I don't know if this thread's been done before. If so, then I sincerely apologize.

The pokemon games are unrealistic - yes, I know that, but there are some things that are really unthinkable.

For example, Fire-types working just fine Underwater(Dive), with no penalty of any sort...?

And they said the Charmander family would die if the fire on their tails were out. :(

EDIT:

Okay, so what I said was a little vague.

I don't mean to have pokemon actually "dying" from battles of course. I just meant that it would've been better if Fire-types recieved penalty underwater.

When you look at the Pokemon Rangers, they put on oxygen masks when they're underwater. Not in the main games, though.

However... I guess that's only said for the Rangers games.

Anyway, it's just for fun. No reason to get serious.

So you want kids to have their pokémon die in front of their eyes just as they start a battle?

Hey, if you wanna look at it that way, then most battles shouldn't even be possible while surfing.

Diving for a Pokemon, fine... But without something for the oxygen for the human?!

Gee, Brendan, May, Hilbert and Hilda sure have steel lungs.

Well I agree that it sometimes contradicts itself in some ways with certain Pokemon being able to learn moves unthinkable lol However I believe it makes it all the more interesting the more wacky a Pokemon gets.

I will say though that the premise of Pokemon itself is slightly strange with the idea of using creatures to literally harm each other to the point of unconsciousness for sport. In a way I guess it's contradictory towards it's own moral teachings.

Regardless of these ideas Pokemon is the most amazing game and anime series, so therefore these dark shadows are overlooked contently rofl :p

Maybe they use that respirator thing that is used in the anime. We don't see it so we never know.
Also, fire can burn underwater.
Don't ask me, science says so.

i see a lot of people talk about most pokemon battling on or under water, but no one mentions pokemon like goldeen battling on land

Now that you mention it, how do they do that anyway? The anime always made sure there was water for pokemon like Goldeen to use, and yet they just battle okay even in the desert. LOL

I'm guessing that Pokémon like Golden would need water very often, but will move around like a snake on land. That's how they did it in HGSS.

How do you use moves like surf or dive in the desert? Where does the water even come from?

"Blast Burn missed!" in tall grass.
You know, I'm pretty sure being "razed by a fiery explosion" would cause a bit of a problem in tall grass....it'd be nice if there was something like a fire department,
Oh, and no food the character can eat.

I agree it is rather strange. My theory is that the pokemon already has water stored within it to enable such a move in a place with no water. I also believe that because all pokemon are mythical beings they can draw their elements from external sources perhaps?

I think that is the most likely explanation :p
