I was thinking that there should be some sort of indication of the user gender located somewhere on the post.

There are several reasons why I believe it would be a good idea. One that I can think of is that sometimes people refer to others accidentally as "her" when it is actually a guy. Then people end up embarrassed and sometimes upset.

Just thought it may help a bit.

Thanks!

I've seen this on other forums and it's pretty useful. There's always someone who can't be bothered looking and calls me 'he', though.

Well, they will have to be bothered, won't they?

The majority will look though. You know, hopefully!

What he/she said.

It's a sound idea and helps avoid embarrassment. Goodness knows how many times I've mistaken members for the wrong gender.

There's only one slight problem with this, some people don't select their gender so even still, you may not know what their true gender is. But I think it's a great idea, I install that mod on my forum which makes it so much easier knowing what a person's gender is without having to visit their profile.

I'm against this.
I feel that if it is necessary to refer to someone you can use the individuals user name, a gender neutral term, or at worst, call them whatever and if you are wrong, oops? you can be corrected if it becomes an issue...

Lol it's funny before I changed my user name people used to say I was a guy..

Yes I agree with that too but sometimes people can't be bothered using their name.

It just seems a bit awkward, though. Its sounds wierd if you repeat someone's name several times in one sentence and I sure don't want to be called 'it' unless I'm playing tag. 'They' and 'one' can be gender-neutral too, though... I guess it'd just be more convenient for those who get annoyed by being called the wrong gender.

It would just become there own problem in that case if they decide not to set their gender. Then, if they are called a 'he' when they actually are a 'she' it would just be their own fault for not setting it.

The basic thought though is that a person can set their gender to either boy/girl or if needed, neutral.

Also, doesn't it already say in someone's profile? If you really want to know, you can go there... Personally, I prefer to not know unless I care to look. I will not deny that my judgment and/or perception is skewed by the gender/sex of an individual. Usually, I like to keep those thoughts out of a discussion.

Overall, I just don't think it's really that important to know, and since there is a way to find out anyway, I don't see the point. Just ask, why are people so dead set on finding out things about people without speaking to them about it.

To be honest, while I don't object to the system itself being implemented...I honestly don't mind being though of as a female. XD

The people who matter to me know I'm a guy, as for everyone else, I don't mind if they assume I'm a girl or not. It's not like I'm out to date online or anything like that, and as a rule I generally don't fill out gender fields unless I have to or feel like asserting a certain gender identity. xD

^ This just made me lol.

Fortunately, the "boi" in my name usually lets people know my gender. Although now that I'm 30, I use it rather loosely- it's just what I've been for years and years on the interwebz.

As far as gender markers- I like the idea. Mostly because I find it annoying to have to pop into someones profile, find the info, then continue to post. Plus it seems a bit- stalkery. Whereas a quick glance to the left and I'm golden.

WOMEN CAN USE THE INTERNET?!

I laughed as well.

I would have pegged you for a transgender to be honest.

I feel that this is a worth-while mod to contribute.

As for the LGBT community population - I don't find it too complicated to select your gender that you are comfortable with.

As in the case of a transsexual male>female to simply put the gender that they feel they are. Female. And vice-versa for Female>Male.

This is a non-offensive mod and is in no way discriminatory.

As for the Lesbian/Gay populace they should feel no stall in putting down their gender as it doesn't in any way ask their sexuality and only asks for their gender. If they so much as feel insecure of their gender they should probably look up at my solution for transsexuals and use that method.

I feel that this is a worthwhile MOD that can be implemented.

I don't think we should compel people to reveal their gender, or even put pressure on them. A big perk of this place is anonymity.
