Amazon.com's just updated with a bunch of new release dates for various manga in the U.S.

First up: Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!, Volume 5 will be out on October 6th, 2009. They've got the cover art up as well.

Next, the reprinting of Pokémon Adventures continues with Volume 03, also coming out on October 6th, 2009 and Volume 04, coming out December 1st, 2009.

Finally, Viz is releasing the Giratina and the Sky Warrior Ani-Manga on November 3rd, 2009. For those of you who don't know, Viz's ani-manga are English translations of those comics that take screenshots from the movie and arrange them as comic book panels to tell the story of the movie. Kind of pointless if you've already seen the movie or own a portable DVD player, but whatever.

It looks like this might be it for 2009. Not too bad, really.

Awesome seems PS is alreay in Yellow, hopefully we can see GSC, RS, FRLG, E, and DPPt soon if they do decide to go past volume 7

Pretty sweet. I'm already getting excited for the 2 coming out in June.

Question: how many volumes of DPA are out in Japan, and is it still ongoing?

yeah, ani-manga are always printed on a more high quality, denser, glossy colour paper (similar to that of a poster, except more durable)

its really a shame they don't use that kind of money to get higher quality paper for real manga... (like in Singapore, or the Yugioh Bunkouban)

Hell, if anything I've seen paper quality getting worse, at least from Tokyopop. It's like newspaper print, you can see through the pages. And they charge a dollar more for it. And then they wonder why they no longer have my business.

I'm talking the paper in singapore and special eitions in japan are good

american manga paper sucks, Tokyo Pop is horrible in every way, especially there paper

The paper quality in the few Tokyopop books I've bought have been fine. I don't know what you guys are talking about.

So, these Pokemon Adventures volumes are identical to the previous releases, or did they retranslate them?

Tokyopop's bad paper has been more of a recent thing, around the same time they increased price. I noticed it in the first volume of Peacemaker Kurogane, but Fruits Basket 22 that I bought around the same time was still nice. It seems to vary by series.

The first one isn't out yet, so we can't be sure. But I doubt the books will have any major changes to them.

At most, though, they'll probably fix Green's and Blue's names back to the way they were in the original. But even that's just wishful thinking.

Oh, they're not? I was somehow under the impression they were, as I never bothered looking after them, already owning the old releases. Ah well, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, Volume One's coming out in June.

Oh! The books might be unflipped this time around. That's something worth noting.

I asked one of the Viz media people but they said they wouldn't tell me unless I wa spart of the press...
oh well :smokin:
just a few more months right :D

also my problem with tokyo pop is that they only have a few good series, they cutt off some series early for no greatly explored reasons, the books themselves deteriorate faster (covers I mean)
the paper quality is just another on eof my cpmplaints that has sprung up recently

Oh man, don't get me started. I've got 8 different series that have either been officially canned or keep getting delayed, all from tokyopop. I see no reason to buy anything new from them if they can't even finish what they already have, because there's no guarantee I'll ever see the end without buying them in Japanese.

thats why anything that is licensed by tokyo pop I just go straight to one manga
also one problem I didn't mention is that it annoys me how they don't translate the sound effects, because 90% of americans probably won't know what the sound effects are which takes away from the manga

Would someone be kind enough to catch me up on Pokèmon Adventures? I'm a big fan of Pokèmon Special, but to my understanding, the english translation stopped somewhere in the middle and then restarted with some kind of "The best of Red and Yellow" or something. Does that mean they re-released the beginnin while skipping parts? Is there an official straight-full translation?

Extra note, I kind of agree with the sound effects notion. I can read katakana and still can't make out half of those things.
