If I'm not mistaken, aren't the icons for the Stadium trainer classes merely headshots of the class's Sugimori artwork? I know that sprites are the last resort of the Infobox's representation hierarchy, but if they really are Sugimori artwork, it means they aren't really sprites and thus should not be overlooked. And when I originally titled this, I was initially thinking of only Stadium 2 and by the time I started the thread, realized my stupid mistake a bit too late. So keep in mind, I'm thinking of both Stadiums

Any thoughts?

im a little torn on the thought. the Stadium headshots do offer more quality, but on the contrary, they are, as told, simply headshots and dont show the whole body.

it should be noted though that while they were created by Sugimori, they are not specifically "Sugimori Artwork" as his work is generally defined as a full body shot.

I personally have been a little perturbed by how some of them are using sprites when there have been cards released featuring them. Sage...Collector...Twins...(and eventually hooligans). Isn't it like #2 in the priority chain to use card artwork? I don't see why they went straight to sprites.

I'm not sure either, but that's why I created the priority chain. It seemed inconistent, and I needed to fix that. After all, why else would there be a suggestion section

It's a case of Quality vs. Quantity. If there is no better quality non-sprite artwork, then use the sprite.

I think all of those should be changed, since we even went and decided on a priority chain.

Sorry but I'm a little confused on what the topic is, is that the trainer images used for Pokemon Stadium 1&2 should be classified as artwork and not as sprites, or that a different type of image should be used for the trainer images?

Also, what is this "priority chain" that you speak of?

Game art > TCG Art > Anime/Manga caps > Latest sprite

Game art > TCG Art > Anime/Manga caps > Latest sprite

Tahnk you for the lovely flow chart lol
If that is indeed the priority chain, then there shouldn't be a problem with the images used because they're all game art used exclusively for their respective games

I think you may be confusing Game art with Sprites. Game art refers to Art done by Ken Sugimori (or, in later generations, his assistants/whatever they are), as seen on the Youngster page. The in-game representation is called a Sprite.

EDIT: A slightly clearer explanation:

The "Game art" is like the final concept art. The art on which the in-game things (sprites) are based.
