Two questions about Platinum

How much do you use the stylus screen in the beginning of Platinum? Is it sparingly/can it be done without and instead use my finger or something? I don't have a stylus currently and no stores around here sell the official Nintendo styluses, so I have to order them off nintendo.com to get them and I'm not sure how long it'll take to arrive in the mail.

How soon into the game can one reach the TV producer on the third floor of Jubilife TV in Jubilife city? Do you have to beat any gyms, or do anything serious like that? I ask because I'm interested in obtaining the Secret Key from the event, but as this is my first Pokemon experience since gold/silver/crystal, I'd like to take it slow to get accustomed to everything new.

P.S. The only reason I am concerned with buying the official Nintendo styluses is because I've read reviews online that say the official styluses are flat-out superior and better than non-Nintendo styluses, but I am a little mistrusting of the reviews I have read so if anyone has any comments on non-Nintendo styluses and official Nintendo styluses it'd be very helpful and appreciated - they both cost about the same so that is not an issue, it is just the quality. DS Lite, by the way

You can use your finger but that would smudge the screen. Of course, you can simply use the d-pad and buttons as well and never touch the lower screen. Except when in the Underground and the like.

As mentioned, I'd just use the d-pad until you can get a stylus. You don't really need to use the touch screen for like 99% of the game. Just don't make poffins or go underground until then, haha. ;D

Jubilife-TV concerns, well. From what I can remember, a clown is blocking the door to the building when you first enter town. I think you just have to proceed through some plot events and Team Galactic things to clear the door, but I honestly don't remember 100%. I hope someone has a better answer. I just remember that it doesn't take long, and there's no gym to defeat.

As for styluses, I just go by this logic: if it's made by Nintendo, they know what they're doing (we hope) since they made the DS. Made by another company, maybe they're missing something. It's possible. This has happened to me with 528922 brands of screen protectors, so er, maybe styluses are relateable. They're about the same price, so I'd say stick with the official brand.

Thanks to both of you. :) I wasn't sure if there were parts of the beginning of the game that were stylus-dependent or not, but if I can manage my way through a little using the d-pad that is absolutely fine by me.

As for Jubilife TV/etc: Yes it appears you are right, Destry. I looked up a walkthrough and it mentioned one of the clowns being in front of Jubilife TV, and from the skimming I did of the Jubilife city section (trying not to spoil much) it didn't seem like it would take long so it's all cool.

Thanks again, much appreciated!

Use another pen-like object that you can use without smearing ink on your screen like maybe i dunno, a pen with a cap on it? You dont need a stylus for the most part of the game and if you're at a point when you do need one, just use a pen.

I use my husbands old original DS. They don't make stylists for it anymore, and I'm really bad at loosing the darn things! So I use a mechanical pencil without the lead. Works great!

I also use the smudge/scratch proof 'sticker' you can buy for them, they work great! I can't tell you how many times it's saved my butt.

As for your Jubilife question you have to beat the first gym, and then go back to jubilife, complete an unmissable event scene, then you're all set.

shining: Yeah, I got the game yesterday/earlier today and had figured that out! No problem, since I ending up getting the game before the event even has started.

I've just been using my fingers for the screen. It does just fine so far and it's faster than using the d-pad, when the touchscreen gets too smudge-y I just clean it off.. maybe I'll have to use a stylus for the underground like some people have warned but I'm sure by the time I get there the mail will have come.

So...if you smudge the screen...just clean it...not that difficult to do.

I use my finger and nothing bad has happened. I only use my stylus for RNG work.
