Translating Pokemon BW2

I've been typing all the text from my imported white2 into Google translate and it's made me realize how awful it is... The sad thing... is google translate is the best one...

An example of something I tried to translate:「オマエは。。。　がんばれ！　ずかんみ　うめつつ　オリの　サポート　たのむぜッ！」

turned into this:　"You are. . . Go for it! ~Tsu Support a cage while I’m about to die … I filled picture book!"

wat?!?

Is anyone else actively translating the game?

Google translate sucks. Bad. If only there were more translators around. This is why I'm waiting for the American release. I can't read Japanese

Google translate is best used for single words or small pieces of sentences at a time so it doesn't have as much chance to get so garbled. However, you also incorrectly typed that sentence in, which doesn't help in the slightest. What you meant to type (I assume without going back to check what the actual quote it because that would take too much time) is probably: ずかんに　うめつつ　オレの　サポート　たのむぜッ！

Now, the problem with trying to translate Japanese this way is that without using kanji, it can be very difficult to figure out exactly what is meant by a particular word. If I just type this into Google translate, I get：I'm about to die ... my ~Tsu support while buried in the Book

Changing the words into the correct kanji, however, yields: ~Tsu'll Ask my support while buried in the Book

Obviously, this still isn't correct, but it's starting to make more sense. If I take off the final particle, which only adds emphasis to the sentence, it gets rid of the ~Tsu'll at the beginning. Also, the correct translation of うめつつ　is most likely "while filling" instead of "while buried", so you get a sentence that is more like: Ask my support while filling the book.

The book in this case refers to the Pokedex, so he's basically saying: "You... go for it! I ask for you to support me while filling your Pokedex!"

So basically, yes, Google translate sucks, but if you know enough Japanese, it can be a useful tool for double checking your translation.

That was really enlightening!! Hopefully my japanese will get better I play though the game. I'll have to keep all this in mind when im playing.
