Title says it all; no recent threads of this topic have been found!

Who do you think are the smartest villains?

I'd have made this both villains and heroes, but villains are supposed to be smarter, yeah?

Also note that antiheroes also count as villains.

1. Emperor Palpatine (Star Wars): he played an entire galaxy like fools.

2. David Xanatos (Gargoyles): there's a reason why the TV tropes page for incredibly deep and multi-faceted plans is named after him.

those are the two that come up the quickest. More to come when I think about it for a minute.

Light Yagami. Nuff said.
Oooor if you're convinced he's a good guy for some reason: L. And Near.

i agree with this, light is like a genius at serial killing there are so many puzzles and stuff, though I can keep up with some if i catch all the details, still he's very smart.

1. Eggman (he's a freakin' scientist)
2. Scar (he had the brains AND guts to kill his own brother)
3. Kurata (he's mostly psycho, though, trying to kill all the Digimon)
4. Bowser (he's persistent for a villain who does the same thing many times)
5. Darkrai (he tried to stop time and space)

1.Light, the guy is.... too smart .__.
2.Bowser, well unless he thinks of a different way to kidnap Peach lol
3.Yami Bakura
4.Scar, epic... nuf said
5.Little Slugger (Paranoia Agenremt)

1) Emperor Palpatine. Everything that happened in the galaxy went according to plan. The second war wasn't intended but he still took advantage of it (to turn Luke into a sith, destroy all opposition, and kill the remaining jedi). Genius-level intellgence + superpowers = unbeatable. And he was an old man too. How sharp would he have been when he was younger?

2) Light Yagami. He outsmarted everyone, including L and even a shinigami. I hate him (even before he had L killed), but it can't be denied.

3) Grand Admiral Thrawn. Using a small fleet, he managed to trick everyone in the Galactic Republic (the one that the rebels formed after overthrowing the Empire), stole the majority of the Katana fleet, and nearly conquered the galaxy while facing vastly superior numbers. He would have won if it weren't for being assassinated by his own bodyguard.

4) David Xanatos. Hmm, haven't watched his show, but from Wikipedia, it's pretty clear he had incredible intelligence.

5) Dark Bakura. His plan would've worked too, if it weren't for Atem being smarter and using the invincible power of friendship and teamwork.

1. Totally, Light Yagami.
2. Lelouch Lamperouge. He's got the guts.

What, no Lex Luthor? The guy went so far to become PRESIDENT, pretty much on his own merits, and continues to fight Superman. Genius for time management ALONE.

1. Davros (Doctor Who): Over the years he has: Created a race of cyborgs (Daleks) that have thus far been impossible to defeat; controlled a cemetery planet's economy by supplying the planet's only food source - the bodies buried on the planet processed into food - while using other bodies to create a new race of Daleks; and managed to escape a time-locked war to steal 27 planets from various parts in the universe and use their orbital movements to create a burst of energy that would unravel every atom of every single reality in existence, sparing only himself and the Daleks. And that's just what he did in 3 televised stories.

2. Sylar (Heroes).
3. The Patriots (Metal Gear).
4. Kane (Command and Conquer).
5. Sue Sylvester (Glee) - because if I didn't put her name on this list she'd come to life and kill me.

In no particular order:

1) Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts 2. Dunno why, I just... Feel like that.

2) Sabrina (in the Pokémon special manga). She created an illusion that she knew would scare Blue (or Green for you official translation freaks) or at least surprise her. But she fell like every other Rocket in the end.

3) Darkrai in PMD2. He actually brought a Rhyperior so that room-affecting Electric attacks wouldn't work. (*nerd rage*)

4) *PMD2 MAJOR SPOILERS DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT 'EM.* Dusknoir in PMD2. Even I didn't notice he was a bad guy!

5) Outta ideas.

What about M.O.D.O.K? He can control people's minds and make force fields!

I prefer Marvel's answer to Lex Luthor: Norman Osborn. Manipulated the events of an alien invasion into making him appear to be the greatest hero on Earth, even though everyone knew him to be the Green Goblin. Now he gets to be in charge of America's super-humans, target known heroes (Captain America, Spider-Man, and many others), manipulate OTHER major villains into doing what he wants, and create a group of psychopaths and assassins who the world looks to as heroes.

But, for my top 5:

1. Dr. Doom. He's taken powers from god-like beings, invaded countries, generally flaunted his powers, and still rules an entire nation.

2. Norman Osborn. For the above. Only topped by Dr. Doom because Doom used his intelligence to escape Hell itself.

3. Loki. Very cunning and intelligent. Only screwed by his own ambition.

4. Red Skull. Always finds a way to survive. And knows how to manipulate people. Plus, he's focused. He knows what he wants and he doesn't compromise.

5. Mr. Sinister. Between the cloning and manipulating and seeming immortality, he still managed to setup a fail-safe to ensure he'd survive IF he ever died. He'd be higher on my list if his schemes were only a bit grander.

Thought of some more (since I only mentioned one before)

1. I already said that. Light Yagami.

2. Raksha from Soul Nomad. Why? Saying that would spoil one of the biggest twists in the game.

3. Severus Snape. No wait he's a good guy...or maybe he's bad, nope, definitely a good guy...Or is he? Well he certainly can't be stupid to be able to confuse everyone like that.

4. Artemis Fowl. In the first book anyway. In the others.... Young Artemis Fowl.

lets cut through this anime crap, and get to the real villians.
yes, i said it.

1) Ozymandias. Not the one from the movie. the one smart enough to know when to jump ship, and how to reverse the world.
and did it. and escaped blame.

2) Doctor Doom. once again, not the movie one.

3) Lex Luthor. read red son. he's brilliant.

4)ME! MUWAHHHHHH

thats my top three. i can't think of any other that are on the scale of brilliance of those three.

oh, and i would say Magneto is a brilliant man also. but i wouldnt really put him as a villian.
noble causes and such.
