"After some debate, Congress voted that anything containing two tablespoons of tomato sauce can be labelled a vegetable, putting pizza into the vegetable category."

Yeah, they really did.

And they did it because lobbyists from the frozen food, salt, and potato industries (as well as others) were worried that they would lose a major source of revenue by excluding pizza from school lunches. Saving money for these industries was prioritized over the Obama administration's efforts to create healthier school lunches to fight obesity in America's youth.

Now, I love pizza like no other, but seriously? (Let's not even talk about the fact that tomatoes are genetically a fruit, not a vegetable. The US Supreme Court designated tomatoes as vegetables in 1893 so they could tax them. LOL)

*headdesk*

Doesn't Congress have better stuff to do.......

This is THEEE most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

What. The. Fuck?

I think they forgot about all the grease, fat, and other stuff that is more profound in pizza than vegetables...

You really do learn something every day. If pizzas are vegetables, what other things are still being classified wrong? Personally, I've always thought elephants were crazed reptiles, water is yoghurt from space and the Earth is a lamppost that feasts on the blood of fleas.

Are they serious? Really? So apparently, I'm eating healthy since pizza is a vegetable...

This is extremely pointless...

This is like saying that ice cream with a cherry on top is a fruit.

Pizza can be healthy if you make it yourself at home, but usually they're not the best choice outside homemade, especially at schools, soo problably not in the vegetable section lol. Could french fries also be considered a vegatable then?

Anything containing two tablespoons of tomato sauce can be labelled a vegetable, huh?

Think about that. If you ate a pizza, you'd technically be a vegetable as well, then.

This makes no sense at all; it can't be considered a vegetable if it's covered in cheese and meat products as toppings. Plus it's debatable on whether or not tomatoes are fruits or vegetables.

This thread seems to be more political than anything; as a result, moving to Nico's Bus.

Since this topic still appears to be here, I'll chime in with a fact related to this topic. If this topic was copied to the Bus, someone with access to that forum feel free to quote me there.

Congress is not deciding if pizza itself is a vegetable. Congress ruled that pizza sauce is a vegetable, after being pushed by public schools (who were being pushed by the FDA) to count it as a vegetable in school lunches, in an effort to save money. In the end there are more important things for Congress to do, but this isn't totally unreasonable.
