So Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green released on the Nintendo Switch for the 30th anniversary of the franchise. So, why not play it on my Switch 2?

I got the game preordered as soon as I could, it just released today, and now I made the decision to make a little blog about it! I'll go over my adventure and log stuff down as I go. Hopefully it'll keep you folks entertained.

Without further ado, lets-a go! This is the story of Toron's adventure through the GBA's take on the Kanto Region!

I got the game preordered as soon as I could, it just released today, and now I made the decision to make a little blog about it! I'll go over my adventure and log stuff down as I go. Hopefully it'll keep you folks entertained.

Without further ado, lets-a go! This is the story of Toron's adventure through the GBA's take on the Kanto Region!

Will be watching this with great interest, as I am on the fence about getting the games, mainly because there is no physical cartridge, even a Switch cartridge.

I've done this song and dance before... Out of the blue, I get sucked up from wherever I was before and wind up in a different world. This time it seems to be... Kanto. Again. Not my first time being here. I've journeyed this region a few times before. Once with my Eevee named Mystic where I apparently went by Elaine. And the other was when I viewed it in strange shades of grey and green. This time it looks more colorful than that 2nd journey.

It went like I expected. I met Oak after trying to explore on my own, meet with my apparent rival Ness, and get the chance to choose my first Pokémon. I chose Bulbasaur this time. Not the first time I've used a Bulbasaur for my team, but the first time I'll use it for Kanto. It seemed to have a bit of a prideful and kinda rash demeanor to it. I gave it the name of Raditz.

From there, it went like previous adventures. I beat Ness's Charmander, went to Viridian to get Oak's parcel, and receive a Pokédex. Now I can start grabbing Pokémon. So on Route 22, I catch a Mankey and a Spearow. The Spearow will be most important for now. After some more training, I take down Ness's Pidgey and Charmander.

Into Viridian Forest, I go ahead and catch a Caterpie, one to train up much like Spearow. Those two won't be on my team for a while but they'll be handy for the meantime. After more training to evolve it into a Metapod and eventually a Butterfree, and getting levels on Raditz and Spearow, I go to take on Brock.

I always liked Brock. He's determined, he's strong, he's sure of himself, but one thing's for sure, he's a little bit of a pushover when you have a Grass Pokémon. I didn't even need Vine Whip to bring down Geodude. Butterfree's confusion did that. His Onix though? One Vine Whip brought it down easily. The Boulder Badge is mine.

Onto Route 3, I raced for the grass thanks to my new Running Shoes and grabbed a Nidoran. A male one, specifically. This one looked a little relaxed and lazy, so I nicknamed him Wario. I trained him up more thanks to the nearby trainers before heading to Mount Moon.

Mt. Moon was where I heard about Team Rocket. Ugh... I hate this guys. There's many people in the world with the goal of being the best trainer, but stealing Pokémon to do it? That makes you the best of the worst That makes you trash. And I don't waste time with trash. Still, those Rockets wanted some fights, and I gave it to em. Thanks to that and a few other trainers and wild Pokémon, Wario evolved into Nidorino and Raditz evolved into Ivysaur. I think that was enough to set up camp and rest for the day.

A strong start to the journey, but we still got a way to go...

I woke up and got back on the road. After some more exploring on Mt. Moon, I grabbed a few TMs like Bullet Seed and Thief. I also grabbed a few Moon Stones, used one on Wario to get him to his Nidoking form. From there, we kept going, taking out Rocket scum and even getting a Dome Fossil thanks to a Nerd willing to share. I always preferred Dome anyway.

Finally out to Mt. Moon for fresh air, we kept training before finally reaching Cerulean. Before we can pay Bill a visit, we had to battle Ness's team. His Charmander knew Ember now, and he did have an Abra and Rattata alongside a powerful Pidgeotto, but with Wario's new strength, he was kind of a pushover. We took down the Nugget bridge afterwards, even got our hands on a new team member, an Abra. I gave her the name Sage due to her more somber and blunt tones. We did more training with the nearby trainers to evolve her into Kadabra. Once we hit the Sea Cottage, we lent Bill a hand and got him to human form again, even getting an SS ticket for our troubles. If that country boy Bill feels like he doesn't fit in fancy places, I suppose going in his stead is the least I could do.

We discovered a house in Cerulean got robbed and stopped the grunt that stole the Dig TM. Turns out, the owner didn't mind me having it, so I used it on Wario to give him a solid Ground move. On Route 5, we nabbed a Meowth fill our roster for now. I named him Wesker since he seemed fast and cunning, like a genius with some god complex. We put him in the Daycare before entering the Underground path to visit Route 6 and train more. It did take a lot of back tracks to Cerulean to heal up and get items before we could finally reach Vermillion.

Vermillion was a nice place, but I can't reach the gym yet. We got the VS Seeker, grabbed a Bike Voucher, battled the trainers on Route 11 for more experience and money, and even got Spearow to evolve, I figured he deserved a name now since I grew fond of him. I'll call him Magica. Butterfree was also given the name Killer Moth for now. It'll be a while before those names stick, but the battles against the trainers and wild Pokémon got us plenty of money and experience. However, when we visited Diglett's cave, we hit the jackpot. A Dugtrio. A really strong one. Took a little work with Magica and Killer Moth to weaken it and get it to sleep but we got it to stay in a Great Ball. I named the fella Satan. Kinda hurt to put Killer Moth in the box after that, but it was hard to turn down the strength of a Dugtrio.

After getting Wesker back, he was notably stronger thanks to the Daycare man. Huh. Didn't know that could happen. Whatever the case, it was time to put that SS Ticket to good use. We took a trip on the SS Anne, grabbed a couple TMs, had a run in with Ness that I won, and then I helped the captain with his seasickness. A little massage cured him good. As thanks, he gave me the Cut HM. Once I got it, I figured it was time to take on Misty at last, but not before seeing the SS Anne take off.

Misty. That Tomboyish Mermaid was always a sight. But this time around, she was a pushover. My policy on Pokémon is to win using all my experience and knowledge, and that's exactly what I did against her. Heh. Magica and Raditz handled her pretty well. The Cascade Badge is mine.

Wesker could use Cut and I eventually went to a house on Route 2 to teach him Flash. That helped me get through Rock Tunnel. I always hated that place... Long, winding, dark, full of aggressive wild Pokémon and trainers, but I managed just fine and came out the other side in Lavender Town.

I headed west to Route 8 to catch a Growlithe to put on the team in Satan's place and then I went to Celadon and nabbed an Eevee that I named Chelsea. Sage got put in the box. Both of those fellas did well for me, but they're not what my team needs in the moment. I evolved Chelsea into a Vaporeon before stopping by Saffron with some tea. I would've plowed through the Fighting Dojo, but the trainers there are stronger than I thought. When I got a moment, I made a break for it to regroup at the Pokémon Center. That's where I called it for the day.

We got back to work on that Fighting Dojo. It was way tougher than I thought, but with the team's combined efforts, we won out. I got the choice of Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan. No Top on offer sadly, but that's fine. I chose Hitmonchan. I need the fella Popinski and I had to put Magica in the box. She'll be handy later, but for now I had to train up that Growlithe. I gave him the name of Dogpound, by the way. The progress was slow but steady. We even got the Fly HM from a little house above the cycling road. That was enough of a sign to let me know we were ready. We went back to Vermillion for Surge.

Lt. Surge was a pushover. Even his little trash can puzzle was a joke. The Thunder Badge was easily mine for the taking. With his badge, my Pokémon's speed went up, and I could use Fly now. Magica got put on the team again so she could fly us around and Chelsea got put in the daycare for a while. In the meantime, we had some business to tend to in Celadon...

Took down all kinds of Rocket scum in their little hideout in Celadon, even met Giovanni. After a battle with him, I got the Silph Scope. That baby can see Ghost Pokémon, right? With that kind of power, I headed for the Pokémon Tower, getting into a little fight with ness again. He was easy pickings, as were the Channelers, the ghost Marowak, and the Rocket Grunts. Mr. Fuji gave me the Poké Flute, which I used to wake up and catch the Snorlax twins blocking parts of the region.

With the Snorlax gone, I could travel to Fuchsia City by pedaling down cycling road. Once Dogpound learned Flame Wheel, I used my Fire Stone to evolve him, making him an Arcanine! I didn't come to Fuchsia to play a game in the Safari Zone, I came for the Golden Teeth of the Warden and the Surf HM. Got 'em both on my first run in the zone. A lot of work to be done. I can't reach the Kanto Power Plant without Koga's badge. Chelsea hasn't gotten strong enough in the daycare yet. I suppose she'll need more time. But for now, I called it a day.

I made the decision to fight Koga today. I was surprised to find Psychic Pokémon in his Poison type gym, but they weren't that big of a problem for me. Koga himself put up a good fight though, but he fell just like his followers. I owe Wario a lot for helping me out there. His typing really helped me. With the Soul Badge, I could use Surf to traverse water. I also gave the warden his golden teeth back and he gave me strength in return. With that, I could go for my main target...

Wario was able to surf me on Route 10 to the Kanto Power Plant. All the Electrodes blew up in our faces, but we did find some Electabuzz twins. Caught 'em both. However, my main target was Zapdos. It took a little time. Wesker's Flash, Dogpound's Intimidate, and Raditz's Sleep Powder made the process easier. Almost ran out of Ultra Balls but I got her. I named our electric bird pal Surge.

I flew back to the daycare to pick up Chelsea. She grew a few levels during her little playtime, she even learned Bite. I had Wario forget Surf and learn Brick Break while Chelsea learned Surf instead. I looked at the Electabuzz twins and took the female one. I named that one Tron Bonne. She'll do great for the team. Magica and Popinski served me well, but my team really needs the boost in power.

We needed more training, so we battled the loooooooong trainer filled road of Routes 12, 13, 14, and 15. Note to self: Never do that trek in one go. We also took a visit to Cinnabar island to put my Dome Fossil under study. But once it was all done, we were ready to face Erika.

Needless to say, Erika was a pushover. I even decided to challenge myself by using Chelsea. However, that challenge went away when she learned Aurora Beam. The Rainbow Badge is mine.

I'm thinking whether I should keep training, possibly view the Pokémon Mansion before I inspect Silph Co, but I wanted to call it a day for now. However, I got word of a few old friends. Some buddies of mine, James and Al, were also on their own Kanto journeys. They weren't too far behind me, but I won't let them get ahead. Still, having true rivals like them always helped me stay motivated.

I had a look at my team and realized that this would be it. This crew would be my final one.

The journey continued. I decided to go through with more training. I went South of Pallet Town to fight the trainers north of Cinnabar and then handled the trainers surrounding the Seafoam islands. After that, I entered the cavern itself. I kinda hated the little puzzle of pushing rocks to change the currents, but I did it to encounter and catch Articuno. After that, I took a look at the Pokémon mansion to get the gym key. The mansion always looked so decrepit and ominous yet so... appealing. I wonder how it looked when it was still used.

Once I got the gym key, I took on the Cinnabar Gym. Thanks to the power of Chelsea's Surf, it was pretty much a pushover. Blaine was similarly easily, but I was nice enough to let other team members like Tron Bonne, Wario, and Dogpound get their hands dirty too. The Volcano Badge is mine.

Afterwards, Bill met with me and took me to the Sevii Islands to meet his friend. However, I got word that a girl named Lostelle was missing. After a little exploring around the islands in search of her, I went to Three Islands, handled a few bikers, and finally found her in Berry Forest. I caught the Hypno that attacked as well.

Once I got back to the mainland, I knew my team needed a boost in power. It sure was a good thing I got a lot of money thanks to the Amulet Coin. With my money, I bought enough coins at the Game Corner to buy some items. Raditz got a Miracle Seed, Dogpound got Flamethrower from a TM, and Chelsea got Ice Beam from a TM. This new firepower helped us tackle Silph Co.

I always hated Silph Co. How the heck do people get work done in there with all the teleporters taking you up god knows how many floors at a time? It was a total maze filled with Team Rocket trash. But there was some good in taking out those scum. Wario finally got to learn Megahorn.

Before I could challenge Giovanni, Ness stopped me for a battle. I wish he could see that our rivalry meant nothing at that time and hoped he would help me fight Giovanni, but he didn't. I still mopped the floor with him though. Earned a Lapras from an employee too. Then I challenged Giovanni himself, winning pretty handily. The president gave me a Master Ball for the trouble and the secretary told me that Silph Co are in debt to me. They sure are after I pretty much single handily saved them all.

After that, I called it a day there. Sabrina is our next gym to battle against. While we're more than ready for her, I can see the end of this Kanto adventure looming. I'm not ready for the elite 4 yet, but with only two badges left to claim, I'm certain we'll be ready when the time is right.

Not a lot happened this day. We started with taking on the Saffron Gym. I've always had a fondness for Sabrina and her psychic powers. She's a pretty young lady, but her prowess on psychic Pokémon is no joke. Even still, she was not a difficult opponent for me. The Marsh Badge was mine.

We flew back to Viridian to take on the gym there. The trainers had many more Pokémon than I expected, but their numbers didn't compare to the strength of my Pokémon. And my reward for beating them? One last battle with Giovanni. He wasn't holding back, but I could still beat him well. The Earth Badge is all mine, and I have the right to enter the Pokémon League.

I had another battle with Ness outside of the Pokémon League. He was strong. A little stronger than me I'd say, but my team wouldn't be beaten by him that easily. I took him down with some clever tactics in mind.

After showing my badges to the guards, I called it a day there. We're gonna need a lot of training in Victory Road before we face the Elite 4.

We finally made it through Victory Road, however my team isn't ready for the elite 4. We began our training around the region, earning more experience and money. This'll take a while...

Our training continued around Kanto, rematching trainers, earning money, and even working on our Pokédex by catching and evolving some Pokémon I've caught on the journey. The team now sits at level 52-53. I feel we might be ready for the Pokémon League. I'll call it a day for now.

I decided to take some time to work on the Pokédex. Good thing I caught a Marowak with False Swipe. I should maybe come up with a name for that one. While I was at it, I also decided to buy a few more items for my team. A Charcoal for Dogpound, a Mystic Water for Chelsea, and a Thunderbolt TM for Surge. Honestly, I'm kinda letting my buds James and Al play a little catch up. However, I'm not gonna let them pass me. I'm gonna be champion first.

Took me a long time to catch a Dratini, Scyther, and Kangaskhan in the Safari Zone... Note to self: Don't bother with that place again...

I realized that I forgot something in the Sevii Islands and went out to see it. I used that Rock Smash HM I got a while back on that Marowak I obtained in Victory Road to help me break the rocks in my way.

Turns out, I didn't fully explore Mt. Ember on my first visit to the islands. Took some Rock Smashing and some boulder pushing but I found what I missed. Moltres. Good thing I taught Marowak Rock Tomb to help weaken the bird. Took a lot of Ultra Balls but I caught the legendary. All 3 Legendary Birds are mine.

However, with a little more training, my whole team reached level 53. I figured that we were ready now. Tomorrow, we take on the Pokémon League.

Today was the day. We challenged the Elite 4.

Lorelei was up first. A beautiful woman, but they say a pretty face hides an evil mind. I know Lorelei isn't evil, and in another world, she helped me out of a Team Rocket ambush, however, we were enemies today. Tron Bonne almost swept her cleanly, but our win was pretty easy. 1 down.

Bruno was up next. That man is powerful, but honestly not the strongest fighting expert in my opinion. Wario led us off against his Onix, using Earthquake to win against them. Raditz handled Hitmonchan, and Surge took down Hitmonlee and Machamp. 2 down.

Agatha was always like a mean old witch to me. She wasn't difficult, but more annoying. She landed way too many Hypnosis, but thanks to Dogpound's Aerial Ace and Chelsea's Bite and Surf, she wasn't too bad. 3 down.

Lance was last up. He talked a big game about dragon Pokémon, but he's a dragon trainer that uses more flying types. Heh. Some dragon trainer he is. However, he was good. I had to really use my team well to beat him, but he fell.

But of course, there was one final challenge. Ness beat me to the Champion position. It was time for me to overthrow him!

Pidgeot vs Zapdos! My Thunderbolt forced him to go into Rhydon, which made me use Venusaur's Razor Leaf. Alakazam gave us trouble, even brought down Wario, but Tron Bonne and Dogpound worked together to take him down. Gyarados sadly took down Tron and he healed just before Dogpound's Extreme Speed could finish him!

Chelsea swapped in and took a critical Thrash, but with him locked into that, I could heal Chelsea and set up Acid Armor to help withstand hits. His Dragon Rage couldn't outdamage my Ice Beam. Next comes Executor, which was down from a single Flamethrower from Dogpound. Pidgeot came in weak, but he healed before Extreme Speed could land. We lost Dogpound to a pair of Aerial Aces, but not before Flamethrower did large damage. Surge came right back in to finish what she started, but he healed again before Drill Peck could deal damage. Luckily, he couldn't heal from the following Thunderbolt.

Finally, his Charizard. Surge instantly used Thunder Wave to paralyze it, but Fire Blast did large damage. Thunderbolt landed, but didn't ko. I try a Drill Peck and... A critical hit... It was over. Kanto's got a new champion. And that champion was me.

Ness got a little talking to from Oak before the old man could walk me to the Hall of Fame. I rest my Pokéballs in the machine... and the team is recognized.

Raditz, Surge, Wario, Dogpound, Chelsea, Tron Bonne... Thank you. I dunno what else is gonna be in store for us or how long I'm gonna be in Kanto, but I won't forget you guys for as long as I live. Our journey's just beginning. For now, let's get home...

Turns out, there's more to the Kanto region than I thought. The Sevii Islands await us. We got an upgrade to our Tri-pass, which became the Rainbow pass. We also got the National Pokédex from Professor Oak.

I made a trek to the Sevii Islands and got word from Celio that his machine needs some gems. Turns out there's more team rocket trash here on the Sevii Islands, but I handled some grunts that opened the way to the Ruby. I gave Celio the Ruby from Mt. Ember, but some more Rocket scum took the Sapphire he needed. I helped Lorelei on Four Island handle some grunts, who thankfully dropped some information on their hideout.

The Rocket Warehouse on 5 island annoyed me. So much spinning... but I put a stop to the admins and the scientist, got the Sapphire, and brought it to Celio so he could finish his machine. With that done, I was able to visit Cerulean Cave.

I needed a little help in the cave, so I had Marowak use Rock Smash to clear the way before I finally found Mewtwo. Took a long struggle, but I finally caught 'em. I gave him the name of Brainiac. Tron Bonne's done enough for the team and deserves a long rest. We still have more training and catching to do on the islands, but I'll call it a day here. Things are just heating up...

I found a few strange tickets in my bag after I became champion. I dunno how they got there but I figured I could use them. When I showed them to a sailor in Vermillion, they allowed me to head to two places, Navel Rock and Birth Island.

I went to Navel Rock first. An odd place. Never knew it existed in Kanto. It had two paths. When I went left, I was taken upwards to the outside and I found... Ho-Oh! A Legendary Pokémon here? Makes sense. But it wanted to battle me. Naturally, it took a lot of struggling but I won... and now I have the bird caught.

I went down the other pathway, having a hunch on what else would lurk here. I found out that Lugia also roosted here. Caught that one too.

What else are on these islands? I'll have to explore more...
