gah!
I hope not
I was hoping for a few more years of DS

it would make sense to couple a DS successor with Gen V though

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

There is only one thing I will say smells in this. Inside people. I do not doubt it is possible to have inside connections, but I doubt they would let too many in on such a big secret.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

It'll be interesting to see if Gen V's lifecycle will be cut short if they want to put Gen 6 on the DS2.

Although I suppose they'll give it the usual 4-year lifespan.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

If the DS2 is technologically improved enough, maybe we'll get the Orre/Stadium type game on a handheld for once. That would be pretty cool, to have the main game and the console-type game on the same line of systems.

Half Gen V could be on DS and other half for the sucessor, could still work that way as I hgly doubt the connectivity between DS and this new console is going to be that much different.

Anyway, I am not going to believe this until its confirmed. I mean what about the DSi LX coming out soon?

Right now, unless its confirmed to be true, I am staying skeptical for now. I am not doibting such a sucessor will come, just that late 2010 or early 2011 seems a little early thats all.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

Gen V might be short like Gen II. Though, gen II was supposted to be on GB but was moved to GBC.

And it is possible about the DS2 being early. After all, there is supposted to be a new system according to the usual console cycle.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

I just hope that Gen V is on the original DS, I like my DS Phat and don't want to buy a new system to play the new Pokemon game. But wasn't Gen V confirmed for the DS anyway?

Especially when I doubt I'll be able to afford a unit that will likely cost $180. I believe that this is true... but we won't be seeing the actual unit until at least November, probably later.

Plus side about the new unit: Its games will support WPA2 security. If it doesn't, then I'm probably not buying it... unless a lot of good games come out for it. But, really, we don't need a new handheld since they've redesigned the DS three times already.

I wonder if this news story is because of me.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

mmmmmm, a DS with better hardware... I just hope its not too expensive

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

Another rumor about the DS2 with not details whatsoever... fun.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

^But this one has had a wider spreding, not to mention that it involves companies developing for it instead of your usual: "DS2 is coming and nothing more". The Pokémon Company the first one to get a developer kit? As far as I know, the don't develop games, they just publish them. Still, this makes me think Gen V is coming for the successor and not the current DS/i in a similar way to how Star Fox Adventures/Dinosaur Planet was transferred from the N64 to the Game Cube and TLoZ:Twilight Princess from GCN to Wii. I hope I'm wrong, I don't wanna buy a new handheld in the nest few years.

On the other hand, we've never had a Pokémon main series game for launch, not to mention that usually it passes one or two years between a console/handheld announcement and its final launch, so there's still the possibility that Gen V's Versions will come out for the DS and then in 2011 the new handheld will come out with a Pokemon spin-off as a launch tittle (after all, the rumour clearly says "The Pokémon Company", not "Game Freak")

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

Thing is, if they want to have good games for the new console, they would already have to know what the new console was capable of and then build a game for it. But from what we know they have made a game but only just now got a kit for the new console.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

Yes, Gen V has been in the works for years, I'm fairly sure.

I'm betting we'll get Dash 2 or something for the new system. Maybe Snap 2. But not a new gen entirely.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

It's been made pretty clear that at least the usual first 2 versions of Gen V is being released on the DS. If anything, what they could possibly do is make the third version for the DS successor. That way, they could add ALOT more stuff onto the third version since it'd be on a more technologically advanced handheld. From what I understand, they kinda did the same thing with the Gen 2 games, Gold and Silver for the Gameboy and Crystal for the Gameboy Color. If they've done something like that before, I don't see why they can't do it again with Gen V.

You have a point. Hopefully by then I'll be in college and will be able to get the new system without parental approval.

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

I don't see why everyone thinks that the DS2 being released would kill Gen V. GBA didn't kill Gen II. RSE were two years away from the GBA's launch, which was at the same time Crystal came out, only a year after GS.

If the DS2 is really the DS2, it's 99.9% certain to have backwards compatibility with the DS's games, just like Gen V, being for the DS like Gen IV is, is 99.9% likely to be compatible with them in some manner.

I mean, really, the only times a Nintendo handheld has removed compatibility was the DS, which killed connection to the GB and GBC, which no one played anymore, and the DSi, a subset of the DS series that took off the GBA port... which no one plays anymore. I bet at least the first iteration of the DS2 will have compatibility with the DS, and considering the size of the DS's cards, I doubt Nintendo's gonna go much smaller, if they go smaller at all.

I agree, I was hoping the DS would last a few more years.. They already had the DSi come out.. now this "DS2" I dont even like the idea of a tilt function, it just complicates things even more! x.x

Re: Unconfirmed: DS successor development kits reportedly distributed to several deve

All I can say is I hope this better not mean that they rush through Gen V so they can get out Gen IV on this new console with their gimmicky features and whatnot.
