Pokémon: Travelling Tales - Kanto Era

The Pokemon World is full of mysteries. In this world, people and Pokemon live in harmony. Partners in battle, as well as in life, living and working together side by side, they coexist.

In this world of theirs, everyone has a calling. Some turn out to be Professors and others doctors. Some become breeders while others become top flight coordinators and battlers. The best part of this world, is, by far, the room for journey, discovery and adventure. Some may go on journeys to make new friends and meet new Pokemon. Some may journey just for the pleasure of travelling. Some may journey for competition. No matter who you are, this world will always have something to offer to your liking. Eventually, some may find their calling and heed to it while others will choose to quit. Therefore, it is a matter of heart and strength in spirit, mind and body. Only the truly strong succeed, though most start out believing that they will succeed.

This story will chronicle a small group of trainers and coordinators who start as complete strangers to each other but grow to be friends and meet new Pokemon. They take on the gyms, contests and any other challenges each region has to offer. However, their journey is not all fun and games. Along the way, they make rivals, encounter a villainous team and may have to say goodbye to some loved ones. They won’t, however, be alone on their quests; there will be “help“, people and Pokemon that shall aid these trainers along the way. Some of these helpers might not be quite who (or what) you’d expect.

In this RPG, you will assume the role of a Pokemon Trainer, traveling to Kanto to start of his/her Pokemon Journey. The players will come into contact with countless people and Pokemon during their journeys, and depending on your actions towards them, could even alter the whole story. During the course of the RPG, the players will meet a villainous team that threatens the Pokemon world as we know it, establish an emotional connection with a legendary Pokemon and maybe even learn a little something about themselves. But, for now, just enjoy your journey!

Rules:
- No gomodding, flaming, bunnying, etc.
-I want this RP to progress through the various regions. For this RP, I believe that the ideal number is 4-5 trainers. If there are more, I will have a selection process and if you are not chosen you may try for the Johto RP.
-I want to emphasize that whoever joins the RP is expected to be active and get to post at least a few times every day, if not more frequently.
-This RP is going to be more like a democracy. I will have all the members debate on important issues related to the RP and in most cases what the majority says will go (of course there will be times where I will say the final word on a matter)
-Keep romance PG-13
-acs1903 us the co-GM. Whatever he or I say is law.
-Put ColourTheory is so sexy and I desperately crave him! in your sing-up if you read the rules.
-Being that this is a Kanto RP, the most common Pokemon in the wild will be native to Kanto and Johto. Hoenn Pokemon will also be found, just quite not as common. I'd prefer there be no Sinnoh or Unova native Pokemon, unless you have a very good reason behind it.
-Abra is reserved for AC!

My Sign-Up/Example
Name: Alex Santos
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Training Career: League
Birthplace: Hearthome City, Sinnoh

Starter Pokémon: Riolu [Lucy, Female]

Appearance: Alex is quite tall for his age, standing at 6'2, with a rather fair complexion. He has a stocky, well-toned musculature due to hardy, vigorous lifestyle. Alex has shaggy light brown hair, dropping down to only just above his ears, and a pair of bright, amber eyes with hints of gray in them. He normally shoots for comfort rather than style in his clothing. Alex usually wears a red colored short sleeve t-shirt under a black sleeveless jacket. He also wears a pair of thorn off jeans and worn out, red tennis sneakers. He tops off the look by wearing a pair of black fingerless gloves.

Personality: Alex is an easy-going, collected kid, always ready for adventure. He enjoys meeting new people and is generally open towards making new friends. His appearance and initial stoicism can be off-putting or even intimidating to some, but time will soon show a lovable bundle of jaded cynicism and contempt. He's world-weary without the burden of being world-wise. Alex has always had an adoration of Pokemon, always trying to be caring, and kind-hearted towards them. It makes him sick with anger to think that there are people who abuse and treat Pokemon horribly. Alex gets in over his head with things at times, hating to be overshadowed by others. He is quite bold, sometimes even being a little impulsive, and is normally one not afraid to take risks. All in all, Alex is an upbeat, outward young man that loves to cheer people up.

History: Alex was born in Hearthome City, Sinnoh where he lived a fairly normal life, at least through most of his life. He always had a lot of friends at school and was generally liked by the people that knew him. His family being neither poor nor rich, Alex had a classic middle-class upbringing. He quite enjoyed growing up and living in the big city, he got to see all different kinds of both people and Pokémon who travelled through the city. He attended the Pokémon School in the city but after his completion of the program he just didn’t have the desire to start on a journey like all the other kids in his class, feeling as if something was wrong with him, being that he wasn’t overly fascinated by Pokémon. One fateful night, Alex's father was murdered by a member of Team Galactic, after refusing to give up his Pokemon. After this occurred the boy and his mother had to fare for themselves, something that was beginning to become increasingly hard with the loss. The incident left Alex with a sickening hatred of all evil organizations around the world.

At the age of twelve, Alex got into battling as a sport, he started watching tapes of famous trainer battles and became more interesting in traveling but it wasn't the joy of traveling it was the thing he could get. With that he prepared himself for his journey so that he could become champion not for the fame and fortune, but for the glory. Through this he worked for months to try and gain the right amount of money to last him until he was at least skilled enough to get his own money for sure and settled for leaving on his journey. Alex took a ship directly to Pallet Town, once deciding to start his journey in Kanto. As a present for him leaving Alex's mother bestowed upon him a Riolu that he could use in battle, his first ever Pokemon.

With some active posters, this may very well be the best journey RP! Here's my SU:

Name/Nickname: Goes by AC, never reveals his own name.
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Training Career: League
Birthplace: Mossdeep City, Hoenn

Starter Pokémon: Abra (Male)

Appearance: AC is 190 cm (which is about 6'2'') and weighs around 82 kg (approximately 180.7 lbs). He has messy, medium length hair. His hair is pitch-black and his hair is quite bushy. His irises are also pitch-black. He does not have any facial hair nor does he want any. His body has a high fat ratio and low muscle ratio. He is not that well-built, but due to his height he does seem thin compared to his actual weight. The majority of his fat is around his thighs.

As for his clothing the following can be said: He has three different outfits that he is comfortable with it. Before leaving Mossdeep to start his journey, he worked in the Space Center. Thus, he has a white labcoat that reaches his feet. Sometimes he is seen with that white labcoat on. His white labcoat has one large pocket over his heart, which he uses to place pens, important cards and other things. In addition, on both sides of his labcoat, near the thighs, are pockets. He usually keeps them empty but he does sometimes use them to keep his only Pokeball. His second outfit is his sports outfit. It consists of a black hoodie with a white eagle (if you say eagles don't exist in the Pokemon World, then think of it as a White-Black colored Braviary) on the back and black sweatpants with three white stripes running down sides. His third outfit is his black suit. It consists of a black top hat with a white stripe, a black blouse and grey tie, a black tux and black pants with black dress shoes. He plans to use his second outfit during his travels (i.e. travelling from town to town). He plans to use his third outfit during his battles as he believes that he needs to look his best when he battles.

Personality: Both of AC's parents work at the Mossdeep Space Center, thus they are barely ever home during the day. What's more is that AC has a younger brother. Since his parents are rarely home, AC had to look after his brother at a very young age. This taught him to be responsible. Furthermore, it thought him to prioritize as he had sacrifice his free time and play time with his friends in order to look after his brother. He learned that duty came before fun. Moreover, since both his parents are scientists, they gave extreme importance to AC's education. Thus, AC's priority as a child was to learn about mathematics, the sciences and other classes rather than Pokemon. Thus, AC did not have the same experience with Pokemon when compared with most of his peers. Instead, he had intimate relations with books from his father's personal library. This resulted with AC being smarter and wiser compared to his peers. Furthermore, all the studying and his perseverance to keep on studying made him extremely determined. This intelligence and wisdom made him someone who everyone looked up to and came to for advice. He became doubly venerable with his radiating smile. He wanted to reciprocate the love he received from his friends, thus he became extremely generous. All in all, he turned into a leader among his peers. However, like every leader, AC also has tragic flaws. First, he still has a cry-baby streak. He sometimes cries when something doesn't go his way. Sometimes he becomes extremely angry and loses his reasoning skills. He starts to yell and can't calm down. His rage is best compared to volcano erupting, however this rage is quite rare. Furthermore, he is not that close with Pokemon which is troublesome for him but through this journey he desires to resolve that problem. What AC has yet to learn is that thinking is not only done with the mind but with the heart as well. Once he comes across this realization, his whole personality and life may change.

History: AC was born in Mossdeep City to a family of scientists. Both of his parents worked at the Mossdeep Space Center. Thus, as a toddler, he spent his days in the Space Center alongside his parents. Thus, at a young age, he was exposed to the Space Center and the tasks of scientists. As he grew a bit older, he began to go to school. He would spend the morning in school and the afternoon in the Space Center. Soon, his brother was born and at the age of 8, he was responsible of looking after his newly born brother. Thus, he barely had any time for Pokemon. His life consisted of looking after his brother, going to school and spending time in the Space Center.

However, all his friends spent time with their parents Pokemon. This caused a longing for Pokemon within AC. He would spend most of his free time looking up at the sky in awe at the sight of the freely moving bird Pokemon. He wanted Pokemon, but he knew that his parents would say that his studies come first. Nevertheless, he decided to ask for a Pokemon for his tenth birthday and to his surprise his parents accepted. His father took AC to a batch of grass to catch him a Pokemon. AC told his father that he wanted an Alakazam just like his father's. His father called upon his Alakazam and they began to search for an Abra. They had started the search for an Abra around noon and as the sun set on Mossdeep during the summer day, his father still had not found an Abra. He didn't want to let down his son so he promised AC that he would stay up all night looking for the Abra. AC, too, wanted to watch his father catch an Abra but sleep overcame him and AC went to bed. When he got up to go to school, he was faced with a surprise. Across his bed stood an Abra. His father had kept his promise and caught an Abra. AC was extremely happy. He ran to the Abra and hugged him. Abra had taken a liking to AC right away. This was the start of a brand new friendship. It also marked AC's first interaction with actual Pokemon.

However, AC's parents' restrictions prevented him from pursuing his goal to challenge the Pokemon League and travel the various regions of the Pokemon World. He had to first become a scientist as that was his parents' dream. Thus, he and Slowpoke barely battled but studied together. Sometimes they would practice Slowpoke's moves but that was it. At the age of 13, AC had finished his education. With his intelligence, he began to work as an assistant to the scientists in the Space Center along with his Abra. After four years of assisting scientists, AC was finally allowed to become an actual scientist in the Space Center. His parents were also proud of him as AC had fulfilled their dreams for him at the age of 17. Thus, they allowed AC to start living independently. AC could finally do what he wanted. He talked with the director and told him how he had always wanted to win the Pokemon League and travel the world meeting new Pokemon along the way. His director was also a trainer once and he could easily empathize with AC. Thus, he allowed AC to pursue his dream as a trainer only if he was to comeback and work at the Space Center once his journey was over. AC accepted without hesitation. Thus, with his Abra he set out start his journey to become a Champion. Though he had his Abra for seven years, AC and Abra had no battling experience and thus it was as if AC was going to get to know Slowpoke all over again along with meeting new Pokemon. AC consulted his friends Tate and Liza, the gym leaders of Mossdeep City and they told him that the journey would strengthen his bond with his Abra and teach him true friendship. Thus, he decided to start off by meeting Professor Oak and starting his journey in the Kanto region.

So, he embarks on his journey to Kanto and perhaps to the rest of the Pokemon world with hopes that he will meet new friends, interact with Pokemon, see the world in all its shame and glory and perhaps find a new occupation to do rather than return to the old, monotonous life at the Space Center.

Name: Justin Gaines
Nickname: N/A
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Training Career: Trainer
Birthplace: Ecruteak City, Johto

Starter Pokémon: Cyndaquil(Ty, Male)

Appearance: Justin is a fairly slender teenager, standing at about 5'4" and having a fairly light skin tone. He has a set of green eyes and short blonde hair that is sometimes stylized in a fauxhawk or its messy if not stylized. Justin will usually wear a pair of light brown cargo shorts and over a gray tshirt he wears, he wears a short plaid button up short sleeved shirt, colored red white and black. He also wears a pair of black and white sneakers.

Personality
: Justin is generally very easy to get along with due to laid back and friendly nature. He is very open to others and is always eager to meet new people. His love of adventure was formed growing up as he explored the outskirts of Ecruteak City often, which was also what brought him to meet his beloved Cyndaquil. When it comes to Pokemon, especially his Cyndaquil; Justin has a strong soft spot for Pokemon and won't stand for Pokemon mistreatment/abuse. Despite his generally pleasant nature, Justin is generally hotheaded and he is quite impulsive, quick to confront those that are seen abusing or mistreating Pokemon. He is also one to hold grudges and take words of others to heart as well.

History: Justin comes from a rather accomplished family, being the son of a gym leader and a former top coordinator, as well as having a brother who is a very talented and strong trainer. His three passions begun at an early age, living in Ecruteak City. His love of battling stemmed from continually watching his father face other trainers. His love of adventure came from his curiosity as a child he explored the outskirts of Ecruteak Cityand occasionally accompanied his brother while he was traveling through Johto. He also was very friendly and caring towards Pokemon. When his parents saw this at a young age, they sent Justin away to the Violet City Pokemon Academy.

At the academy, Justin quickly learned about what it takes to be a trainer and he was shown to be easily able to connect to most Pokemon the trainers were given in the school to practice with. Despite his ability to connect, he was continually pressured by other students about the reputation his family had because of their accomplishments. He felt as if he had to prove he was as good as his family and he was usually outsmarted by the more harsh students. He picked up the basic skills of Pokemon training and battles and he managed to pass the academy's program. This left him a little frustrated, realizing he had such a reputation to live up to.

When he returned home, Justin's parents suggested he went on a journey of his own in Johto, a suggestion which Justin almost instantly agreed he should try. He had the option to be taken to New Bark Town where he could pick up his started Pokemon, though Justin declined his parents offer and decided he wanted to travel by foot and explore some more. While barely on the outskirts of Ecruteak City, Justin came across a rather horrific sight. In the woods, he found a trainer beating up a defenseless Cyndaquil whom he owned with his Scyther. Justin was shocked by the cruelty of this trainer and when he saw how horribly injured the Cyndaquil looked, Justin had to do something. Justin took matters into his own hands and attacked the trainer who had been abusing and insulting the young Cyndaquil. Justin quickly grabbed the bloodied up and bruised Cyndaquil and rushed off with him, though the trainer attempted to chase after them. Justin managed to find a place to hide with the Cyndaquil who was clinging onto the last amount life he had. Justin rushed him back to Ecruteak City after he escaped this trainer and immediately rushed Cyndaquil to the Pokemon Center. He managed to get Cyndaquil there in time and Nurse Joy was able to heal him back to full health. Upon hearing of Justin's rescue, Justin's mother suggested that Justin kept the Cyndaquil and trained him. Justin happily agreed, adopting Cyndaquil as his first Pokemon who was more than delighted to have someone so kind as a trainer.

It was a couple weeks before Justin left Ecruteak City again, after Cyndaquil who he named Ty had managed to make a full recovery and went through a little bit of training. While in Goldenrod City, Justin and Ty surprisingly met Professor Oak who was just getting off his morning radio show with DJ Mary. Professor Oak suggested to him that he payed a visit to Kanto and take on the Indigo League and to stop by his lab where once he got there. Justin readily agreed to take on the Kanto region's league rather than Johto's. He figured he'd take on Johto after the Indigo League was over, and hopefully in this league he could prove his worth as a Gaines family member. Though does he necessarily need the so called fame and reputation his family has?

Question, how many people have to sign up here before the Start Up is started?

@Haruhi Suzumiya; There is no set amount, but it porbably won't start up until early next week, being that I'm going to be away all weekend.

Furthermore, as I'm sure all of you have read the rules, if there are more than 4-5 people signing up then there will be a selection process. So, please keep in mind that at the moment all members signing up are put on the pending list. Whenever ColourTheory is ready to start, the sign-ups will close. Thus, we shall see how many people sign-up until then. Also, just a little bit of info on how the selection process will work (if there is one): ColourTheory and I will look at SU quality, RP skill and member activity.

Just wanted to clear that up as well :)

Name:Drake Ryuu

Nickname: N/A

Age: 17

Gender: male

Training Career:Contests

Birthplace: Verdanturf, Hoenn

Starter Pokémon: Pichu, female, nicknamed Flower (would it be okay if it was a spiky-eared pichu since I don't plan on evolving it)

Appearance: Drake has short green hair with his bangs ending right above his eyes, and the back extending to the base of his neck while staying close to the neck. He has hazel eyes and wears an orange t-shirt with a purple hooded vest over it, blue jeans and orange and purple sneakers.

Personality: Drake is usually calm and collected. He likes art and loves to draw pokemon. He also loves to show off his pokemon. He is very tolerant of other people of all different kinds, and prefers to avoid problems. He can’t stand someone who is a bully or thinks themselves better than anyone, this annoys him and he will act on it not caring about a fight. He will start conversation to avoid any awkward quiet as he does not like awkward positions.

History: Drake is the youngest of two with his brother five years his senior. Growing up his parents got divorced and his father moved to a different region and town, not to be seen again. His mom worked multiple jobs to support them, so his brother would often baby sit him, who was usually him picking on him. Their mother never knew or else his brother would do worse to him. When he started going to school, other kids would often pick on him for his hair as his mother and brother both had brown hair instead. Drake dealt with this by drawing, something he had a natural talent for.
When he was about twelve some kids were picking on him and his brother passed by. His brother being embarrassed by him decided to root the other kids on by just watching and hanging with some of his friends. Drake got angry and tried to defend himself from the kids resulting in a fist fight. This ended up with Drake being overpowered and his brother still not helping. A kid his age visiting the town on his journey came by and helped him out beating all the other kids without his pokemon, took Drake and helped patch him up. Inspired by the other kid Drake worked to better himself and to help those bullied. (Their mother still never found out about his brothers wrong doings as Drake never wanted to worry her)
At 15 Drake was walking around and saw someone abandoning a pichu in front of the Verdanturf Tunnel. When the pichu tried to follow the trainer, the trainer kicked it away. Drake angered by this ran to help pichu, but not without punching the trainer out for abuse. Once he got the pichu to trust him he offered for it to come home with him and he would take care of it. She agreed and he named her Flower. This was difficult as he had started working at 13, so he had to leave her home alone, but despite this they quickly became close and two years later, after saving some money Drake decided to become a trainer. He hopes to meet and defeat his brother, as well as the boy who had helped him.

ColourTheory is so sexy and I desperately crave him!

@mwto; Yes, spiky-eared Pichu is fine. I'll add you to the pending members.

Okey, so I'm probably going to ramble a lot in this post, be warned

First of all, I think it's a pretty neat idea to get all sign-ups first before deciding on who to accept and stuff. Wish I had thought of it in my last (failed) roleplay XD

Anyway, I also got a question. Would it be okey to use a more experienced character, who has already done several journeys but has taken a break? (so also already has caught Pokémon before but maybe simply started with a new Pokémon or something)

Or is it strictly newbie trainers?

I'm fine with either, just curious XD

And either way, you think you could reserve me a spot?

Oh, nearly forgot, regarding time zones
I live in the Netherlands and seeing as most roleplayers seem to live in the USA, there are some time zone restrictions, if that makes sense
I've had to give up on a couple of promising roleplayes simply because I was unable to be active in the roleplay when others were and vice-versa
So, what is that like here? Are time zone restrictions a problem?

I'll leave the experienced/newbie trainer question to the GM, ColourTheory.

As the Co-GM, I can reserve you a spot. Please note that reservations last for three days.

I'm RP'ing from Turkey and ColourTheory is most probably RP'ing from the Eastern Time Zone in the US. Since its summer, time zones won't be a problem. Right now it's 15:00 where I live and around 8:00am where ColourTheory lives, so there is a large time overlap in which we can all RP.

Hope these help, but if you still aren't sure please do ask ColourTheory :)
