Tracey's New Voice

*sulks* I can't believe how horrible it sounds. I just want to die!

Tracey!! Why???

::Cries:: He sounds like he JUST hit puberty.. Omfg.

;-; Our precious Tracey...

*Listens to first line*

Well, at least not enough emotion won't be an issue here. :p

I'm having a weird situation here that I have never had before. I can't tell that much of a difference. I'm not sure whether it's because I hadn't heard his voice in a while but I'm not sure.

He sounds extremely close to the original to me except a little more energetic. Well more emotional. There might be difference but I'm not going to analyse it to that extent since it's a different person and I know there'll be difference. Though I find it weird that I can't tell the difference. I thought at first when watching it it was the original that's how much I couldn't tell the difference. I had to remind myself that his voice was replaced.

Oh well if I can't tell the difference it's a good thing. I like how it's acted and I think whoever is doing Tracy's voice did it great. I guess I don't need to get use to the guy that means since I'm already use to him on first viewing. Now I want Tracy back on the series again.=P

Good luck to those not use to him. I already am use to him on first viewing.o_O

I always thought his original voice was very soft and lively. This voice just sounds scratchy and deep. And as Mistress Puff said, like he just hit puberty.

Still, the quality of most of the stuff on the Learning League is terrible. And even I'm willing to admit some of the VAs aren't as bad as they sound on this site. I think they are incredibly rushed when it comes to this, so I'm crossing my fingers Tracey will sound better in his upcoming appearance!

Yeah the original probably is more soft (though I haven't watched orange islands in a while) but as I said it's very weird for me to have this reaction. I have never gotten use to a new voice on first hearing and not been able to tell the difference. I have watched many cartoons with voice changes before Pokemon and have never had this experience. usually it takes me a while.

Well I'll just listen to it again.

On second hearing I do see the tiny difference you guys are saying (when I concentrate) but it doesn't really flinch me at all. I like it alot for some reason and doesn't seem different enough for me to hate it. I love the emotion in it and as said I'm use to it first shot.=)

I'm with you for him to sound good in the episode. I hope for is for him to not go down hill from this point and show a good performance. Hopefully he's okay by the episode.

It's not as if he does much. Just referees Ash and Gary's battle and then looks embarrassed.

Why does Tracey need a PokéPilot? Especially for this one, since Professor Oak should know how to do it.

For interest, here's the weights compared to what the Pokédex says the average weight is:

Oddish: 12lb (Pokédex = 11.9 lb)
Venonat: 33lb (Pokédex = 66.1 lb) - There's two in the data but it says 33 for both sperately?
Dodrio: 188lb (Pokédex = 187.8lb)
Snorlax: 1014lb (Pokédex = 1041.1 lb)

I think the biggest cringe-worthy thing there is the way he says data. It's day-ter. You Americans and your crazy pronunciations... And your use of the imperial system for the matter.

Tracey's in the anime, at most, twice every couple of hundred episodes. It's hardly show-ruining if it's bad.

I don't know if the voice Tracey has in one PLL is set in stone to be the Anime one.

Pokémon Learning League uses the anime voices. It was used by us as a preview to the voices shortly before season nine started and it's extremely unlikely that they used someone else for an episode that would have been dubbed around the same time as this was made.

You know, I really don't get how some people think that the notion that new voices=worse voices (in some cases dreadful) is somehow an absolute theory.

I'm actually going to out on a limb here and say that Tracey's new voice is just like Brock's little brother Forest's new voice. In other words, it's actually better than the previous voice and perfectly suitable for the character.

When Tracey first joined the group in the Orange Islands, I didn't think he was a necessary addition to the group. But beyond that, his voice, while not dreadful, was kind of underwhelming and didn't give him any real personality. Here, at least he has that. It's not steriotypical or over the top, but at last it gives him some life. And since he's from the islands, it's fitting to have some surfer dude in him.

Well obviously, the only reason Tracey was invented is because Nintendo/4kids thought Brock wouldn't be popular in the U.S. because of his eyes.

When Tracey bombed as a character and everyone liked Brock more, there's a reason why Tracey only lasted for the short 36 episode Orange Island saga. He's probably the least popular character ever on Ash's group, even below Max. The target audience, kids, hated Tracey which is why they got rid of him so quickly.

I did like his old voice a lot though, and he works much better as Oak's assitant. I don't think his new voice is that bad.

Also, now i've been able to listen to it - Tracey's new voice is fine. I don't see what people are complaining about....

There you go again, stating your opinion as fact.

Actually, I think I've heard that too.

I've heard simmilar things in other shows, such as that Misawa failed in character polls for GX and was slowly written out...but supposedly many fans started to like him more that's why they brought him back in Season 3.

They certainly love him on 2chan (pats folder of Hijacked Misawa pics)

I kinda like this new voice. It's less high pitched and annoying like I found his old one. And surfer dude really works for him.

I remember that being the case as well. I don't have any evidence in front of me, but consider this. If Tracey was such a big hit, why did Brock return as Ash and Misty's main companion after 31 episodes?

I also want to address another point. I remember a thread about the Pokemon Learning League popping up around September as well.

I don't know if this issue was addressed back then. Yes these are characters from the main series and yes voices in PLL are probably the same voices there. But this context, it isn't really fair to criticize the voice acting. The purpose of PLL is not performance art. Its goal is to provide a basic eduction to the recipients of the product.

In that same vein, I'm not too fond of the voices of Big Bird, Oscar, Grover, and Elmo. And don't even get me started on Barney. Nonetheless, programs such as Sesame Street should be commended for their success in education the public. On a similar note, everyone involved in PLL should be commended for their efforts as well.

Well obviously, the only reason Tracey was invented is because Nintendo/4kids thought Brock wouldn't be popular in the U.S. because of his eyes.

I heard it was because they did a poll and Brock ranked last. So at least they had some evidence that Brock wasn't as popular as the other characters, as opposed to just assuming that he wouldn't be. I doubt it was over his eyes, otherwise why continue to make characters with the squint? Lucy's fetish would have been completely different.

And also, about Tracey having a surfer accent since he's from the islands--one, we don't really know where he's from. He traveled around before meeting Ash and Misty, so he could be from anywhere, really. And two--can you imagine how annoying it would be if everyone from the islands had a surfer accent? How about all the Shamouti Islanders?

Heck, people complained when Brawly had a surfer accent, and he actually *was* a surfer!
