I've been wondering, nn the Pokemon world, do they have one? They said you need to be ten years old. I remembered seeing in the show why I thought of this but I forgot. Let me rethink.

In the first few episodes (Ep. 2, I think), Officer Jenny hauls Ash over for carrying a Pikachu, and requests to see his PokeDex, which contains his ID. So the license must be in the PokeDex.
In other forms, I've no idea. Not all trainers would have one, and kids younger than 10 would probably have one as a pet.

I remember now. If some has a Pokedex, that means they are licensed. When they catch more than six Pokemon, it transfers to the deposit places. What about that guy Damian(Charmander's Original Owner)? He showed all the Monster Balls he has. This means he's not a legal trainer? Am I right or wrong?

Not sure, but I'm pretty sure that in the anime, the Pokedex is their liscence. In the games, the Trainer Card is.

I thought Liza and Tate looked like twelve or so...

But gym leader families are obviously exceptions...you can train Pokemon without being a trainer if your parents are amenable to letting you use theirs, so by the time you get your license, you're already experienced....

Ummm, Tate and Liza aside...

Remember the kids in the "Bout with Sprout" episode? They were clearly younger than Ash, but that one kid in particular caught and used a Bellsprout. I doubt there's any rule against it.

Though, yes, I'm sure officially becoming a trainer involves acquiring a license. Think of all the times Ash has had to register for the League and such. And considering every trainer would have to do that, we're talking more than just the Pokedex. There probably is a trainer card existing even in the anime, Ash just happens to have his Pokedex so he doesn't really need one.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure in the 1st episode they directly say something about a license.

Team rocket use those cards that James has, so they technically don't have a license XD
Yes I'm sure the first episode when oak handed ash the pokedex he said
"You are now an OFFICIAL trainer" or something like that

Maybe you need a licence to fight in Gyms and things like that, but you can catch and battle with Pokemon before that age?

I would say that logically, a license would be needed. An elementally super-powered creature is a lot more dangerous than a car.
I would think that, looking at the world as akin to our own, license would be given out at age 18 or so.

Yeah. I find the whole "Trainer at 10" thing fair annoying. Here in australia, if pokemon was real, we wouldn't be allowed to touch the things till we were at least 16. I mean, we can legally drink at 18 *hoorah for the aussies* so, in retrospect, the trainer at 10 wouldn't happen here.

I also remember Blaine specifically mentioning a license -- the first time Ash battled him, and Ash stopped the battle because it was getting too dangerous for Pikachu, Blaine said something like "If you had continued the match, I would have been forced to revoke your Pokemon license." or something. So, that not only tells us that such licenses exist, but also that Gym leaders (and presumably other authority figures) have the power to revoke them if they deem the trainer's behavior unsuitable -- like a cop suspending/revoking your driving license for participating in a dangerous activity, like driving drunk.

-- like a cop suspending/revoking your driving license for participating in a dangerous activity, like driving drunk.

The irony being that Blaine was forcing Ash to pursue the more dangerous path, though one can assume that as a gym leader, he knew that Ash may have just been overreacting since he was still a new trainer.

One thing I want to know is how in the video games you have your liscense right from the start, before you get your Pokemon. And in some games, is seems you have it before you even consider getting a Pokemon.

With all the episodes I've seen, I would agree that all trainers have licenses, most likely registered in their PokeDex. Younger people can also have or even own Pokemon, but are not going to be allowed to officially battle or challenge any Trainer, Gym or League until they're old enough for their license.

As for Fuu and Ran (Liza and Tate for dub fans), yeah, I agree they would already be around the age for the license. They probably just look younger than they really are, as a lot of anime characters tend to be. (Anyone watch R.O.D: The TV? Yomiko Readman is 30 years old in there, but just look at her!)

The culture is different I think in letting kids do allot more stuff. They can drive younger (gary had a car at ten) so that explains that. (no legal drinking age in italy and all that)

the license is like this
now as far as the pokemon as weapons you realize there was probably some pokemon classes you had to take like getting a gun license probably a background check so they don't just hand em out to anyone. I mean they are young but they can drive age doesn't affect ability its just responsibility that makes age limits and as I said most italian children drink responsibly so most pokemon kids train responsively.

They probably have trainer cards too. To show they are competitive trainers and not just some guy who has pokemon but doesn't battle through the league.

And just because ash's is in his pokedex doesn't mean they all are. Think drivers licenses in the future they might just be a scan able card like the pokedex so something like that

op do pokeballs over six automatically teleport in the anime? I don't remember.

side note

badges probably installed with microchip to avoid fakes.

edit- if there were pokemon classes before you get you're license I bet ash cheated on the test:loopy:
