I have to know how many people know that you can use the microphone to talk to people over wifi? Because I have traded with about twenty people over my wifi connection and most don’t say a word and when I say hi I seem to startle them.

I talked to my online friend Sojaro over the wifi chat during a battle, but my parents would probably get mad at me if they knew I was talking to online people...that's whay I'm waiting until this August when I go to college and can do whatever I want to :3

I either don't say anything or I turn the voice chat off (you can do that by pushing X on the "lobby" screen). I'm shy. :3

I'm shy, too. I usually don't like to talk to people I don't know. ^^; But until now I didn't know how to turn the voice chat off, and I'd just hope the other people didn't want to talk. xD

Plus, sometimes when I'm talking to some kids over the voice chat, it makes me feel a little bit annoyed when I'm destroying his team because they get all whiny, like, " uhhhhhhh your umbreon is too goooooood, don't use it next time." Like it's part of their strategy to use the voice chat to make me feel bad and give them a win.

And I'm like, I'll use whatever I want. D:<

Somes I use the mic. Not often, though. It just depends if I am friends with the person or not.

My parents wouldnt want my parents to find out I was talking to other people. I'll just get the headset, and claim it has better quality.

I keep mine on and if the person I'm trading with wants to talk, cool. Otherwise, I usually say nothing.

I say hi, thanks for the trade, hope you are happy. in battles, well, i haven't battled yet. still creating team. i love to talk because i'm really random. haha

I will say something almost every time I'm trading or battling, even if its someone I don't know I guess I'm just used to being friendly. What I usually get in response is a worried "uhhhh... hey" or most of the time complete silence. XD

I'm not uncomfortable with voice chatting at all, but if they don't ask me to talk I won't. :p Usually I'm chatting with them at the same time as I'm trading, so i usually ask if they'd like to voice chat. It's just easier that way, lol.

I don't force the issue, but I like doing it. It adds a bit of spice to the process. :p Although a lot of times I can't understand what they're saying due to lag or static. :x

I barely like talking to people in real life. They can talk if they want, I just wont respond. Just today I heard someone complaining about their wifi giving them troubles before we went to trade, and then wifi went out.

Yeah, I'm shy too so most of the time I won't utter a word, sometimes I turn the voice chat off, sometimes I leave it on XD Really depends what I'm feeling like at the time. If people try to talk to me then I do talk back, though whether the person on the other side can hear me that's another story, most of the time they tell me I break up mid-sentence, silly DS microphones XD

I've never had problems with lag, then again the furthest I've talked is California (I live on one side and they the other) then again, I've only talked to people I know so...

I don't have the WFC yet, but some of my friends do, and I am getting it soon. Then I can be a member of the WiFi community as well! ^(^_^)^

Man, the WiFi chat function is awesome for that. I've chatted with friends I've never met in real life over it--a marvelous sensation. I wish more games had that option.

I don't see how you can be shy about talking to a complete stranger who you'll likely never meet again. But I never got a chance to chat. I usually just GTS and go. lol.

You just answered your own question. The voice chat seemed a bit too muffled to me, and I don't really like talking about Pokemon to people who actually care about it. (weird I know)
