So a while ago I posted some maps I'd made of Johto, Kanto and the Sevii islands, all done as full, complete overhead maps in Generation II style. I did the entire regions, filling in the blank spaces between routes and caves, connecting rivers and basically making the geography complete as if they were areas you could actually visit in-game. Don't ask me why, I just thought it'd be fun to recreate a couple of regions in Generation II tileset. It's my favourite gen, so why not.
Anyway, recently I started wondering if I could recreate the gen 3, 4 and 5 regions in Generation II mapstyle. I dismissed Hoenn pretty quickly as I don't think it's possible - Hoenn is just too complex and some areas like Fortree City would be all but impossible to create just using a Gen II tileset. So I decided to do Sinnoh, which has proved a lot easier - granted I've had to simplify some areas like the Cycling Road and Sunyshore City, but on the whole it looks good and reasonably like Sinnoh would probably look if you could visit it in GSC.
So next up is Unova, but I'm not convinced it's worth doing - maybe Unova is just too much for Gen II graphics. Most of the cities and routes could be reasonably recreated without much difficulty. Even though Castelia City seems like it'd be the trickiest area to map, I don't think it would be too difficult, as the layout of the city isn't hard to recreate. The areas I foresee trouble with are Nimbasa's fairground area, Anville Town, and all the bridges. There's probably some others too. How could the Gen II tileset mimic these areas without looking completely horrible? As far as I'm aware, Gen II doesn't have any bridge tiles that look nearly impressive enough to double as the Skyarrow Bridge.
So my question to anyone reading this is: can this be done? How would you do it? What areas and tiles from GSC would you use to recreate a Ferris wheel, or the Tubeline Bridge? I'm interested in hearing people's opinions.
Also, if you're interested in seeing the maps I've made of Johto, Kanto, Sinnoh and the Sevii Islands, feel free to message me.

R - is it possible to recreate the Unova region using the Generation II tileset?
