The amount of users in the index is ridiculous. There should be a policy where if a user hasn't been active for over 6 years, they get deleted.

As far as I know, that's against the site policy. Besides, would you enjoy visiting so many profiles to see if they've been online or made a post in the past 6 years?

There are database issues that come with deleting users. Plus, some very old users (ex-mods, etc.) have made very important posts which we don't want to prune.

What I'm mainly referring to are the users that were only active for about a month or less, made few, if any, posts (let alone important ones), and haven't been on for years.

wouldn't deleting old users (like that old who aren't ex-mods) save room on the databases and help reduce the server load just a tiny bit (because wouldn't every bit help right now and when Gen V comes out...)?

I'm just curious (by no means am I an expert on that kind of thing...)

I say delete just the ones that had registered so they could post for a maximum of a month and then back their ags and go.

"please use user before april 1st, 2010"

lol.

i dont think the accounts should be deleted.

User accounts will not be deleted, Archaic has made this a site-wide policy. It would cause more problems for the database than fix.

This, and also, it would be just plain rude. Imagine if someone did sign up four+ years ago and didn't post, but wanted to now that HeartGold/SoulSilver have been released and information on Generation V was being revealed, but found their account had been permanently deleted?

Sure they can just re-register, but it's still plain rude to delete their account.

lol does the OP not know that more users that the site has the better it is for the site overall? What a dummy.

Not to mention, any posts/blogs would become disassociated from the userbase.

I still think that the users who have been banned for life should be deleted, at least the ones who were just spambots and advertisers.

No. That will negatively impact the database.

Thread closed; I don't know how many other ways we could say it.

There is only one circumstance where we may delete an account on the forums.

Accounts that were registered, but which have *never* had any activity (beyond confirming with the activation email) whatever after a period of 2 years. Even 1 post, 1 blog comment, 1 social group membership, is enough for me to not touch them. It causes more database issues than it could potentially help with, and the user table is a very small part of the forums database to begin with.
