(03:43:39 AM) Justin Mills: Why does every Trainer class get their own page?
(03:43:44 AM) Justin Mills: Seriously, it's depressing
(03:44:14 AM) Justin Mills: I could write a decent page on Master Balls, but they get merged.... and the Pyramid King gets his own page.
(03:46:55 AM) TTFutureEchidna: That I say talk page.
(03:47:03 AM) TTFutureEchidna: I don't agree with it either.
(03:47:15 AM) TTFutureEchidna: We really should condense some of those.
(03:48:28 AM) Justin Mills: Some?
(03:48:30 AM) Justin Mills: All!
(03:48:32 AM) Justin Mills: By generation
(03:49:14 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Eh maybe.
(03:49:26 AM) TTFutureEchidna: List of trainer classes in Generation I.
(03:49:30 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Capital T.
(03:49:31 AM) Justin Mills: Exactly
(03:49:43 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Suggest it on a talk page. I'm all for it.
(03:49:48 AM) Justin Mills: Which one though?
(03:49:54 AM) TTFutureEchidna: NO IDEA.
(03:49:55 AM) Justin Mills: Trainer classes?
(03:50:08 AM) TTFutureEchidna: This.
(03:50:31 AM) Justin Mills: Already had it
(03:50:32 AM) Justin Mills: X)
(03:50:39 AM) TTFutureEchidna: It'd be nice, you know, if on the generational pages, it could list off the names of all trainers of that class.
(03:50:44 AM) TTFutureEchidna: And their location.
(03:51:09 AM) Justin Mills: PokeEarth could do that
(03:51:10 AM) Justin Mills: for us
(03:51:11 AM) Justin Mills: :D
(03:51:21 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Bug Catcher
Mike - Route 3
Jimmy - Route 17
Billiam - Route 24.
(03:51:22 AM) Justin Mills: But I was actually thinking that
(03:51:32 AM) TTFutureEchidna: With the sprite.
(03:51:42 AM) Justin Mills: Hm...
(03:51:49 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Hm.
(03:51:49 AM) Justin Mills: But then with Bug Catchers
(03:51:55 AM) Justin Mills: Some would warrant their own page
(03:52:02 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Like... who?
(03:52:03 AM) Justin Mills: Or Rocket Grunts... oh dear
(03:52:08 AM) Justin Mills: No I mean
(03:52:14 AM) Justin Mills: There are SO many Bug Catchers
(03:52:17 AM) Justin Mills: and SO many Rocket Grunts
(03:52:24 AM) Justin Mills: Silph Co would be a nightmare
(03:52:26 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Can't be that many...
(03:53:22 AM) Justin Mills: I'd bet money
(03:53:30 AM) Justin Mills: That there over 200 Rocket Grunts
(03:53:31 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Maybe 40.
(03:53:35 AM) TTFutureEchidna: 200!?
(03:53:38 AM) Justin Mills: Yes
(03:53:40 AM) TTFutureEchidna: In the Gen I game?
(03:53:44 AM) Justin Mills: Ah wait
(03:53:47 AM) TTFutureEchidna: I'd doubt it.
(03:53:47 AM) Justin Mills: I forgot
(03:53:49 AM) Justin Mills: By generation
(03:53:51 AM) TTFutureEchidna: YES
(03:53:58 AM) Justin Mills: I was thinking over all time
(03:54:26 AM) Justin Mills: Yeah... particularly because FRLG dummed the game down, particularly with Rocket Grunts
(03:54:36 AM) Justin Mills: And so a lot of those were redone.
(03:54:38 AM) Justin Mills: :(
(03:54:58 AM) Justin Mills: I missed "Rocket Grunt sent out Dewgong!"
(03:55:15 AM) Justin Mills: Also, the rival section for Gen III might be a pain
(03:55:25 AM) Justin Mills: Perhaps noteable classes get their own pages
(03:55:59 AM) TTFutureEchidna: Well there's nothing saying Gen III can't be split.

Discuss.

So you want to merge all the existing trainer class articles (with some possible exceptions for classes like Rival or Gym Leader) into a series of "List of trainer classes in generation N" articles. I guess that makes sense, since most of the articles barely have a paragraph of information. So what would go where in this system?

I don't know what to do about classes that appear throughout generations; do they warrant their own pages? And how to handle trainers of these classes?

The templates do it by when the class was first introduced. We could do the same for this.

How would you handle pages having 20+ images to show a sprite for each class on it?

I think it's fine as is, but if condensing is necessary, I'd do it with different parameters than generation; I'd do something like folding Galactic Grunt/Commander/Galactic Boss into "Team Galactic (Trainer Classes)" or putting Pyramid King, Palace Maven, Factory Head, Dome Ace, Arena Tycoon, Pike Queen, Salon Maiden/Tower Tycoon, Stage Madonna, Castle Butler and Roulette Godess into "Frontier Brains (Trainer Classes)."

I think doing this would cut some of the clutter while also avoiding the issue of having dozens of images on generation-specific pages.

Easy. We've got pages with 493+ images on them and they load fine. At least it's not like... well, the sprite checklist page... ouchies.

Perhaps so. I still think, though, that at least gathering the ones that can be grouped into said groups would at least be easier to navigate than just throwing, say, all the Gen IV classes onto a single page and putting all the sprites into one huge image grid.

It's like you read my mind, Paperfairy. And I mean it very, very seriously. I was just compiling a list... Here it is:

Trainer Classes with only one Trainer listed

Villainous Team Leaders
Boss (Giovanni)
Aqua Leader (Archie)
Magma Leader (Maxie)
Galactic Boss (Cyrus)

Battle Frontier
Arena Tycoon (Greta)
Palace Maven (Spenser)
Pike Queen (Lucy)
Pyramid King (Brandon)
Dome Ace (Tucker)
Castle Butler (Kokuran)
Roulette Goddess (Dahlia)
Stage Madonna (Kate)

Other
Mysticalman (Eusine)

Trainer Classes with numbered Trainers listed

Villainous Team Admins
Commander (Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto*)
Magma Admin (Courtney, Tabitha, Mack*, FireHeads*)
Aqua Admin (Matt, Shelly, Amber*, Subleaders of the Sea Scheme*)
Rocket Executive (???)

Battle Frontier
Tower Tycoon (Anabel*, Palmer)
Factory Head (Noland, Nejiki)

For the trainer classes that have only one trainer, I obviously suggest making them simple redirects to that respective page. (I mean, Galactic Boss, seriously?), with some exceptions (Boss should be a disambiguation, for example).

For the ones that have limited trainers (all with individual pages, so I'm not so sure on Rocket Executive), I think all should be deleted, but putting that info in different places. For example, the Team Admins should have a subsection in the Team page (Commanders, Aqua/Magma Admins...). Tower Tycoon, as it's the title ONLY of Palmer in English, should redirect to him, with a notice on top ("Tower Tycoon" redirects here. If you were looking for the head of the Battle Tower of Hoenn, see Salon Maiden Anabel). Factory Head could suffer the same fate, depending on whether the title for Nejiki gets changed in Platinum. If not, it should be a disambiguation page.

Now, as for merging ALL Trainer classes... I think that's a bit extreme. I mean, some of the most established trainer classes (Bug Catcher, Youngster, Hiker) could easily get a full page of their own. I mean, have you seen the Bug Catcher page lately? It's bigger than many other possibly more important articles! In turn, I think trainer classes somehow related to these 'core' classes (Bug Maniac, Bug Catching Man) could have a subsection there.

(EDIT: No, I didn't pull "Bug-Catching Man" out of anywhere, I just didn't link it properly at first.)

Oh, and I think Galactic Grunts and other Team grunts deserve their own page, we just have to expand them. They have even appeared in the anime, even if as background characters.

Oh, and the massive Trainer Class templates get annoying (especially if they're in places they don't seem to belong, like the Galactic Grunt page, where the Team Galactic template is much more suited), so I'd be glad if we got rid of them.

Hmmm... There is a project on Trainer Classes. You can take it up there, maybe?

Soft redirect the Galatic Boss redirect. Anyone living under a rock won't know that Cyrus is Galactic's leader.

Do you really think that's necessary? As you said, only people who have been living under a rock wouldn't know it, and, sincerely, the Pokemon games don't focus on story-line, so spoilers about them don't really ruin a new player's experience with the game, IMO.

Also... so what do you think? Should I go on and merge the trainer classes with only one or few trainers in them to the actual trainers (like the ones I mentioned on my previous post)?

Actually that is not a bad idea. This is no point in keeping trainer classes with one trainer in it. Go ahead. :D

LIBERUM VETO!

I don't want one long page (or four long pages, no matter) with all Trainer Pages.

OMG, I hate the "we have X, so we should have Y" and opposite "we don't have X, so we shouldn't have Y" logic.

Trainer Classes are a thing which generally deserve some love, yet they don't get it.

I think there is NOTHING bothering in separate Trainer Class articles.

When I add Trainer Lists for every class, the articles will be much better (though I must find time for this). LET ME DO IT!

Those are also characters, minor but still characters!

It's not so much hurting anything as the fact that they're gonna be permanent stubs. You can have a million sprites, but honestly, there's not much to say about Idols.

We could keep them separate and list off all Trainers of that class in the article, separated by generation (Rocket Grunts in I, II, III, IV by location, team etc...). But the classes which are just facets of one class (FRONTIER BRAAAAAAINS!) and therefore have only one member should be combined.

Join the Trainer Class project and we can sort things out, and unstubify some of these articles.

Well, merging the specific classes with their only member is a thing that I could agree on.

But DO NOT merge "normal" classes! Never!

If the fact that Balls are merged, while the Trainer Classes are not, then what about separating the article about PokeBalls (then again, I HATE the if we have X, then we must have Y logic, it doesn't work on Pedias)? Though again, not much can be said about Balls (not mine, the catching Balls!) except how their work and where can they be found.

And there are so many pages which will be permanent stubs on Bulbapedia, that the Trainer Classes are not so hurting after all.
