"Three score and three years ago," the headmaster of Vanguard Academy started, his voice booming throughout the hall. The Academy presided in a castle, and they were in the large hall of it, listening to his welcoming speech after having just arrived. "The first dragons appeared. For six years we fought with them until the Light siblings came, arriving on the backs of their bonded partners. They told everyone of how they could use their partners abilities and how they had found peace, and now we live in peace with dragons. From them we discovered that some humans and only some have the ability to bond with dragons and borrow their abilities. Of course we didn't know at first that some bonds did not work right and thus ended up badly. This was furthered by two score and three years ago when the Dark Riders arrived. Thus Vanguard Academy was established to train our future Dragon Riders, not only to fight the Dark Riders and keep peace between the two species, but two prepare you for your choices of futures as well.

Our school is simple. Here we teach you what you need to know, as well as give you the chance to see what kind of partner you're looking for, and how well you work together. Though you are probably wondering how we do that. With these," he held up a strange bracelet. It was simple metal with a colorless half orb on it. "This will allow you to lend and borrow each others abilities. They also double as school IDs. The bracelets also meld to forms." To demonstrate, a second year wyvern transformed from human form to his dragon, his bracelet melding to his new form. He then transformed back, the bracelet returning to normal as he bowed and left.

"Now the school is not particularly rule heavy and we really only have four.
  1. Dragons may not take on their dragon forms without permission or outside of the arena.
  2. No fighting outside of the arena.
  3. Bonding unless under special circumstances before graduation is not allowed.
  4. Love between a dragon and human is forbidden.

"Now then why don't you follow your teachers to the classes directed on your letters."

The students then went to their directed classes, which was like two different teachers. Though the lucky ones got a woman and a male. The woman was average height with grey eyes, light skin, and long black hair tipped red. She showed no emotion, and wore a red sleeveless vest like top with a long black sleeveless undershirt that reached her knees with a slant, and black combat boots also reaching her knees. Next to her stood a male that was taller than her but average height as well with red bangs brushed to the side, and the rest of his hair black. His eyes were red and dragon-like, and his nails were claws. He was garbed entirely in black and only his hands and neck and face showed skin.

"I am your teacher Regina Nolastname. You will refer to me as Regina. This is my partner Ejderha," she introduced.

"I am a dragon, just like half of you. Regina is not the only one that will be teaching you, but I as well," he spoke with an Albanian accent. "Now we will hand out your bracelets," he said, doing just that.

Once the bracelets were on, for the humans they stayed clear, but for the dragons they changed colors representing the dragons. Emekri's for example was a mix of green and gold, just like his colors as a dragon.

"Now then I am required to remind you of the rules. Don't transform without permission, of course this only implies to outside the arena. If you are fighting in the arena then you can transform. No fighting outside the arena, but frankly I would say don't go destroying the school and keep is small and discreet if you don't do it in the arena. No bonding. I actually do suggest following this. If you bond early, you could be bonding with someone that is not a match for you, and that could harm you negatively. Love between dragon and human is forbidden. This is because if you guys fall in love then you lose your powers, and the dragon becomes human. However as the rules say, love is forbidden, not sex. So go crazy," she threw her hands up in a half cheerful attempt.

"Now since the most important thing in a bond is relationships, rather than jumping into teaching, let's introduce ourselves. Talk to each other, or to us if you wish. We are here for any questions you may have," Ejderha.

Emekri smiled contently at their teachers. He could already tell the academy would be interesting. He looked around at his classmates, watching and observing them.

(( @Flaze; @smaug85; @Prez; @Flannery; @GastlyGibus; @Heroic Socipath; @Yun; @Heartist;

So just interact with each other or the teachers, or yeah. Just social for now. Maybe give characters thoughts on what has happened so far, and maybe say what your dragons orbs look like.)))

Walking around without the weapons that had been his companions so long had made Dirk feel a bit... uncomfortable. He was usually a walking armory but now with the exception of the knife in his boot and the pistols concealed in their quick draw shoulder holsters by his charcoal sport coat, he was unarmed.

Listening to the professors speak about their purpose here, he raised an eyebrow. He didn't understand why Regina seemed to lax about the majority of the rules as well as why she seemed so focused on romance between dragons and humans. For the rules, Dirk had seen first hand how dangerous unchecked dragons could be. And for the second, it was just odd. Did dragons really want to get romantically involved with humans and vice versa? It just seemed weird to him.

These thoughts quickly left his mind as he looked around the room. While he wasn't sure about Regina's methods, he did also realize that he could learn a lot from her and if there was one thing he was eager to do, it was to learn. He wanted all the knowledge he could get so next time he fought the dark riders, the outcome would be very, very different.

Atanas was somewhat uncomfortable during the opening speech at the school. He felt weird knowing that he was older than most of the students, and probably the same age as some of the teachers. At 45 he was still young for his species of Dragon but in comparison to the human students here he was afraid he would be seen as old. The only solace Atanas could take was that in his human form he still only looked 25 due to his elongated lifespan. Atanas nerves seemed to calm somewhat when his bracelet was put on, right as it touched his skin the orb turned black with shimmering white stars like the night sky, Atanas sighed in relief, he knew this is where he belonged.

Atanas listened quietly and intently to the two teachers assigned,a man and a woman. Atanas listened to the rules, scribbling them down in a small notebook he had in the beat up, leather messenger bag that hung from his shoulder. Atanas heard the rule about falling in love and thought, "Considering I'm about 20 years their senior it should not be hard to follow that rule.

Crispin looked at his bracelet. So it would give him superpowers. That was pretty cool. But he'd need to find a partner. That...That would be a hassle. By nature, Crispin was an introvert. He had been raised to not talk to people. After all, there was always a chance that they could be an undercover cop. He seriously doubted that was the case here, but old habit die hard. Crispin instead sat in back. He stuck out a bit, however. Part of it was because of his unusual coloring. While other people had strange hair colors and the like, that was likely because they were dragons. He was completely human, and yet he had red eyes and white hair. He wore a white parka, with soft fluffy trim, and a purple shirt beneath. One of his fellow students had long green hair and two different colored eyes. Crispin thought he looked silly, but a glance at his bracelet told him he was a dragon, and couldn't help it.

He couldn't help but notice the others were making no move to partner up. Was it shyness? Was that really worth the price? Every time someone else picked a dragon, that would mean one less choice for everyone else. He wondered if it was a bit callous to think that way. Thinking of his future partners as powers. As Regina talked, he stared at her. So...She was basically telling the students to bone? Was that responsible? Then he remembered, there were only four actual rules. Didn't that mean that if someone stole from him, or broke his things, he would be unable to do anything about it within the rules? He wouldn't even be allowed to fight if the other person didn't want to.

Crispin looked from side to side. It was time to get over his old habits. He turned to Atanas. The man was tall, but he seemed approachable.

"Regina. I want to try it out right now. How do I use these to temporarily bond?" Crispin asked. He then looked at Atanas. "Provided you're willing, of course."

"You will learn when we teach you. However you cannot use them now. That is a lesson for tomorrow. For now you must learn about your classmates," she told him. "If you try to do it without knowing anything about the other, it will fail and you will hurt yourself."

The orb Chan had received was a midnight blue, with a thin stripe of crimson running through it - it seemed to represent her draconic form. Sighing a bit, the tall girl pushed the bridge of her glasses higher, scouring the room for a suitable partner. Dark blue tail sweeping the ground softly to and fro, the wyvern didn't make a move to seek out a human. She was still a bit edgy on trusting someone else, but alas, she could deal with it. Chan looked down, wishing she could hide her scarred eye. Blindness felt like a weakness, definitely something she didn't like.

Crispin didn't speak, just have the teacher a look. He questioned if she had a teacher's license. Telling a group of teenager's not to do something while giving them the means to do it. Gee, what could go wrong? Why were they even giving out bracelets if they weren't supposed to use them yet?

"I'm going to go explore the school, then." Crispin said. He turned to the tall man, Atanas. "You should come with." He then turned to a shy looking girl with a scar over her eye. He doubted she'd ask anyone herself. "You too. Anyone else coming?" He asked.

Maegis simply stared at his bracelet, taking in the appearance in its entirety. It was something he often did when he got something pertaining to his work. He had finally made it to the school, just as he had planned. This place would give him the jump-start he needed; not only for his brain, but for his sense of self. Perhaps he would work on his physique. The world needed tough fighters. However, he was sure that there would be others like him.

But, he wouldn't meet them by standing there being awkward. So, he sought out the person who looked most alone - that happened to be Chan, at least in his eyes. "Hi!" he said, a little too chipper. He made a mental note to tone it down for the next greeting.

Edjerha blocked the door. "We would appreciate if you don't leave the classroom. While the school technically only has four rules, as your teachers we expect respect. You probably think that because Regina is young that she cannot teach. However she has more experience than some of the older teachers at this school. As do I. Of course we can't stop you, but we hope that you will use that sorry excuse of a brain of yours and listen to us so you don't hurt yourself," he said before moving away from the door. "Right now you should be getting to know your classmates, and then later we will show you the school. Tomorrow if you actually take the time to learn about who is in your class then we will allow you to begin training with the bracelets," he told the whole class. "Those who choose not to listen will not get that privilege."

Asiopa looked at her bracelet, the orb shimmered a light teal and a much darker teal, much like her dragon form. With a sigh, she looked around the room. She was supposed to introduce herself to people and get to know them. She just wasn't sure how to present herself. So far, there wasn't much to pique her interest. Maybe talk to one of the teachers and allow her 'feet to get wet', so to speak? In normal circumstances, she was usually friendly and inviting. This time, it just seemed different. She felt bothered, tense, uneasy. Possibly because of the more powerful dragon in the room? the more powerful human? Or even the possibility that there wouldn't be a partner for her in the end? With much caution, she paced around the room, taking mental notes of what everyone else was doing.

Crispin rolled his eyes. He felt he was going to get good at that. Honestly, the staff was just coming across as arrogant. He'd believe Regina was a good teacher when he saw actual evidence. He had been trying to make friends, and Ederjha had insulted him. He did remember how his old guild had introduced members.

"Alright then. My name's Crispin Antares. I'm good at jumping around and hiding and throwing things. Also card tricks." He turned to...Maegis.

"What's your name?" He said. Honestly, he felt that going and exploring would have been easier. Bonds - the mundane kind, not magical - were formed from shared experience, something the faculty was ignorant of.

Atanas glanced at Crispin whenever he mentioned Atanas. Currently Atanas thought Crispin was somewhat egotistical and sure of himself. Atanas glanced around the room quietly, trying to eye any person or group of people that he might fit in with more.

Chan ignored Crispin, and instead turned towards the other dragon. "Uh.. Hello," she replied in a mumble to Maegis, a bit startled by his chipper attitude. That kind of positivity was hard to come by, these days.

(Maegis is a hooman, lol.)

Alright, she responded. Now, he had to initiate conversation. Easy enough. "Uh, my name is Maegis and I like to study things... wait, er - I mean..." he tapped his foot, trying to think of what to say. "What's your name?"

Winnie was visibly bouncing up and down, glancing around the area as a whole while she did so. This was her first time ever being in a room with multiple dragons; it was exciting. She wondered what kind of abilities they had, and what kind of lives they led. Did they go on adventures? Were they surprisingly domestic? Information like this and more was the kind of thing she wanted to learn in her time at the academy.

"I should totally go find one," she commented to herself, glancing around the room yet again.

(Oh. xD Ignore my stupidity, then.)

"Chan'ge, but you can just call me Chan." She replied with a soft smile. This human was kind, despite his outburst of a greeting earlier.

She responded! That was good! "Chan? Cool, and you can call me... Maeg? Maegey? Maeger?" he scratched the back of his head.

"I'll call you Aegis, I think." She chuckled lightly, amused by his difficulty of finding a nickname for himself.

"Aegis?" he thought about it. "Sounds... weird. Er, not like, bad weird. Like, exotic weird. That type of weird you get when you, like, mix animals," immediately, Maegis wanted to smack himself. "Uh, I mean like... animals that have no connection to... uh."

He could only admonish himself further, looking down to avoid talking to her.

"Don't worry, people think my name's weird. I'm used to it." She assured him with a soft sigh. It wasn't aimed at him, but rather at the awkward silence that soon followed.
