Life got in the way of doing art the last few years, so last year I joined a local art group called the Tuesday Art Circle to encourage myself back into it more regularly.

Since it’s on a Tuesday afternoon everyone else is retired which makes for a lovely, friendly environment and I feel super relaxed lol since I don’t have to interact with people in my own peer group :p

It’s not a class but the others are always happy to teach and share their resources and tips, most have been painting or drawing for multiple decades. So I feel like I’ve improved! I’d never touched watercolour before I joined this group for example and now I feel like I’m starting to get it.

Here’s what I did yesterday:

Wow, not doing great at updating on a Tuesday am I lol.

Anyway I couldn’t go this week because I had a scan, so here’s one from the archives - the first painting I did (using acrylics) when I joined the group! Took me 3 weeks to finish/get fed up.

Hey there firstborn :wynaut::ayeaye:

Omg it’s a Tuesday!!! Ok so I did go to art but I could only stay 30 mins today, so I just had a chinwag with the gang and snooped on everyone else’s art before I had to go.

It’s lovely to work in a communal space and receive everyone’s real-time encouragement and feedback, but it does make it a bit awkward to draw what I’d reeeaaaally like to draw, which is Rockets (duh). I did do one screenshot redraw when I was new and all the old ladies were like “oh how interesting!”

(Can you tell I had no idea how to use watercolour as a medium at this point lol.)

Anyway after that I got embarrassed and now have to save making fanart for private moments snatched at home, which means I’m doing hardly any :p

Another week, another Tuesday art failure, but this time for a noble cause as I’m on holiday

Here’s a very different seaside triptych depicting the miserable Cornish sea in winter, that I call “Two Years in Truro”.

(I spent 2 years in Truro and the winters were hard… Although I will say I had some of the best times as well as the worst in this period, and I often return to the North Cornwall coast in my dreams!)

We’re holding an art exhibition in a couple of weeks. I’m excited because, why not?! I feel like a “proper” artist now hehe - I didn’t do art past Y9 at school, so I’ve never had my work put up anywhere in public. This is one of the paintings I’m going to put up.

I kind of lost the plot by the time I got to the bg, can you tell I still didn’t really get watercolour as a medium lol? But I think the baby turned out nice (I would - I grew it in my own tummy for 9 months!!)

I am really missing my Rockets atm. Like I said before, I feel shy to do fanart at the group anymore, so here's a quick and dirty redraw/paint I did in 30 mins one night when I couldn't sleep. It's based on this little scene I scribbled back when Kukui/Burnet's wedding happened, which was weirdly prescient both of the Z Ring the TRio were gonna eventually get and how serious the Pokeani writers were about shipping Kojiro and Hidoide lol.

Anyway I always loved how Kojiro looked in the final panel so I just got it down on paper with some super messy watercolour. He looks different but still cute...

I mean… it’s not really art, but I did some cheeky fake Kintsugi this week whilst recovering from the exhibition over the weekend (which was amazing btw, my elderly friends are all SO TALENTED! I thought we all just sat together pretending to paint but chatting and drinking tea but no, they are more productive than me… But even I sold a little painting hehe.)

So anyway my son accidentally broke the ceramic cover of the oil diffuser that has been repurposed as his nightlight. Proper kintsugi with the gold-mixed-lacquer is of course real art but not sure my patch job of superglue and messy gold acrylic (applied with one eye on the tv lol) actually counts :p

Such a warm painting, I think this captures the emotion really well!

Ah thank you! I've been a TRio fan for so many years but I think I only fell in love with Kojiro through Hidoide's eyes lol, not sure what that says about me :hmm:

My MIL bought me some lovely acrylics for Christmas and my sister got me a fantastic easel for my birthday, which I’ve finally cracked out and (for once!) actually did some painting in art today.

This one’s still a WIP but I am so excited that I’m actually sharing today’s work on this thread, on a Tuesday so… why not.

This painting is based on a photo taken in Jasper, Canada on my honeymoon. Those 2 weeks (Banff -> Vancouver -> Alaskan glaciers) I was exposed to such a glut of natural beauty that it made me sometimes feel physically sick with longing.

This doesn’t look very Canadian yet, but maybe it will once I’ve added some snow and pines lol :p

Yay it’s Tuesday again!

My husband’s off work this week so I dragged him along to art with me. He hasn’t really done any art since the age of 14 at school, but I think he enjoyed playing with the watercolours. It is just a lovely meditative exercise.

Meanwhile I did some more fiddling with my mountain scene:

It looks really different lighting-wise to the last photo, I think just because I photographed it in cloud rather than sun…

Anyway I’m not sure I like the snow (and I really loathe that field) but the nice thing about acrylic is you can keep fiddling until you’re finished or fed up so I’ll keep playing next week.

One of the granddads wants me to add a boat for interest, but that is guaranteed to wreck it (because I cannot draw boats…) I might add a couple of little figures to the path instead.

I am disappointed in myself for not checking those earlier! Those are wonderful pieces! I am even a little jelly of how you can portray backgrounds with variety anv vivacity like that! And the little toddler! I would pinch those cheeks in a second if I could, haha!
My sincerest praises to you, fellow! Genuinely wonderful! :yay:

Last time I’m posting this one, I promise! 3 weeks’ work is enough - I’m done lol. But happy overall with how it’s turned out!

I’d restricted my colour palette to one red, one blue and one yellow plus white, and then I’d been struggling with getting some texture and contrast in the trees without having access to a black. Turns out the answer (to this and so many things) is add more blue. Oh and don’t forget to add flowers cuz, why not.

That being said maybe I should learn to paint flowers because I actually have no idea how. Some of the people in the art circle do beautiful flowers so I’m sure I can learn by osmosis a bit!

(My granddad friend was still trying to persuade me to add a boat even as I was packing up my stuff haha.)

Ah sorry I forgot this week… Though tbh I didn’t get much done - we had two new members joining so I spent some time getting to know them and then… spent the rest of the time chatting to everyone else lol.

My sister wants me to do a painting for her house and has bought me an inconveniently huge canvas to do so (A2!) with a rather complicated reference pic. So I just sketched out an outline this week.

IMG_0310.webp

She’s now told me she wants one set of lemons to be replaced by a cat!!! I’m also on a strict deadline to finish before I give birth early December. Talk about demanding… (I suppose that’s what sisters are for eh :p)
