Playthroughs Unovia's Galar "Gym Leader Ace" Run

Log #GL30-Which Tower? (Isle of Armor)
600px-0891Kubfu.webp
I got Kubfu to Level 24, where it learned Brick Break. From there, I went to Galar Mine and focused on fighting Galarian Stunfisk, adding fish to the diet of the little bear. Once I got Kubfu to Level 33, I went back to the Isle of Armor.

Kubfu Towers
I looked at the map, considering which tower I wanted to take my Kubfu to. I ended up going to The Tower of Darkness since the last time I took this on (my first Galar Playthrough), I had done The Tower of Waters.

I battled with Kubfu through the Tower of Darkness, earning the ability to have him evolve. Urshifu (Level 34) is Fighting and Dark.

Having done this task, I prepared to work my way to Hammerlocke. In the next Log, we will make our way there. Until the next time, we will see you!

Thus Ends Season 1!

Welcome To Season 2!
It took me a bit to figure out how to get from Motostoke to Hammerlocke. These areas of Wild Area are quite difficult to figure out the best way to cross. Hop made it seem easy, but it really wasn't. The Galar Map is hard to figure out, but I did watch a bit of a video to get me started. Still, I figured out, eventually, how to get to Hammerlocke.

I ran into Bede, who was frustrated that I was even in the same league with him. Whatever, you ego trip.

In the next Log, we will discuss Hammerlocke. Until the next time, we will see you!

Hammerlocke
I explored the large city of Hammerlocke. Here, I met with quite a few people. These were Rose and Oleana, Hop, Leon, and Sonia. Sonia was there to study about the legends of Galar. I also met Raihan, who is the Gym Leader of Hammerlocke and Leon's rival.

On a much more depressing meeting, I met a little girl who gave me an old letter for her friend in Ballonlea. After resting for a time, I decided to travel onto Route 6.

In the next Log, we will discuss our experience on Route 6. Until the next time, we will see you!

Route 6
This Route between Hammerlocke and Stow-On-Side was tricky to travel, full of ladders and desert locations. Opal, the Gym Leader of Ballonlea, happened to be here as well. On Route 6, we did some battles. Team Yell stopped us a little bit, but we chased them off.

It took a while to explore the area, but we safely made it to Stow-On-Side. In the next Log, we will discuss our experience at Stow-On-Side. Until the next time, we will see you!

The wild area's map is so awful lol. How on earth are you supposed to navigate if the map won't tell you where in an area you even are?
I agree. I have basically figured out that, for the vast majority of the Wild Area, it seems that you should move the opposite direction of the direction you would think (right instead of left, left instead of right, etc.). It feels like if the Distortion World existed in the regular overworld.

Stow-On-Side
At Level 34, I crossed to Stow-On-Side. This desert town doesn't have much, but it is home to the 4th Gym, run by Bea (Sword) or Allister (Shield). I explored the city, checking out the stalls. I knew Hop was here to battle me, but I decided to wait for a little bit.

I also know there is a trade here, a Maractus for a Hattenna. Honestly, I thought I would have to do this trade before I was able to get Hattenna in Motostoke Outskirts. I plan to do the trade anyway.

In the next Log, we will trade a cactus for a witch. Until the next time, we will see you!

Stow-On-Side
It took me a little bit to find the man who would trade a Maractus for Hattenna. In order to get a Maractus, I went back to the Wild Area to catch one (I later figured out I could have just stepped onto Route 6 to catch one). Anyway, this Hattenna (Level 30) got placed in my box.

Route 6
I decided to go train my Team to Level 36.

Main Team:

Rillaboom
G-Linoone (still can't figure out Obstagoon yet).
Centiskorch
Alcremie
Drednaw
G-Slowpoke

Second Team:
Venusaur
Eldegoss
Coalossal
Machoke
Haunter
Hatterem
Morgrem
Urshifu

Since I am trained up for the fight against Bea, I decided to set up a Team of 4 for her Gym. This Team is going to be:
Morgrem
G-Slowpoke
Hattrem
Alcremie

Alcremie should be the star, but we will see.

When I was ready, I battled Hop with my Main Team. Rillaboom took out his Cramorant (Level 28), Sillicobra (Level 30) and Drizzile (Level 33), while Slowpoke took out his Toxel (Level 29).

I set up to take on Bea. In the next Log, we will do so. Until the next time, we will see you!

To get Obstagoon, you need to level Galarian Linoone above level 35 at night. During the main story, the day/night cycle only functions normally when you're in the wild area; everywhere else it's always day or always night, depending on what the story needs.

Guess I will be headed to the Wild Area. That sucks, considering I was playing at night and it was locked into Day.
Thanks for the information.

Stow-On-Side Gym
The Gym Trial was very difficult, and I needed help to do it. I got it from my Mom, who actually likes puzzle like challenges without dealing with the battles, so I took on the Gym Trainers. That puzzle is not easy for the physically disabled, like myself.

Anyway, I picked the following Pokemon Team for the Gym:
Alcremie
G-Slowpoke
Hattrem
Morgrem

Before I took on Bea, my Team of 4 hit Level 37. I then decided to train the rest of the Pokemon in my Boxes I could use to get to the same point. Then, I went to take on Bea.

Vs. Bea
Because Morgrem only has Dark Type moves right now, I was effectively only running with 3 Pokemon. Bea gave me a challenge, surprisingly.

Starting out, Bea sent out Hitmontop (Level 34) against Slowpoke (Klara). Klara fired off a Psychic, which only did about half. Hitmontop fired back with a Revenge, which did a bit of damage. One more Psychic took out Hitmontop.

Next for Bea was Pangoro (Level 34), and I sent out Alcremie (Opal). Opal fired off a Dazzling Gleam, which OHKOed Pangoro. Nice and easy. I switched out Alcremie for Hattrem (Bede) to take on her Sirfetch'd (Level 35).

Bede was slow, so Sirfetch'd used Detect, then began to use Brutal Swing against Dazzling Gleam attacks. Thinking I could potentially outspeed with Psybeam, I kept Hattrem in. Big mistake. One more Brutal Swing took out Bede. Sirfetch'd then faced Klara. Klara took a Brutal Swing, then fired back with Psychic, beating Sirfetch'd. My Team was still not in a good place.

Lastly for Bea was Machamp (Level 36). I switched back to Opal. The two Pokemon went big, and while Alcremie was hit by Max Strike and Max Chi Strike, two Max Starfall attacks ended Machamp, giving me the win over Bea.

Wasn't as clean as I would have liked, but I managed to beat her, earning me the 4th Gym Badge. As I left the Gym, I ran into Sonia, who went to investigate an explosion nearby. I plan to join her shortly.

In the next Log, we will check out that explosion and then make out way through Glimwood Tangle on our way to Ballonlea. Until the next time, we will see you!

Before I continued to this part of the story, I got my Galarian Linoone to Obstagoon! Finally!

Stow-On-Side
Turns out, the person that was responsible for the explosion was Bede, who was looking to destroy some ancient sacred art. He apparently did this to impress Chairman Rose. Rose was not impressed, stripping the endorsement from Bede, who could no longer participate in the Gym Challenge.

Behind the art, there was another historic statue, one that featured two dogs, one of which had a sword and the other had a shield. Sonia was excited to study it.

For me, my biggest interest was to move onto Glimwood Tangle.
800px-Glimwood_Tangle_anime.webp
Glimwood Tangle
I made my way through this forest, defeating all of the trainers and passing through without much issue. The glowing mushrooms were very pretty. One of my favorite places in Galar. It wasn't long before I was in Ballonlea.

In the next Log, we will discuss Ballonlea. Until the next time, we will see you!

Ballonlea
Not much happened in the city. I delivered a letter from a girl in Hammerlocke to an older man in Ballonlea. Turns out, the girl was a ghost, and the man was much older. Turns out, the girl had been his friend when they were much younger. She had died, and he had moved away. Such a strange thing.

Looking forward to the Ballonlea Gym, I admit, I was a bit worried. I know that Opal, the Gym Leader, is a Fairy Type Gym Leader. I don't have many good options for facing a Fairy Type Gym. I have no Poison Type moves, while I only have one Pokemon with a Steel Type move (Iron Head). That Pokemon is my Fighting and Dark Type Urshifu.

Doing some research, I found that I could go catch and use a Cufant. Cufant would be at Bridge Field, in the Wild Area, on Sunny Days.

Bridge Field, Wild Area
Traveling from Hammerlocke, I slowly made my way to Bridge Field. Luckily, the sun was out, and I managed to catch a Cufant (Level 28), which I named Peony.

I decided to go train my Pokemon in my Boxes to Level 42. This will allow my Hattrem to Hatterene, Morgrem to Grimmsnarl, and Cufant to Copperajah (Level 34), also getting Heavy Slam.

Glimwood Tangle
I am now using Glimwood Tangle to train. It won't take me long to train, since many of the Pokemon are higher level. My Team against Opal is uncertain at this time, since I can only carry 4 Pokemon into this battle. In the next Log, we will go face Opal. Until the next time, we will see you!

I find it ironic. Even if we were not there to watch Bede destroy that mural, he still would have been removed from the Gym Challenge. We had nothing to do with it. It was his own fault. Us being there had no bearing on what happened to him.

Though it is possible that Rose would not have been there if not for us and especially Sonia, who was driven to research based on our actions regarding the Hero.

Honestly, it's hard to say.

Ballonlea Gym
The Gym Test was Opal choosing her successor. She is 88 Years old (probably the oldest Gym Leader ever!), and feels like she doesn't have much time left or something. Turns out, she has been Gym Leader for 70 Years. Has to be some record, right?

Anyway, I took Mustard the Urshifu and Peony the Copperajah into battle with the aspiring successors. Both of them easily swept the trainers, winning me the honorary title of successor and the ability to challenge Opal herself.

Before I took her on, I changed my Team, placing Urshifu back in the box and taking out Bede the Hatterene, Kabu the Centiscorch, and Gordie the Coalossal, while moving Peony the Copperajah to the 4th slot in the Team.

Vs. Opal
She opened with Galarian Weezing (Level 36) and I opened with Bede. Because Hatterene is so slow, Weezing was able to strike with Sludge, doing moderate damage. Hatterene fired back with Psycho Cut, doing a majority of damage back. One more exchange and Weezing was out.

Next for Opal was Mawile (Level 36), and I sent out Kabu. Not knowing how much damage I would do to Mawile, I decided to set up a Fire Spin. Surprisingly, I did a majority of damage to Mawile, and I thought, perhaps, that I wouldn't have to actually attack. I ended up finishing Mawile with Flame Wheel, beating Mawile.

Third for Opal was Togekiss (Level 37), and I switched to Gordie. Togekiss was actually a strong attacker. Gordie used Tar Shot, which made Togekiss weak to Fire moves. Togekiss actually kept hitting with Ancient Power, which I was surprised was super effective against Gordie, despite it being a Fire and Rock Type. Gordie boosted with Flame Charge, which was super effective due to Tar Shot and boosted the speed. I then had Gordie fire off a Smack Down and end the battle with Incinerate, beating Togekiss.

Last was her Alcremie (Level 38). This was the fight I was so worried about I got a Cufant in the first place. I sent out Peony the Copperajah, we both went big, and Alcremie was faster, despite being a massive cake. Alcremie struck with G-Max Finale, Peony took some damage, then fired back with Max Steelspike, OHKOing Alcremie and winning me my 5th Badge. Opal took me to Hammerlocke to get to the next Gym faster.

In the next Log, we will return to Hammerlocke. Until the next time, we will see you!

Hammerlocke
After Opal dropped me off, she ran into Bede, who happened to be there trying to petition Rose to let him back into the challenge. Oleana had apparently tasked him with finding the Wishing Stars, which ended with the destroying of the sacred art...

Opal saw him too, and encouraged him to come with her, saying he had enough "Pink" for her...anyway, good luck Bede.

I then met up with Sonia and Leon, who were concerned about Rose Tower and the various experiments there. Not much happened with me, since they were looking to let me continue on to Circhester.

I got my Main Team out:
Rillaboom (Henry)
Obstagoon (Piers)
Centiscorch (Kabu)
Alcremie (Opal)
Drednaw (Nessa)
G-Slowpoke (Klara)

Then I made for the bridge heading to Route 7.

Route 7 Bridge
Hop challenged me to battle here. He opened with Trevenant (Level 34) and I opened with Rillaboom, quickly changing out for Obstagoon. Trevenant confused Obstagoon, but a quick Night Slash ended the horror tree.

Next for Hop was Heatmor (Level 34) and I switched to Drednaw. One Rock Tomb and it was done. For the next three Pokemon, I switched to Rillaboom. Snorlax (Level 35) tried to beat me down with Body Slam, but fell to Drum Beating. Boltund (Level 35) hit with Crunch, but fell to Drum Beating. Inteleon (Level 37) used a Tearful Look, but fell, once again, to Drum Beating.

I watched him leave, then prepared to go onto Route 7. In the next Log, we will take on Routes 7 & 8. Until the next time, we will see you!

Routes 7 & 8
Going onto the Route itself, I defeated all of the trainers while exploring what looked like a bunch of ruins. This Route (Route 8) is where I had captured my Failinks in my first Playthrough.

Routes 7 & 8 are quite a bit long and quite varied, with desert on one side and snow on the other. I cleared all of the trainers and trained up my Team to Level 44.

We got to Circhester. In the next Log entry, we will discuss Circhester. Until the next time, we will see you!

Circhester
This city is one of the largest cities in the Region, given by the massive panorama view. I was afraid that Hop would jump me to battle at any time. There is a restaurant that has a mosaic or painting, can't tell which. There is also a Roman Style Bath here.

There isn't much to do here according to the game, so let's go take on the Gym Trainers.

Circhester Gym
Before I went in here, I went in with:
Rillaboom
Drednaw
Slowpoke
Venusaur
Eldegoss
Copperajah

Didn't really know which Team members I had planned for the Gym, especially considering I thought I would be having a Rematch against Gordie (I did in my first Playthrough).

The Gym Puzzle was tricky. I ended up running into so many of the sand pits, especially with the sandstorm last round.

I ended up setting up a core Team of 4 for the Gym, including training up to Level 45.

The Core group I chose for this fight was:
Eldegoss
Copperajah
Slowpoke
Drednaw

In the next Log, we will take on Gordie! Here we go! Until the next time, we will see you!
