Tips for pokemon battling

Does anyone have good battling tips for a beginner at wifi battling. I have been playing pokemon from sapphire. I still don't understand the battling via wifi. Plus a decent pokemon setup. Thanks.

Yeah, don't make a team of all legends. People who make all legend teams are never taken seriously. They're like the Cartman (from south park) of Online battling.
