Alright people, I'm sure we've all heard about pokemon black and white 2, and the new Kyurem forms that they have recently revealed (If you've been living like an ostrich look here to get up to speed people XD!)

These new forms look amazing, but they are intriguing as well. At the beginning I thought that maybe kyurem would gain an extra type with its form changes, but then I realized that this was impossible. However, the questions continued to hold me. What if, in Black and White 2, the ability to have THREE types, instead of just two, was introduced? What if Kyurem's forms gained an extra type (probably fire or ice) in addition to the dragon and ice element it possesses? Let me make his clear. I DO NOT think this will happen. I just don't think GameFreak will shake up the game in that way yet. Yet, post your opinions. Would you like to see the introduction of tri-types (regardless of whether you think it will happen)? What implications would this have for competitive battle? How would you restructure your teams to deal with, and possibly include, tri-types? I look forward to see your replies.

Meh, I dunno. It would really make the game much more complicated. Each tri-type Pokémon would have a complex set of weaknesses, resistances, immunities, and such. In addition, some Pokémon might have 8X weaknesses, while others might have 8X resistances.

In battling, I don't know how anyone could juggle all of the STAB, and resisting every single tritype. Some could be relentlessly overpowered, and some could be horribly weak.

While it seems like a good concept, I don't think it could or should happen.

I don't think this will happen. I don't think too many Pokémon would need a third type anyway, assuming they added some third types to other Pokémon, not just White Kyurem and Black Kyurem.

Which of course raises the question of what types those Pokémon will be, but it's not the proper thread for that.

In addition, some Pokémon might have 8X weaknesses, while others might have 8X resistances.

Wouldn't that be about as effective as an immunity anyway? I mean, maybe 1-3 HP off, but for any Pokémon above like level 1 that's negligible.

It would make the game more complicated, but I don't think it would make it too hard to work out which type to use. But if they're going to do it, I think they'll wait until Gen 6, because then they'll have a whole new set of Pokémon to make tri-typed, rather than just one.
I don't think it's ever going to happen, though.

I doubt triple types would happen. It would make things so much more complicated and the battle system would have to be completely changed, this is a game aimed at children afterall, it might be overwhelming to them for Pokemon to have 3 types and not just them but also veteran Pokemon players that are used to the standard battle system where Pokemon have one or two types. I just think it would be more trouble than its worth.

I believe that White/Black Kyurem are definitely Dragon/Ice type Pokemon. I think that they will have abilities that simply give them STAB on Fire/Electric type moves, which effectively gives the same impression as a triple type without all the complications.

Three types for one Pokemon would make the game far more complicated than it needs to be. Dual typing + abilities can already cause headaches for some players. Imagine three types + abilities (Hey guys I'm a Ground/Ghost/Dark type with Levitate!) It would just be a huge mess--and game balance would be thrown off immensely too because you'd have 5 gens worth of single and dual typed Pokemon which would be put at a disadvantage to these horrific three-type abominations.

Let's not make things more complicated than they already are.

I barely tolerated the inclusion of the triple battles but triple types? No, thank you. ._.

I liked the intro of the triple battle. I just didn't like how it was never used. ANYWAY on topic, I knew it would probably never happen, I just wanted to see what others thought

God now... The whole thing is confusing as it is... 3 types is just overkill... hard enough already remeber it as it is... I honestly think Kyurem's forme's will be Ice/Fire and Ice/Electric (those would be epic typings!) And he get's Cold-Flare/Fusion-Flare/Blue-Flare as W-Kyurem and Freeze-Bolt/Fusion-Bolt/Bolt-Strike as B-Kyurem? If he is indeed the fusion of Kyurem and the Yin/Yang twins it would make sense he would have their sig moves (bet he'd move up to Uber pretty quickly)

Ice/Electric is cool, but Fire/Ice is Stealth Rock fodder. If the Reshiram forme gets trolled like that then it will be lucky to see OU yet alone Ubers.

I think that they will be Dragon/Ice, same as the first forme of Kyurem. Its either going to be an ability or a hold item that gives them STAB on the Fire/Electric side. That way they can indeed be Ubers, and not have to introduce triple typings.

No me gusta this idea at all. So would you go back and give all pokemon tritypes or would only certain pokemon get it? Either way, that would put certain pokemon at an advantage/disadvantage. And yeah I know this happens, already, tritypes will prolly just make it more complicated. But for me it's like adding five move spaces; it changes sort of one of the main components of the game.

Well, Ho-Oh has a quadruple Stealth Rock weakness (and it's supposed to be primarily a wall, no less) and it's still Ubers, so maybe a Fire/Ice Reshiram could fall in that tier too. Still, I do see your point and I agree with your prediction that they'll be Ice/Dragon with special abilities that essentially give them Fire/Electric STAB.

That's a no on the tritypes, by the way. It's not only way too complicated a change in and of itself, it would be way too convoluted to just introduce it halfway through a generation. IF they were to do it (here's hoping they never have to,) then it would make more sense to do it at the start of a new generation, not near the end of it.

I'd love to see tritypes - it would be interesting the combo's that they would have! Of course, it would be completely unbalanced unless they changed the way weaknesses and resistances work - which would never happen, but I'd like to see it.

So if you have a Pokemon with a triple weakness to rock and you send it out with Stealth Rocks on the field, would it faint immediately or what?

Of course not. It would be left with 25% of its health, so the attack it switches in on will kill it, but it won't be Stealth Rock.

Now, a Fire/Ice/Bug/Flying type on the other hand...

Oh good god no.

You'd have to have a damn Excel spreadsheet for every battle. The math would be awful (and this is coming from someone who's actually good at math). Think of the children, aka the intended audience. There's no way an eight year old kid could keep track of triple typing. And new players to the series... oh god would I feel for them.

However, it does make an interesting exercise in theory. What would be the best tritype in the game? Dragon/Ice/Steel? Electric/Flying/Steel? Water/Ground/Grass? or Maybe an offensive powerhouse with Fire/Fighting/Ground or Fire/Fighting/Ice (although this one would get fucked to hell by Stealth Rock).

Basically it would turn Pokemon into a thinking man's game. A Smogonite's wet dream for sure, but it would alienate the vast majority of the fanbase. It's not happening.

No way 3 types would be way too confusing. What if you used a move that was strong agasinst one of the types but resisted by 2. Would they just cancel as 1x resistance, it'd be too hard to explain and too much like hard math.

Oh christ, nononono.

There'd eventually be a Rock/Steel/Ghost that would absolutely wreck the game.
