno, which means Faba's Bruxish comes in. I've been hit by Pupitar's Snarl though, so i probs can't take him out this turn. Bruxish kills Incineroar and i bring Pupitar to the red as he hits another Snarl. Hau's next pokemon is Leafeon, and at this point i decide it's wisdom to switch to Ingrid, who tanks a Crunch from Bruxish while Leafeon kills Pupitar. It's a 2v1 now, but that doesn't mean things can't go wrong. My foe launches a devastating Psychic Fangs that kills Ingrid. Farewell my girl. You've been on our squad from the get-go, and you will be dearly missed. I send out Oogaa for vengeance and go for Fly, but Leafeon kills Bruxish before i hit the ground and i hit Claydol instead. Leafeon brings Claydol to the red, so i fly once more; the enemy is dead before i can land.

I can't fight on with only 5 squad members, so i'm afraid Gladion and Hau will have to hold our territory while i go train up someone new. I end up going with Hana the Flabebe, who evolves into Floette while i'm training her up. After a while of training though, i call i a day.

My current team:

Hana (Floette) lv 24
Yegh (Jynx) lv 45
Oogaa (Hawlucha) lv 47
Ozosnel (Mudsdale) lv 47
Blargh (Vikavolt) lv 46
99 (Drifblim) lv 46

It really sucks to lose Ingrid in this way. Not only was she my starter, she was also my answer to the totem Kommo-o. She'll definitely leave a gaping hole in my team.

With Hana now on par with the rest of my guys, i head back to the Aether Foundation; fortunately my allies have managed to hold their ground. Wen i arrive, Gladion decides to rush ahead and face Guzma who is apparently here, leaving me to fight through a bunch of Team Skull grunts. Gladion was right; they have allied. Unfortunately, Gladion lost his fight so it was up to me to take down Guzma. He leads with his ace Golisopod, so i send out Oogaa. A flying Z-move made short work of my foe, but next was Vikavolt, and none of my guys really have a good matchup there. I decide to send out Blargh, but he gets taken into the yellow right away. So i switch 99 in on a doubly-resisted Bug Buzz, and i get an Amnesia in to tank Thunderbolt; still does massive damage. I get another Amnesia in and tank the Thunderbolt in the red; one crit here and i'm dead. So i heal up, hit a shadow ball, heal again and land 2 more Shadow Balls for the kill. We're now dealing with Pinsir, which is a job i give to Ozosnel. X-Scissor does not bring me into crit range but Heavy Slam does bring him to the yellow. One turn later, Pinsir is dead. Last up is Masquerain, and i decide to give Hana a chance. She immediately gets taken into crit range though; she tanks another non-crit Air Slash as i heal Blargh up, then i switch to Blargh. Blargh also gets taken to crit range immediately, and actually gets a crit against him. Blargh is out. This is bad. I opt to bring in 99 next and heal up immediately, then i risk a crit to try and get Amnesia up, but i get flinched. From here, i spam healing items for a while, then i try for Amnesia once more and get flinched once more. Rinse repeat; this time i actually get my Amnesia up. This means i won't immediately get hit to crit range after healing and i can actually attack. Fly takes out my foe, granting me a hard-fought victory. Rest in peace Blargh, you will not be forgotten.

We've no time to mourn though; Lillie's still in danger. I rush on into Lusamine's office, where those weird aliens show up again; apparently they're working with Aether. Dulse is intent on stopping me, so i send out Yegh and blast his Poipole apart with a psychic Z-move. They reveal that Lusamine is trying to open a wormhole to fight Necrozma, which is a noble goal but i'm not gonna allow her to mistreat Lillie or Nebby to achieve it. So i charge in to Lillie's rescue; when i get there, she's in a heated argument with Lusamine who's apparently her mom. Lillie apparently stole Nebby from the foundation to keep it safe, but now Lusamine is draining all its energy to try and open a wormhole. Lusamine heads off through some portal, so we follow her into a room full of cryogenically frozen pokemon; this lady is crazy. I also spot the box in which Nebby is being held, but i can't save it yet. Hau and Gladion also come in, and i get to witness a confrontation between Gladion and Lusamine. Apparently he's also her kid, and their dad got lost in an ultra wormhole some time in the past.

Lusamine won't hear our pleas to spare Cosmog, and so she activates a machine to use its power for a wormhole. It works for a second, but the hole disappears before anything can get through. Lusamine then decides she has to try and get rid of us before we interfere, so she challenges me to a fight. I lead with Ozosnel and she with Clefable. Her Hyper Voice does about a quarter to me, and my Heavy Slam OHKOs in return. Lilligant is next, so i switch in Oogaa, who dodges a Stun Spore and kills with a single Acrobatics. Lusamine then sends out her Bewear and i switch to Yegh, who manages to outspeed and OHKO the bear with a psychic Z-move. On to Lopunny; Oogaa comes back and gets burned by a Fire Punch, causing my Flying Press not to kill. I then decide to switch Ozosnel in on what i thought would be a Thunderpunch, but instead i got another Fire Punch. No matter; i tank one more of those and Earthquake kills. Lusamine's now down to just her Milotic, so i decide to bring Yegh back. My moves are doing less than i expected though, and after tanking two Dragon Pulses i opt to bring 99 in. Two charge beams later, Milotic is down.

We won, but it turns out the fight was just a distraction as the machine forced another portal open. Lusamine steps through the portal, and Guzma charges in to follow her, but before we can do so, the portal closes behind them. After we've recovered from the shock, we have a look at Nebby and find it completely motionless, drained of almost all life. We're all expressing our condolences to Lillie when the weird aliens come in and express their disbelief at what Lusamine just did; going after Ultra Necrozma by herself is pretty much suicide. They then tell us of another way to open an Ultra Wormhole in order to save Lusamine; we must travel to Poni Island and open a hole at the altar. This might also save Nebby, though i don't really get how. Rather than head there immediately though, Wicke offers us a room for the night here at the foundation.

The next day, i head out and see that Lillie has changed her outfit for the first time since leaving home. She calls this her Z-powered form; she's so cute. Anyway, Gladion fund a special flute in one of the rooms, which is apparently involved in the ritual on Poni. We'll need a second one though, so we'll have to search for that. Gladion also gives me a Master Ball he found; i'm sure that'll come in handy. Rather than head to Poni right now though, i decide to give Blargh the funerary rites he deserves and then call it a day. I'll decide who replaces him next time.

Time to set sail for Poni Island. As we land at the Seafolk Village, Gladion suggests we go look for the kahuna here. Good idea, so we start asking around about who that is. Turns out the island currently has no kahuna, but Hapu is aspiring to earn that title. Before we go meet Hapu though, i need to train up a new member for my squad. I end up picking Anne the Anorith. Though as i'm talking to people around town looking for good training spots, a girl offers me her Aerodactyl, which i gladly accept and nickname Furuitori. Someone suggests i train by fishing, so i fish up a Wailmer that i nickname Werner, but the mons i net are too weak to train against, so i decide to head out of town to the Poni Wilds to train there. While there, i catch an Inkay and bestow upon it the nickname May.

As i'm training Anne up, she decides to evolve into Armaldo for the glory of the team. Not long after, i decide it's time to call it a day.

Just as i finish up training and start fighting the various trainers in the area, things go horribly wrong. In a double battle, two Mienfoo gang up on Yegh and kill her. Rest in peace Yegh, you did great against Lusamine.

Rather than immediately picking a new squad member from my box, i decide to take a little break and head back to Akala to hang around on the beach. Samson Oak is there, so i take the opportunity to give him some of the totem stickers i've found, and in return he gives me a totem-sized Gumshoos, Marowak and Lurantis, which i name Trump, Karakarahaha and Mushijanai, respectively. Mushijanai is the perfect mon to take the open slot on my team, so it's time to start her training.

After training Mushijanai to an appropriate level and beating up the rest of the trainers in the area, the time has come to call it a day.

My guys have gotten a bit overleveled from all the switch-training i've been doing, but i'm sure that'll correct itself in time.

We press on to Hapu's house, where we run into her and Mudsdale hanging out outside. We tell her of our predicament and how we need the kahuna's help, so she decides we should head to the Tapu's ruins together so that it can judge her worthy or not. After Hapu heads off in that direction, we're approached by her grandma, who tells us that in order to reach the ruins, we'll need a pokemon knowing HM04 Strength. I don't have that HM, but luckily she can add a Machamp to my ride pager that does know it. I don't immediately follow Hapu though; first, i explore the Ancient Poni Path a bit. Good thing i did, otherwise i would have missed the Dawn Stone lying in her back yard. I immediately use it to evolve Hana into her final stage, the beautiful Florges. I also catch a Furfrou i nickname Fifi.

I head on to the Poni Breaker Coast, where i go for a swim. I find a wild Wailmer here in the water, so i decide to catch it and nickname it Pearl. The geysers here are really impressive; i wish i had the time to admire them. Anyway, Hapu has gone ahead and entered the ruins, so me and Lillie go in to follow her. When we find ourselves blocked by a Strength puzzle, Lillie tries to push the blocks herself; she's so cute. I call upon Machamp to do it for us, and we manage to reach Hapu. She did it; she has been chosen. Poni Island has a new kahuna. With the wisdom she gained from the tapu, she tells us that we need to contact a pokemon called Solgaleo in order to save Nebby and reach Lusamine. To summon it, we need the power of two flutes, one of which we have, and the other of which is in a place called Exeggutor Island.

Lillie tells us to contact someone named Mina in the Seafolk Village for passage to the island. Mina isn't actually a seafaring captain so idk why we were told to contact her, but she does know someone who can bring me to the island. Lillie's unfortunately not allowed to come, as she's not a trainer. There are indeed a bunch of really tall Exeggutor here; it's really a sight to see. I even manage to catch one of them and nickname it Nagai. A bunch of them are being harassed by Pinsir though, so i decide to help them out and knock out the Pinsir to restore the peace on the island. Out of gratitude for this, one of the Exeggutor allows me to climb its neck in order to reach the flute i need. Just as i do this, the rain clears up and i see a rainbow in the sky, a really neat sign that things will turn out ok.

With the flutes in hand, Lillie and i prepare to head for the Vast Poni Canyon, but we're blocked off by a bunch of Team Skull grunts. They're worried about Guzma, and want to see if i really have the strength to rescue him and Lusamine. So i beat them up, after which Plumeria shows up and scolds these fools for harassing someone who's looking to save their boss. She gives me the Poisonium Z and wishes us the best of luck. I try pressing on into the canyon itself, but before i can do so the Ultra Recon Squad shows up and also want to test my strength. So i beat up Dulse and his Poipole so we can finally make headway. I think the time has come though to call it a day.

As i progress through the Vast Poni Canyon, my mind is so focused on helping Lillie that i do something massively stupid. I switch Oogaa in in a double battle against an albino Ninetales and Sandslash. They team up on it on the switch and kill it with their ice moves. Apparently fighting does not resist ice. Oogaa cannot take both hits and goes down. Farewell my friend, you were a massive help against all the trials on both Melemele and Akala. You were without a doubt the MVP of the early game, and you didn't deserve this fate.

I proceed out of the caves to the canyon proper, where i catch Erts the Boldore. This seems like a proper place to give Oogaa the funeral he deserves, but after his last rites, it's time to pick someone new to take his place. I end up going for Hikouki the Skarmory, though for now he will be getting switch-training as i progress through the canyon. Halfway through, Lillie and i run into a situation that's oddly reminiscent of how we first met, where Lillie crosses a bridge but is harassed by wild Murkrow. She toughs it out though and runs past them, showing how brave she's gotten in the time that has passed. Unfortunately tough, tragedy followed soon after. Oogaa was not the only brave soldier who fell in this canyon. A Wailord's Heavy Slam got a critical hit on Mushijanai, killing her from near-full health. Farewell queen, you weren't with us for long, but you will be missed.

That means we'll be adopting a second new member onto our team. May the Inkay will now be traveling with us. As i start training her though, i feel a sudden churn in my stomach, as if the world i exist in is being held upside down. May then evolves into Malamar, and that strange feeling goes away. I must be getting tired; i should call it a day.

Really pissed at myself for letting that happen to Oogaa.

Now that my new guys are up to speed, it's time to proceed through the Vast Poni Canyon. While heading through, we come across what looks to be an abandoned trial site. I fight off some wild Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o, but when i walk up to grab the Dragonium Z, i get attacked by the totem Kommo-o. I send out May, who tanks a Dragon Claw with over half her HP left and strikes back with a psychic Z-move that... does less than half. Kommo-o then calls on its ally Scizor, so i have to switch to Ozosnel. Ozosnel gets taken to the yellow upon switch-in, but Stamina did give him 2 Defense boosts, so i just have to dodge crits now. After another hit though, i decide i have to heal. Scizor sets up Light Screen as i'm tanking hits and dealing chip, but i'm a physical attacker so i don't care. I do actually end up tanking a crit from Kommo-o, but i was at good health so it didn't matter. Some healing and Heavy Slams later, Kommo-o goes down and only Scizor is left. One Earthquake takes care of that though, and i'm now free to grab the Dragonium Z for myself.

After that ordeal, me, Lillie and Hapu make our way through and finally reach the Altar of the Sunne. This place is absolutely stunning, with the ancient architecture and the water flows. We came here for a reason though, so me and Lillie take our spots and play the flutes in order to summon the legendary pokemon. The water lights up as we play our tunes, and the central pillar emits a beam of energy towards the center of the altar. Nebby then suddenly gains the energy to jump from Lillie's bag and into the beam, evolving to Solgaleo.

Just at that moment though, an Ultra Wormhole opens up, and Guzma and Lusamine fall through. They tell us to run as Necrozma follows them out. No way i'm abandoning everyone though. Nebby and Necrozma do battle, but Necrozma wins and fuses with Nebby. Guess i have to fight off their combined power now. I send out Hikouki and start spamming Fly, with the occasional Roost in between. This stall strategy isn't really working though; he's burning through my Roosts way too fast. So i decide to switch to Ozosnel, who ends up in the red due to a crit, but he manages to take Necrozma down to half with an Earthquake. I see no choice but to once again heal up to tank the next hit, then i get the kill with Earthquake. It was all for naught though; Necrozma manages to steal the world's light and escape into Ultra Space.

The Ultra Recon Squad then decide to show their faces, and offer me their Lunala so that i can chase down Necrozma and get the world's light back. I don't think my current squad is up for the task though; i feel this is the moment to take Kagamine Rin the Zorua out of the box. May will have to take a break for now. I'll train her up next time though; for now, i'm calling it a day.

Kagamine Rin is up to speed, so it's time to assemble my squad to take on Necrozma. Unfortunately, i'm gonna have to leave behind Hana, Anne and Ozosnel so that i can bring Fatty the Makuhita along for my main strategy, and Erts the Boldore and Rafael the Tirtouga as a contingency plan. So i head back to the Altar of the Sunne, and the Ultra Recon Squad have their Lunala open a wormhole for me. I initially take a wrong turn in Ultra Space, and come face to face with a very confused Drapion. I end up catching the the poor thing and giving it the nickname Joanna.

On my second try though, i manage to find the right place, and two more weird aliens greet me and tell me Necrozma has perched atop the big tower here. They beg me to save it from its madness, so i head up the tower with my squad, but just as i reach the peak, Necrozma transforms into a golden being radiating pure energy. I've no choice but to take it on, so i send out Kagamine Rin disguised as Fatty. Necrozma hits an ineffective Photon Geyser, but then i discover that using a Z-move breaks Zoroark's illusion. This is really really bad. I'm forced to sacrifice Erts to bring Kagamine Rin back in and restore the illusion. Then i discover that he also sees the kill with Smart Strike, which doesn't actually kill but does break the illusion. This is not going to plan. Rafael comes in and tanks a hit due to Sturdy, allowing me to heal Kagamine Rin back up. After Rafael's valiant sacrifice, Kagamine Rin comes back and finishes Necrozma with one last Night Slash.

With Necrozma snapping out of his madness, he releases Nebby and light returns to Hawaii. As thanks, the weird aliens here give me a Poipole, but it's ugly so i release it immediately. The world is saved, Lusamine is safe, Nebby is safe and i now have the means to travel through Ultra Space and finally go home. Buikun has been waiting for me for so long, but while i do long to return to the Resort Area, i do feel like i'd be letting down Ozosnel and the others if i quit this island challenge now. So i resolve to stick around in this version of Hawaii for a bit longer. As i return to the Altar of the Sunne, the Ultra Recon Squad says goodbye and Lusamine apologises for her shitty behaviour. She even gives me some of her custom-made poke balls designed specifically to catch Ultra Beasts, but i don't think i'm heading back into Ultra Space for a while.

As everyone heads off though, i'm approached by Mina, the girl Hapu referred me to for the ride to Exeggutor Island. She tells me she's the final trial captain, and that i should come to her house to continue the challenge. For now though, i'm calling it a day.
