This Uruto-focused two-parter is great! It really establishes him as a character in Pokémon Horizons, and lets us see why he pursues a path of strength. It’s just that Uruto’s goal had been vague from his standpoint, because he didn’t fully understand or grasp what being the strongest meant. To him, it probably meant seeking out the strongest Pokémon, which was why he was in pursuit of the Black Rayquaza like Roy. However, his idea of strength was more for himself at first, which was why the Dragon Rampage Gang kept kicking him out on their bikes. He only realized that strength comes from being with others when Roy came to rescue him, realizing that someone does have his back. I feel like Uruto’s father might be the sole reason why he pursues the idea of being the strongest—either his father is dead, or something happened to him that caused Uruto to become the way he is.

The tag battle between Roy and Uruto versus Indy and Rubella was quite nice! It feels like this has been the toughest Indy and Rubella have been since their debut. They were a lot more strategic and calculative this time around compared to their previous battles, where they just used the Strong Spheres and hoped for a win. I do like that since Indy and Rubella were using multiple Pokémon, Roy and Uruto do the same with Roy using his entire team, and Uruto only using his Sableye at first. The boys were also being a bit strategic, with how Roy told Uruto to make his Sableye use Shadow Sneak, as shadows aren’t affected by gravity. The twist with their Rabsca knowing Revival Blessing was so good. Still, it was so nice to see the boys triumph over them with the help of Mega Dragonite. Mega Dragonite looks so nice in the anime! I feel like the color schemes of the anime really helps to make the design pop out more than the 3D render! I love how bewildered everyone was when they learned a Dragonite could Mega Evolve too. It does make me wonder how these new Mega Evolutions came to be lore-wise. I wonder if they’ll be explained later on, especially since there will be a special mini-arc in October about Roy’s time in Kalos.

My favorite character Spinel shows up once again in this episode. His words about waiting at the right time to nip at his enemies does seem ominous. He also knows about Hamber’s actions. What I really like is that Spinel pulls no punches when it comes to his enemies. He doesn’t care if they’re children, only that they're getting in the way of him pursuing his goals. With him putting the Six Heroes in boxes and moving them elsewhere, it does make me wonder what his ultimate goal is…

Diana and Hamber also show up in this episode. It seems that Hamber has given updates on the situation regarding the Explorers and the Rising Volt Tacklers. Since they consider Amethio and Liko as the keys to stopping Spinel, Diana’s reappearance does definitely have to do something with training Liko. The Pokémon Diana caught meanwhile seems to be the Wash Rotom that appears in the preview of the next episode.

Speaking of the preview, can’t Murdock just narrate the rest of them from now on? The way he dramatizes Diana’s comeback was so good! He could be a professional! It really make me excited for next week! By the way, I liked how there’s a little double meaning behind this week's episode title. While the title translates to “Two People, As Friends”, the word “futari” (ふたり) can mean anything that revolves around a pair. The two could be Roy and Uruto, who have reconciled and solidified their friendship, but it could also mean Uruto and Dragonite becoming friends. Let me know your thoughts on this episode!

I’m sorry I have little of substance to say about the episode itself or the review (though I do read these reviews often and enjoy them!) I just had to pop in and say that I can’t not read the sentence “bonds make you strong” in Scott Pilgrim’s disbelieving voice from the garlic bread scene
