Transformers: The Movie Webcast Notes (Including "Cast" List)

Missed the first 20 minutes, but here are notes from the rest:

  • Autobots
    Optimus Prime
    Bumblebee
    Jazz
    Ratchet
    Ironhide

    Decepticons
    Megatron
    Starscream
    Brawl
    Bonecrusher
    Barricade (Cop Car)
    Frenzy
    Blackout
    Scorponok
  • Characters chosen based on the story itself. Some characters saved for future sequals.
  • In vehicle mode they'll have conventional Earth weaponry, but in robot mode they'll have sci-fi-type weapons (pulse blasters were specifically mentioned)
  • Michael Bay was the first director to get pitched the movie (in case you're unaware, he accepted).
  • There WILL be a Megatron/Optimus "street fight".
  • Contest announced. "Write a line for Optimus Prime." Winner gets their line in the movie.
  • Ended by showing the teaser trailer (which has been up for over a month).

Notes from Seibertron.com on characters:

The official Autobots in the movie are the following:

Optimus Prime
Bumblebee - 2008 Camaro (the underdog)
Jazz
Ratchet
Ironhide

All of the Autobots were already known. Nothing new with them. Now for the Decepticons ...

The official Decepticons in the movie are the following:

Megatron
Starscream
Brawl (an extremely pissed off Decepticon, tank?)
Bonecrusher (closest thing to a Constructicon)
Barricade (hunter of the group, police car)
Scorponok (closest thing to Beast Wars or Dinobot)
Frenzy (originally going to be Soundwave, character developed into Frenzy)
Blackout (transporter - I'm assuming this was Vortex)

Webcast went down at one point. Probably too many people. Kinda funny, though. The thing only lasted half an hour, total (so I only saw the last 10 minutes). If I come across any other interesting tidbits I'll update this post.
 
Wheir do you submit your line for Optimus Prime?
 
Reading those comments just makes me ROFL. Seriously. Complaining that the toys look ugly compared to the ORIGINALS... XD.

The original ones were the Butt Fucking Ugly ones. I like these. Almost enough to make me want to buy some next year.
 
It's not the movie toys themselves that disappoint me, it's how COMPLETELY different they look from EVERY OTHER Transformer toy or animation. Starscream looks like he should be dripping blood from his mouth. Bumblebee looks...alien. It's not the same humanoid, friendly robot I grew up with. It's...that thing. Now, Optimus has the right head...and that's all I was wanting. Blackout looks cool. Scorponok looks cool.

As for people complaining...they're probably G1 purists who bitch about every incarnation that isn't G1. They're a little crazy. Kinda like the Pokemon fans who bitch about every non-RBY Pokemon.
 
WTF? All I can say is that better be a prototype that undergoes alot of changes before it is finalized.
 
I don't even know what that is. :P It looks more like some kind of skeletal frame. A Transformer without armor.
 
I like these designs. It actually makes them look like alien robots instead of a bunch of odd cutesy mecha put together on a budget in Japan during the '70s. I would've prefered for the faces to remain similar, at least, though.

Megatron's been through so many bodies though, he's hardly recognizable anymore, anyways. Went from gun to laser cannon to t-rex to giant beetle tank jet god knows what else. Personally, I'm more embaressed of his goofy Armada Beetle design than anything else.
 
I loved how the mechas looked, why does everything have to be gritty now?

It's not the bodies or vehicle modes that bother me. It's that they completely lack familiarity. I look at that Megatron and I don't see Megatron. I see Predator. It looks more alien than robot. Like they thought "let's mess with their appearances", THEN worked on vehicle modes.

As for Armada Megatron...I liked it. I admit that the horns were a bit much, but it's better than the goofy bat wings-as-ears of RID Megs (and, c'mon...he transformed into a HAND). The movie megs doesn't bother me, vehicle-wise (Batmobile/Cybertron Megs saw to me ever caring about vehicle modes). It's ALL in the robot mode.

And, yes...these are early prototypes. But I've seen enough prototypes to know that the changes made are VERY little. Unless they're completely swapping heads, I probably won't be happy.

I like Bumblebee's design, and that's all that really matters to me. Still a shame he's not a volkswagon beetle, though. He was really as defined by that as Prime is a Semi-truck.
 
Yeah. And, in fairness to Hasbro, they TRIED to get VW to let them use the Beetle, but those wacky Germans weren't having it. So...Bumblebee gets two different Camaros as his vehicle mode (starts as a 70s model, then gets "modified" into an ad for the new Camaro).

But Optimus IS a truck. Starscream IS a jet. And, again...I've no issue with the vehicle modes. They got the major ones (Optimus and Starscream) right, so I'm happy.
 
It's silly how G1 Megatron ironically had the suckiest and stupidest "vehicle mode" ever. Did no one think how stupid it was for a robot covered in various laser weaponry to turn into a tiny, regular handgun?
 
Y'know, as a kid...didn't even think twice about it. As an adult...eh. I get why it's a bad choice, and have NEVER complained about his vehicle modes since then (except his Batmobile look from Cybertron, and kinda his Classics look). I don't even mind the movie vehicle mode. It's that creepy face.

But the real thing with his gun mode was that he was surprisingly powerful for a handgun. Usually one shot took out whoever it was fired at.
