Personally, I don't get it why Gyarados, a Water/Flying Pokemon, is weak against Rock-Type attacks, even though its being a Water-type should supposedly cover its weakness against Rock-type.

On Tyranitar's case, I've also noticed in the Wiki that it's weak against Bug attacks, even though its being a Rock-type should've covered its weakness against Bugs.

Please elaborate why this is the case.

PS: I don't know if this was already covered in the past; I haven't been in the boards in a while. ^^;

It may be that way because Gastly and Haunter are Pokemon that appear to be floating, while Gengar doesn't, it is in the same evolution line, which makes sense. But there are many exceptions to this rule. I think having a consistent ability in Levitate for this evolutionary line may be due to the fact that Poison has a crippling weakness to Ground (Earthquake anyone?).

It's kind of odd, but according to Serebii, Rock vs Water and Bug vs Rock have the same things in common: the latter does twice the damage to the former, but the latter doesn't actually have an immunity to the former. Other than the obvious "because they programmed it that way," I have no idea why, sorry. Same's true of Normal vs Fighting, Fire vs Ground, and Flying vs Ice.
