Sometime Monday morning GMT (so, sometime late Sunday evening or so in the US), we'll be having some downtime while our databases are consolidated to help alleviate some of the issues with our current space problem.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation.

Is this just database maintenance or can we expect to see vBulletin 4 after the downtime? :]

Like with upgrading the wikis to the latest version of MediaWiki, we'll have vB4 likely before too much longer. We gotta make sure everything works together correctly first, and hopefully when we do make the move to upgrade, you won't notice it at all.

Yeah, this isn't to do with the vB4 upgrade, I'm afraid. The upgrade there is being delayed until the end of the month, as the updates planned for the 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 patches (which they've told us will come out on the 7th and 22nd) are pretty important, and I don't want to go live before we have those and have played around with them a little. We also have a lot of work to do on the skins before then. The system there has completely changed, and we're having to re-create all our skins from scratch.

Ouch, that's very rough. One of the worst things about forum ownership in my opinion are skins, creating or recreated CSS code can be very time consuming. I'm just curious though, are you guys testing vB4 on a different subdomain or something with a copy of the current database just to make sure everything works or what? I imagine you wouldn't go through with the upgrade before thoroughly testing it.

Anyway, more on topic, this downtime wouldn't have anything to do with what was mentioned in the staff blog, would it? I know there was talk about PMs older than six months were going bye-bye. Is this downtime for that kind of stuff?

We are. Due to the terms of the vB license, we're not able to open that test board to the general public I'm afraid. It's only staff, development forum members, and a few hand picked testers in there. Also, due to the current issues with space for database, we've had to do it with a blank database instead of a copy of the forums database we have.

It's linked to exactly that issue, yes. Long story short...the wiki databases are huge, the forums database was pretty damn big itself (we literally wiped out 60% of the forums database by removing the old attachments, scarily enough), and we've been running out of storage space. I have a feeling our next server is going to have a RAID of the largest, fastest HDD's we can afford. ^^;

What about the themes submitted for the contest?

Those should be there when the upgrade happens. We have an incredible amount of information that we have to deal with for each skin. Even having access to the data that was used for the skins in this forum, it has taken me nearly a week to get half of Erika's Garden up, and it's glitchy.

The system is totally different, and there are so many new variables that don't seem to have any sort of correlation... it's all extremely confusing.

Hey... this wasn't maintenance... this was Team Rocket hacking into the system... xD

Great job.
