Unown '?' and '!' at the Tanoby Ruins

I tried posting this in the "Simple Questions" thread almost two weeks ago, but the thread seems to be dead.

So I'll ask again where everyone can see.

In Pokémon FireRed, what are the mathematical odds of encountering an Unown '?' or '!' in Tanoby Ruins?

I really need to know this. A full set of Kanto-native Unown could prove to be a valuable bargaining chip in the future, so I need to know how long I'm gonna have to aimlessly wander around.

I know where they are, I don't know how common they are. So far I've been bombarded with nothing but Unown A and Z. For days.

If I remember right, both the ! and ? Unowns have a 1% encounter rate at the Ruin they appear at.

1% means one out of every one hundred.

Though this isn't exactly accurate since I tried so hard to get a male Nidoran outside Mt. Moon in LeafGreen and for some reason never did find one. So, all you really need is luck and time.

There's really no way to predict that unless I use a probability formula, and I'm not up to that in this moment.

So let's just put it this way. Whenever you find an Unown, there's a 1% chance you'll find a !/? Unown in the Ruin they appear at. That's a very slim chance, to say the least. But yes, I can't crack out a number like for the chance of a Shiny Pokémon (1 in 8192).

You're wrong, though. 1% chance is way higher than the chance to find a Shiny Pokémon. (1/8192 = 0.00012%). So... good luck. XP

Well, I'm pretty sure I've been through more than a hundred Unown A and I still haven't found Unown '?'.

Of course, when you're desperately searching for one thing and only finding other things, it can seem like there's a hundred when there's really only forty, so I may be wrong.

Just a side note too, the formula that you'll find one "!" or "?" Unown to every 100 encounters only works on average. It doesn't mean to say that every 100 there will be at least 1, at least not in my experience. All I'm going to add is good luck and you'll feel so much more elated when you do catch them.

I never knew they existed in FR/LG before reading this post, I knew about thwm in Soleceon ruins as I have all unown in Pearl.
