I've recently been playing Black 1 again, and I decided to bust out my old DSi to play it on- get the proper resolution and all that compared to my 3DS XL, since the Unova games look fantastic. And I am convinced my DSi is showing me its disdain for not using it in over a decade. I have been subject to Crits and Flinches with such unusual frequency, that I was marking down every time one happened on my Bluesky by posting a single word from the Lavos' Copypasta whenever RNG flipped me the bird. On top of that, yesterday, before I fought Brycen, I learned that my Galvantula has ZERO Sp.Atk IVs. Downright awful.

And a few months ago, when I was playing Pokemon Colosseum for the first time (fantastic game btw) any Fire Type I had in my party just seemed like a magnet for Crits. It took quite a while to purify poor Quilava and Slugma because they kept getting oneshot by Crits. And then Entei just carried that curse the rest of the run.

Anyone else have a singular unlucky moment that's stuck with them? Or just an onslaught of terrible luck that hung over you like a stormcloud?

I've been on the receiving end of several self destructive shinies throughout my life lol. I think the first time I successfully caught one was earlier this year when I caught a Graveler in Platinum.

In general, I've never been lucky with Gengar. I usually like Squishy Wizards but I keep getting the squishiest Gengars. I love the Gengar on my Z-A team, but he might be the weakest link on my team. He kept getting KO'd by Furfou's Crunch when I was hunting for Alpha Clefairy despite being like 20 levels higher then them. ;o;

I remember when the isle of armor came out for the first time; I had switched out all of my team members from the main game to catch pokemon as I went to make a new team. At the time, I had only a Galarian Slowpoke at half health or so. Ended up around the Tower of Darkness area and ran into the Lycanroc that spawns there, which happened to be shiny.

iiiit killed slowpoke and I blacked out and lost it

I ended up soft reset hunting for a shiny midnight lycanroc as opposed to midday and ended up catching it, so all's well that ends well I suppose

I found a shiny Starly in the Great Marsh. I threw some bait and it ran away. I wish I'd just thrown a ball, Starly has a high catch rate so I probably would have caught it first try.

When I transferred my trusty Blaziken from Emerald to Generation 6, I realized he had a Calm Nature and 0 Attack IVs. I've never worried too much about stats so it didn't bother me, but I still think it was pretty funny. I never noticed him underperforming in Emerald because I mostly used Blaze Kick which relies on the Special Attack stat in that game.

Back in 2016 when I was replaying Platinum, I somehow lost the first battle with the rival. That was an unlucky moment I'll never forget.

And when I played the Delta Episode in Omega Ruby, while trying to catch Deoxys, my Druddigon got a critical and knocked it out. I reset the game, but I had to catch Rayquaza again and do the battle with Zinnia a second time. Not difficult, but somewhat annoying.

Speaking of, I almost lost to the tutorial Cheren fight in this playthrough of Black. I genuinely would've, had they used Tackle instead of Leer when my Oshawott was a hit away from being knocked out.

I caught a Shiny Wooper in the Great Marsh in Diamond, I dunno if I just balled or threw bait/rock, just that I almost caused a car crash because of catching her.

Damn that sucks. I want a shiny Lycanroc Dusk but, the whole deal with Own Tempo Rockruffs does not make the ordeal appealing to me.

Legends Arceus doesn't have Self-KO moves iirc, just 50% of your HP as recoil. While I was hunting Shiny Goomy/Teddiursa/Petilil for a challenge a friend issued me, one of the guaranteed Graveler spawns was shiny.

Right not it would be the Gimmighoul rifts. Need to get one more and the special scans have not delivered thus far. It then gave me fire twice in a row.

I don't know if this counts as unlucky, but I was playing LeafGreen for awhile and lost so much progress because my game froze in the burned mansion and my dumbass forget to save. Hours of levelling up....gone. This was over a decade ago, but I'm still burned by that.

Shiny fails: seeing a shiny Nidorina in the Safari zone. It ran from me! Because I threw a rock. I was a dumb child.

A Shiny Noctowl in HeartGold...I had no Pokeballs left. Soft reset over that failure tho and same day got a Shiny Drowzee. Even still, that shiny fail was wild. Finding a shiny Noctowl on Route 2, I didn't even get it.

Shiny Zubat when I was with that evil Mira kid!! She used Psychic on Kadabra, bye bye Zubat! I will never forgive Mira, she's on the list.

Shiny Togepi in Legends Arceus despawned during a mass mass outbreak was very sad.

Lucky Egg Hunting went dramatically unlucky for me it took me two days... you know what's funny about this though? Whilst looking for a Lucky Egg (bc I really wanted to finish my HG pokedex) I found two shinies QUICKER THAN I FOUND EVEN ONE LUCKY EGG. Two. Shinies. a Skiploom and a Nidorino, can you believe that? I had to have caught at least 30 or even more Chanseys before finding a single Lucky Egg while looking for one. (that same week I also found a Shiny Magikarp in SoulSilver but anyway...)

Also, Losing to Brandon in Emerald after I got all the way to the end... those Regis, i s2g.

Saw a trainer with a Shiny Barboach in the Battle Palace. I was so mad about it, I soft reset over it, rofl.

Unlucky moments in the Battle Factory as well. Maybe just the Battle Frontier in general bc all of that is rng you never know what Pokemon you'll be facing there because it's all random no matter the facility.

There are a bunch of shinies that I lost, but those are not very interesting so I'll go with this instead.
More being dumb than unlucky, but during my first playthrough of White my ace was an Audino.
I found the TM for Fling, and decided to teach it to him, as it seemed cool and I'd never used the move before. I went into a random wild encounter, and used it.
Now I assumed that the item would disappear for the battle, but would be given back to me when the battle was over.
I was wrong.
Audino was holding the EXP share, and I didn't realise for some time, I stopped playing and saved the game. I realised the mistake I had made the next day, but it was too late, and at the time I didn't know that you could get another at the battle company.
Always avoided Fling ever since :[

I guess my unlucky expierence would be playing Hoenn via bootleg cartridges. One of which actually never saved the game so every time I started a new game, picked a starter, set off for the next town and then had to turn the game off for school, bed, bath or anything else and them came back to it later I would always be greeted by Professor Birch meaning all the progress was lost and I had to redo the cycle all over.

I eventually just got rid of them after a while.
