In every single generation, there was always a Water-type gym leader - sometimes even two in one region. And B2W2 announced yet ANOTHER Water-type gym leader.

Water is the most abundant on earth, and water-type pokemons are the most diverse. While it may not seem so strange, every single Water-type gym is taking up space for other type gym leaders. Grass and Ground, for example, are equally abundant on land as well, yet there were only three Grass-type leaders and two Ground-type leaders (if Giovanni is counted).

Do you think there are too many Water-type gym leaders?

Nah. Water mons are abundant and there is a lot more variety among water types. Water type gyms are also pretty tough, so thats another plus point.

Water is a pretty abundant type (most common of the types, if I remember correctly), and there is a lot of variety within the type, so it makes sense to have the most common type be one of the most common gym types as well.

Water is the most common type. So it only makes sence that there are more Water Gyms.

Yep. Too many Water types and Water Gym Leaders.
And not even one Dark Gym Leader...

I think there should be a break from Water type gym leaders.

While the type is the most abundant, I feel as if they should focus less on the type and more on others. One of the things I liked about Gen V was that it didn't introduce a bunch of Water types like other generations did. There's so many options out there already for Water types that a lot of them start to feel a bit useless or redundant.

I think in a similar vein to Homika, underused types should get some focus and recognition. Poison, Dark, etc could do with some spotlight.

I'm amazed Dark still doesn't have a Gym Leader. XD

BW was kinda nice, I guess, in regard to the sheer abundance of Water-type Gym Leaders. Closest one to a Water-type specialist there was Cress, and he only had a Panpour and a not-Water-type Lillipup.

There will always be Water-type gyms in every gen, though I do wish we had another female Water-type gym leader.

There have been a fair few.

Misty
Wallace
Juan
Crasher Wake
Cress
Shizui

But it's important to note that Juan replaced Wallace and Shizui replaced Cress, and that cress was only 1/3 of the gym leader etc.

Of the 5 regions, 4 of them have a Water type Gym, only Johto doesn't.

There sure are a lot of them, but I can't say that there's too many of them. There does need to be another female Water Type Gym Leader though.

Too bad aside from an anime appearance, Homika doesn't seem like she'll be that big a deal in-game, whereas the Pokémon website has suggested Shizui would be giving the player character advice throughout the game (translation here), and is apparently given a Kyushu accent giving him a more interesting background (my current theory is that he's a Pacifidlog native). Even his select quotes sound more interesting.

There's still possibly a gym in Hiougi city though, so maybe we'll finally get a Dark gym, and given its placement, a fairly important leader as well.

I find it odd they never created another FEMALE Gym leader. Why is it all the water users after Misty have been male?

I would have liked to see a different, better take on a female Gym leader. I could have seen them go with a heavy Asian female look for a new female water user in contrast to Misty's orange-hair. Plus I would love to see a new water female Gym leader just for the sake of seeing how the Misty fandom would react. :)

I honestly think at this point, you're the only one who seems to care @Gliscor'd;

I didn't even notice the gender imbalance until I decided to take a count at where we were with water gym leaders. Shizui's also the second water-leader who looks like he goes swimming since Misty, but nobody really seems to make note of that.

No I've seen it brought up on other forums like serebii. All the new water Gym leaders have been male for some reason, as if the writers don't want to make another female one. I've seen Misty fans speculate that GameFreak doesn't want to "replace" Misty in this sense, which makes no sense to me whatsoever, since we've had the same gender leaders like both Winona and Skyla for flying.

As I said, the possibilities for another female water Gym leader are endless. Do a more traditional Japanese take on one with kimonos and hot springs, or something along those lines.

Lol Gliscor'd's rabid hate of Misty continues. Is there nothing better to fill your time than finding threads on which to attack Misty? It's not really the topic at hand.

If true, this would definitely strengthen the call for RSEmakes, just like Jasmine popped up in Sinnoh to invite us all to Johto. Shizui could be from Hoenn and invite us all over there.

Out of seventeen types of Pokemon, you're bound to get a lot of repeat gym types over the course of so many games. Water being one of the most abundant types of Pokemon and having so much variety, you're bound go see a lot of them. We still haven't seen a dark type gym leader though, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe we'll see one in Black2/White2.

Also, when did we see two water type gym leaders in the same region?

Yeah, another female Water Type Leader would be cool.

I think seeing a younger take on Lorelei would be good for a new water user. I know she focused on ice but most of her Pokemon were water oriented.

Cynthia, Looker, and Caitlin all appeared, and references to Darach being in Unova were made. If that was the basis of your argument, it looks more like we're being invited back to Sinnoh.

If Cress is still around, then Unova would be the first one since technically, Wallace and Juan were never gym leaders at the same time. If we were to go by that logic, then Unova has two Dragon gym leaders (Iris and Drayden) even though only one is active in each game. I mean, if we were counting past leaders who no longer hold an active position, that would mean GSC/HgSs technically had two poison leaders.

Combine that with all the other hints about RSE.
