With the latest trailer got uploaded, what was your first impression from the game mechanics?

Honestly, I like the customization feature expanded even into their eye colors. Also, characters are more real size proportion this time.

I think you can change your eye color even in X/Y. But thanks for pointing out the proportions. I thought there was something about the characters that struck me as out of the ordinary.

You could custumize eyes in XY. Honestly, it would have been nice if you can choose skin/hair/eyes independently, but clearly they're locked onto specific designs (at least in the beginning). If they weren't, we wouldn't have four portraits and the lightest skinned character design wouldn't have a portrait for black and blond hair. Though at least in terms of skin tone, Game Freak realized that there's a bit more than just "light" and "dark"

Hopefully SM has trainer mechanics. Maybe this game will actually change your clothing and trainer class to obtain certain benefits. For example, a Swimmer trainer class would give you a wetsuit/swimsuit and allow Water-type Pokémon to be caught and trained easier. Heck, we should also have trainer stats that can boost up our Pokémon in certain circumstances. Who knows, but maybe both your Trainer class and trainer stats will be incorporated into a new Mega Evolution mechanic like Ash-Greninja.

Just some food for thought, but I really think stuff like class changes and trainer stats sounds like the logical way to progress the series!

I'm hoping for even more pleasant surprises in breeding mechanics. I can't express how happy I was at the new mechanics in X/Y, and I'm hoping for something similar here.

I was wondering, what will happen to the grid? Will we have full 360 movement? I noticed that the PCs never changed direction in the trailer. Maybe they don't want to show something?

Also, I didn't see any grass patches in the trailer at all. Suspicious...

Well, putting the hype aside, let's be honest that once you get down to it there was basically nothing game play related shown here except for the fact that we've got a new attack called "Leafage", which is likely a Special Razor Leaf to pair with Ember and Water Gun.

Of course I think The Pokemon Company chose wisely to introduce the graphical upgrades and new Pokemon first and foremost to get people's attention before bogging them down with more nitty-gritty, more serious fan-aimed features.

The only possible mechanics we could gleam here is the addition of the Trainers constantly behind the Pokemon (hopefully not just for the Rival fight) means more interaction with your Pokemon beyond what Pokemon-Amie brought to the table, and some also wonder if the scene of the protagonist lifting up Litten is more than just a cutscene and could be some feature or sorts that ties into bonding with your Pokemon.

Though, and not related to the main system, I do wanna know if the larger presence of roads and vehicles is more than just visual.

The male PC does turn while running at some point (at 1:04):

I very much doubt there isn't going to be full 360 movement. ORAS had it, so why would they change it?

i think that stretch that runs on the right side of the city is route one. the protags house is probably that house at the bottom, which would explain why the pc is running uphill towards the town where the starters are given and why there is no grass.
