Underpowered Attacks

Just curious, but what are some attacks in the games that you just think are underpowered considering the anime or just pure logic


I think the most infamous attack would be fire spin

its always so awesome in the anime, and lets face it, its a giant vortex of burning fire, that gotta do damage!!

In the games, it sucks, except gen 1 where the opponent was actually trapped and couldnt use attacks.

Any others?
 
For me, it's any attack that does half the damage on an opponent that resists it that can still send them flying in the anime and cause them to be seriously hurt.

Of course, I think Pound might count, especially when Ash's Sceptile was able to use it to fend off May's Blaziken's Blaze-powered Blaze Kick in mid-air.
 
Whirlpool, it seems to be effective in the anime and you think it would do more damage than what it does.
 
My Rapidash's flamethrower is actually pretty sucky...

And thundershock in the anime used to always send TR blasting off again, now it's like getting shocked by a doorknob in the games.
 
Fire spin and whirlpool as already mentioned. But my personal one is Bullet seed, it's rubbish in the games, but is really powerful in the anime, even against steel or ice types. Seriously, a Carnivine using bullet seed would have no effect on a Glaile, well not really.

Oh and the other things are water type moves like water gun, that make an explosion when they make contact with anything. WOW

EDIT:Oh and in Giratina and the Sky warrior, whirlpool whiping out all those Magneton and Magenzone is unlikely, as well as Piplup's Bubble beam doing quite a bit of damage to Giratina. Finally, will o wisp, its not an attack it just causes a burn, but in the anime and movie, it looks really powerful and does a hell of a lot of damage, and doesn't seem to cause anyone a burn. LOL
 
What about pound? I remember when Ash used Sceptile against Mays Blaizken and its pound looked quite powerful as it does when a chansey or jigglypuff uses it.
 
I agree on the call on Fire Spin. It looks totally bad ass in the show, but it's a little pile of nothing in the game. You'd do more damage spitting on the pokemon from 10 feet away than with Fire Spin.

Also, with the calls on Pound, I think that problem's been fixed with the Technician ability, though Treeko beating a Blaziken's Blaze powered Fire Kick with a Pound attack is BS.
 
Ive always liked how when two attacks collide there is always an explosion, even if its two water guns, why cant it be like that in the game!!
 
The thing about the anime making attacks more powerful than they are is stupid but I guess they want appealing move like fire spin and whirl pool instead of the same old flamethrower and water gun. And how come a fire attack and a water attack collide with each other? Wouldn't the water extinguish the fire.
 
Dragon rage, big time.

It's practically deadly in the anime, yet in the game it only does 40 points of damage. wtf?
 
Judgment. In the movie, it was like artillery (albeit one that shot paper missiles) that fired way up in the sky and hit all over the town. But in the games, it's fixed placed.

Depending on the heat of the fire and the coolness of the water, it would make steam rather than one beating the other if things were equal which would justify a small explosion.

In the end, making even the lamest of attacks look bad ass is what keeps people glued to the tv. Heck, I think I remember a tail whip attack actually being used offensively in the show and I was thinking "well that makes more sense than what it does in the damn game!"
 
A lot of the status moves are more useful in the anime. I remember Larvitar's Screech (in Master Quest) stopped everyone dead on their tracks, and moves like Defense Curl and Withdraw seem to often block the foe's attack completely.

I like the way they're portrayed in the anime, though, they seem so much more realistic and all the moves can be used in more than one way.

I seem to remember Psyduck using tail whip to roughly the same effect.
 
Constrict is the single most useless move (that does something) in the game.

Base power of 10, only a 10% chance to lower speed, nobody gets STAB on it (except for Smeargle).

Actually, Hyper Beam's power is rather inconsistent in the anime.

Gary's Nidoqueen was able to OHKO Tauros with it, then we get Chimchar going up against Glalie in recent episodes, who gets Hyper Beamed several times by aforementioned Glalie, even getting blasted into the air by Glalie from point-blanks range, but still keeps getting up coupled with being Gyro-Balled repeatedly.

One of my beefs with how Hyper Beam is shown in the anime is how its after-effect is so inconsistent, ranging from having to recharge to being able to fight with other moves right after firing.
