Trading, Friends, Gifting and more!

Oh wow, that looks great, especially the egg gift! Although I don't get what they mean with "the Pokémon stats will change randomly after trading." Does it mean it will scale according to your level? (Receiving a level 40 Pokémon will be scaled down to your level should you be lower, for example)

The only thing I don't like about it is the star dust cost of doing a trade. Trading never costed anything in the handheld games and star dus is precious enough as it is.

Just keep it mind it's Niantic we're talking about should your traded Pokémon vanish during the transaction. It wouldn't be the first time they introduce a new feature riddled with bugs.

Although trading sounds exciting, I really dislike that this is only a local thing as I dont know many people that still play this game, plus with the restrictions on trading legendaries and shinies, there goes my hope of ever getting any legendary. I really wish they'd made it an option to do trading and friend things online, not everyone is lucky enough to have a ton of local friends that play GO.

Trading is only local, that's a shame. I guess people would be able to fill up their exclusives in no time if it was worldwide.

But I have someone I can trade with, they don't play much but they do play a bit, so hopefully I can get some Alolan forms from them every now and then.

IVs re-roll in an attempt to cull down the black market nature we'd inevitably get otherwise in GO :( Unfortunately unlike the main series it is too easy for scammers to have multiple accounts and mass catch desirable spanws (such as 100% IV pseudo-legendaries) only to sell them away afterwards.

Unfortunately this also stops cold any attempts to trade around useful high IV Pokemon with actual local players. So I mostly expect trades to revolve around shinies and regionals. And unfortunately I don't feel like wasting up a special trade's worth of Stardust for collection purposes only.

The two good things I can get out of this? First, if movesets do not re-roll alongside IVs (which unfortuantely might not be the case because of how IV-moveset rolls have been programmed so far), we could get low IV legacy Pokemon (I'm looking at you, Shadow Claw Gengar!) in attempts to get their IVs up. Second, my IRL best friend and another friend of ours are going to try to hit best friends as soon as possible and trade around a few other Pokemon we've been looking out for on each other's accounts and wish we'd have the other way around.

I'm quite a casual player of Go, never really bothered about my level and whatnot and really focused on collecting. But, I worked at it last week and finally got myself to Level 30 so I was super excited when this was announced because I thought "yes, my effort has been worth it".
People in my area play, but I don't know any of them and I'm not sure how to reach out... anyone on here live in Scotland, near Glasgow?
I have a brother and a friend who play, but neither of them are at the required level. Hopefully they lower that soon so I can give away some of these gifts. I desperately want Alolan monsters, especially with Let's Go xomico soon.

While the features sound neat, I am disappointed that trading is only local. It's not surprising since they've mentioned that would be the case whenever trading came up before, but it's so limiting. Not everyone has friends who still play the game or feel comfortable with going up to people for trading. Plus, making it an online feature would be really helpful in getting region exclusive Pokemon. If they aren't going to bother making them available for other players unless they travel to different countries, they might as well let people trade them. I don't know if it's possible for them to update that later, but it would be nice if they could.

Do you have to be with a person to send them Gifts though? That does sound like something I could do if I just need their Trainer Code and it would be nice to have access to some Alola form eggs.

Gifts can be sent online, its only trading that has to be done locally.

Also the feature is available for all levels now.

That's not exactly correct. There is now a badge showing the km of your trades. Gold is 1,000,000 km. Someone on a local discord "I swapped Pokémon from Minneapolis a few times with my brother" of about 595 km.

That's good to know. Thank you for the clarification. I'll hopefully be at least able to give out some Gifts and get some Alola form eggs once I finish hatching all of the two kilometer eggs I have left over from the Water event.
