so i noticed alot of pokemon profiles don't have completed sprites, I wanted to help and upload some sprites from emulated games. But uploading is disabled. I just wanted to know what i could do to help with this

You should upload them to photobucket and just use the img code to put them on.

Are you talking about the Wiki? Uploading images is done through the Archives.

Log into the Archives with your Bulbapedia login. Image uploading is done there. For the missing sprites, make sure you name the file as it is on the articles. Images will appear after a bit.

Be sure you check with one of the admins involved in the sprite uploading. I think it was Fabu-Vinny who did it before... anyway, you should NEVER call up an image from an external source on the 'pedia. You can do it on your userpage, though; it's a nice way to add images without stuffing the archives with stuff not relevant to the main namespace.

Make sure that the sprites are SURROUNDED BY TRANSPARENCY. We don't want nasty whitespace.

Anyway, most of the sprites we need are from Emerald; the others are simple to find. And Emerald... that's where an animated gif comes in.

OT: APNG violates the PNG spec, and I don't like the thought of promoting that. :-( It's not like there are any better alternatives (GIF is bad, MNG has terrible adoption rates), but...

Apparently, there's a difference between APNG and animated PNG. We're using the latter.

Not apng, those are just png. The people who made the png standard decided to make apng instead of just expanding on plain old png. The animated one I put on here, that's a png.

I'm not that involved in the sprites, anyway, so I hardly know anything about this.

We're missing loads more than the shiny Emerald sprites.

The details were recently discussed at the Project Pokédex talk page but my repsonse to this topic is that we need sprites extracted from the actual game, not screenshots.

There's no such thing as an animated PNG. You're using APNG, which shares the .png file extension.

Actually, I downloaded one extension that saved an animation as .apng. This one saved as png, which displays the still first frame in stuff that doesn't support it.

APNGs can use .apng or .png extensions. They're backwards-compatible with older viewers because they're served with a PNG MIME-type and have the same header.

The people who made the PNG standard outright rejected APNG. So far the driving force behind APNG has been the Mozilla Corporation. This is also why Firefox 3 was the first browser (first anything really) to support it. Bulbapedia is using APNG.

Make sure you put the category on the summary...hey, that rhymed! ie) {{Category: Pikachu}}. It's great that you'll be uploading sprites. I was going to do it, but I just ran out of patience after uploading all the Pt sprites.
