Toys R Us to give away Dragonite: Level 50 allows entry into official tournaments

From noon-4 p.m. Nov. 8-9, Toys R Us stores in the United States and Puerto Rico will give out level 50 Dragonite, even though Dragonair doesn't evolve until level 55.

Nice opportunity to see if Platinum works with the event or not for me. I keep wondering that..

Level 50, exactly?

Well that's silly. If the point is to enter a level 50 Pokémon into a battle that is capped at level 50 (and for some reason won't adjust the level down), and the Dragonite they are giving away is at that very same level, how does one train it?

Silly giveaway is silly.

FINALLY! I like non-legendary Pokemon Events Hope that the Dragonite has Draco Meteor :D

My guess is that it'll probably be like the Saikyou Dragonite that was given away in Japan.

That is quite interesting. Does anyone here plan on going to the event?

You can always EV-train on extremely low-level pokemon. As long as you don't gain enough experience to push it to level 51, you'll be fine.

Granted, it is a bit trivial, but this event would be the only Dragonite allowed in an official tournament, seeing how anything above and beyond level 50 is not allowed.

Yay! They're giving away another event Pokemon!

I am SO going to this event. XD

Also, this will be the second event Dragonite that I've received. My first event Dragonite, was the one from Journey Across America. =D

Oh, I'll definitely be going to this event.

In fact, I always go to every Pokemon event (just so long as it isn't in NY, lol). XD

Most pokemon events in the US only work with US copies of DP. Pokemon.com has not even announced platinum (but you can always trade).

Actually EV's don't take affect until a Pokemon levels up. Although I think this isn't true for vitimins so you may be able to create a bulky DDance sweeper with 100/100/100/0/100/100 ev spread. Kinda sucky but it might be useful in tourniments :/

No, 'tis the same with Vitamins as with EVs gained from battling: they don't do squat until you level up.

I say this takes the cake for the most useless promo giveaway ever. Cheers, Nintendo. :D

Oh well, it's an event, so I'm going to get it.

Correction: The stat boosting effects of EVs also work if you save and reset your game, or if you deposit (and withdraw) your Pokemon from the PC. These two actions force a stat recalculation. I tried it on my Electivire, and it most definately works. I got a 30+ boost on my level fifty-something in attack after EV training and depositing it in the PC.

So kiddies, its not totally useless, it just stops being special after level 55, but ultimately loses its purpose at level 51.

EDIT: Damn you Tina!!!!
(for getting to it first)

I thought that trick stopped working by Emerald. =/
