TPCi Silently Introduces "Pokémon the Series: Black & White"

First it was "Pokémon the Series: XY", then it was "Pokémon the Series: Ruby & Sapphire", and now it's "Pokémon the Series: Black & White".

Yesterday, Bulbagarden tweeted a picture of the Pokémon media that was being shown on Netflix Australia (which is shown below):



I immediately noticed the shot being used to display Season 14 looked a little different. A quick Google search lead me to this:



It appears this new title for the BW series has been silently announced. For now, this title can only be seen on Netflix Australia but we may see it spring up in other areas going forward.

As with Hoenn, the intros aren't changed - so it's only the poster frame that's actually different. I can't see there ever being the demand for a box set re-release of BW, so this is probably about the only place we will see it.

Presumably the Kanto/Orange/Johto arc will either never get a name like this, or it will just be 'Pokemon the Series' with no qualifier. I can't see them calling it 'Red and Blue/Green' or 'Gold and Silver'.

Not that it's interesting in the slightest, but television broadcasts of the English dub in some countries used to have some minor differences in how the episodes are presented (they seem to be all gone with XY) - they shift the Who's that Pokemon answer to just before the ending credits and they for some reason have a slightly different font and cover over the 'To Be Continued' text to write 'To Be Continued' in a slightly different font. The Netflix version has that order, but also has slightly different text again - left to right the screenshots are CITV UK, the Cartoon Network US and Netflix Aus.

Hopefully that was automatic and no one actually spent time making slightly different title cards for all the BW episodes.

Concerning the altered text, I wonder if there is come guideline that requires all on-screen text to be a certain size and the size used in the North American package didn't meet those standards. I don't think it's an issue of TPCi not sending over the text packages since the "To Be Continued..." is apart of the master copy and when being re-written, a black bar is overlapping the original text. There's some important reasoning behind this change, though I doubt we'll ever truly known for certain for what reasons.

The reasoning is mostly SDI Media shenanigans. They distribute the anime series across the globe, so they have their own font for the intro theme credits, the episode titles, the ending credits, and a black bar over the "To Be Continued". They use all of these stuff in their own English distribution along their respective translations for different languages (...or not, as in Latin America we still have the SDI English font with voice-overs translating to Spanish, because we're still too underdeveloped, filthy third-world countries to get any visual tanslation for our dubs).


This means that TPCi likely hands them over a textless version of what they have: the opening theme, the title card and the ending credits (that'd just be a black screen anyway), explaining why the "To Be Continued" gets a different treatment. In any case, this has been happening for quite a while, actually. ...I don't really know how Netflix works, but I think they're probably just doing the same thing on their own, so they could release the episodes in different languages as well.

I don't like this. I understand why they are presumably doing it, which is to make sure kids know which series goes with which games.. but I wish they did this years ago if they were going to implement it now.

If I were a [stupid] kid then I could see myself getting all the seasons confused with how many there is.

But.. will it be something like: "Pokemon the series: Black & White - Rival Destinies" or are the titles just being totally thrown out the window? Which is what I'm fearful of and not liking.

For what i know, yes the Sdi media receive the textless element (in the master of the episode after the ending). And they do the credits and edits for the european version.

It's in bad quality, because is ripped from episode available on the official website of Pokémon
Sometimes they forgot to cut the textless element after the ending credits. Not all things at the world are photoshopped or fake only because the bitrate it's low ^_^

Well surely you could link us to said online episodes to prove this claim. Because you can only assume authenticity when there is proof to back it up.
