I've lost to MegaGengar's popular strategy so many times

Shadow Tag + Substitute + Perish Song + Shadow Ball/Sludge Bomb/Whatever

This nearly kills everything I have and it especially gets deadly in doubles.

I started looking for anyone with Soundproof and I got my eyes set on Bastiodon.

Soundproof available? Yes. (Yancy gives you one in B2W2)
Steel type- Immune to poison moves
Neutral to Ghost moves
Has high Defense and Special Defense.

I'm planning...

Max EV's in HP and Special Defense. Rest goes to Defense.
Defense enhancing nature/Reducing Speed (it's so slow anyways)
Item: Balloon?

Moves:
Roar
Substitute
Iron Defense/Double Team
Metal Burst

Do you think this might be good? Or should I consider other options?

I would stop considering. If most people follow Smogon rules then they wouldn't be using Mega Gengar as it is banned. But if you wanted something to counter regular Gengar possibly a mixed Metagross. It blocks the Poison and should be able to handle any of Gengar's moves. Plus with Perish Song if you swap out prior to the 3 turns being done it the effects disappear much like with Confusion.

Ran a calculation between Metagross and Gengar with their most likely stats.

252+ SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Metagross: 314-372 (103.9 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So if you ran a Focus Sash Metagross it would be able to put it out using Zen Headbutt or Psychic.

252+ Atk Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 446-528 (170.2 - 201.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So if you were able to survive the Shadow Ball then get off the Zen Headbutt you should be fine. This is probably the best way I know to take out Gengar. There are other options like Aegislash and Scizor however so maybe give them a try.

If you find yourself running Focus Sash Metagross to counter something you know it's broken xD

Anyway that would not work at all b/c PerishTrap Gengar can choose who it stays in on so it can usually get a Sub up before you get the chance to being in something you want to be in on it. This limits your effective checks to things that have Infiltrator, sound moves, or multi-hit moves. Mega Heracross can eat a Shadow Ball and hit with Rock Blast, Exploud has Choice Specs Scrappy Boomburst, Scarf Chandelure has Shadow Ball and is not trapped by Shadow Tag... All if those are better than Focus Sash Metagross.

U Turn & Volt Switch (CS Trick Rotom and Scizor would totally flat line a Perish team).

While all the other listed options are of course recommended, Metagross isnt so easily defeated either. At least the one I use with Assault Vest 252 HP/252 Atk/6 SpDef
I'm not saying Metagross is the preferred counter but if by chance he happens to be in the situation.

252+ Atk Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 252-297 (96.1 - 113.3%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

^ This can be used in the event Gengar tries to pull off the Substitute. Metagross has a chance for an attack boost. Its going to knock the Sub off regardless.

252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 192-228 (52.7 - 62.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

^In the event Gengar tries to attack, Metagross is guaranteed to survive, even if he's Modest natured. And he won't dwindle at 1HP and be left out to dry after Gengar falls.

252+ Atk Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 446-528 (170.2 - 201.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

^And of course, its always a OHKO.

He's basically creating a tank. This thing will take so much to kill. Fantastic idea. I really wanna see where this goes

Perish Trap Mega Gengar is a monster. Fortunately while X&Y gave us that monstrosity, it also gave us this:

Noivern
28qqi34.gif

IVs: 31/X/31/31/31/31
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk./252 Speed/4 Sp. Def.
Ability: Infiltrator
Nature: Timid
Item: Choice Specs
Moveset:
Draco Meteor
Boomburst
Flamethrower
Hurricane

One Draco Meteor KOs Mega Gengar and Infiltrator means you can ignore that Substitute.

Alternatively, anything with Taunt should put a damper on Gengar's fun.

PerishTrap Mega Gengar is not a monster (in doubles, at least, not sure about singles), but, rather, a gimmick, which destroys unprepared teams and gets destroyed by a prepared opponent. It has a hard counter, which is VoltTurn (unless MeGengar somehow manages to pull off a triple Protect, which is, as we all know, somewhat unlikely to happen), as Codface had mentioned already. I also recommend Thunder Waving it prior to Mega Evolution (if you have anything that can outspeed and paralyze base 110 Gengar) and EQs (cuz Levitate is lost upon Mega Evolution). And yeah, Noivern

What I do to Gengars in doubles is put up a Talonflame with some speed EVs and U-Turn and a Jolteon with Volt Switch. The moment I do this, Gengar is either dead or forced out. As well as Gothitelle. Because many Perishtrap Megengars I've seen were supported by Shadow Tag Gothoritas (eviolite)/Gothitelles

As for Bastiodon, I think that a MeGengar will either simply switch out or get behind a Substitute and spam Shadow Balls/Dark Pulses/Focus Blasts/Whatever-damage-move-gets-put-on-perishtrap-gengars
