I was thinking about the game mechanics after playing various main pokemon games and saw things I liked, and others I did not. A few I remember are:

Like:
VS Seaker (Animation in FR/LG is pretty neat)

FR/LG/Platinum Move tutors... How I got a Poliwrath with metronome and Mega Punch

Battle Area in Platinum

Weather Effects and Day/Night system

Rebattling Gym leaders was a good idea

Rivals pokemon being strong if you beat E4 20 times in D/P

Dislike:

Contests - If they were made like Anime ones, they'd be much better

Poffins/Pokeblocks - No way to decrease a pokemons condition if it were not the way you wanted it

Event Pokemon - Not everyone can obtain them

Evolving pokemon through trade.. SUppose you want your powerful Kadabra to become an Alakazam and you can only do this by trade, and you want the Alakazam back, but you have no one to trade with, what do you do? Stick it on GTS and hope to find another great Alakazam on there?

Egg Moves being overwritten with new moves in daycare

Amnity Square - Maybe its better in the Platinum version, have to play and see

Ruby/Sapphire - Lack of some things to do, lack of wild pokemon with decent levels (e.g. lv35-40 or higher) It takes forever to get the pokemon to level 100 in those games

Lack mainly of something to do after beating E4

Anything you like/dislike about the game mechanics or whatever?

Both Battle Frontiers. Though I haven't played Pt yet, and am waiting for March to come to do so, the one in Emerald gave me a better reason to train for the best.

I do agree, Hoenn sucked with the levels. The only thing you could do to face wild Pokémon that were high enough level to give decent experience and not be boring to fight with level 40somethings is go into Victory Road. Not fun.

GTS has a trade-evo glitch actually. It's on Bulbapedia. Otherwise you could, technically, come beg someone to trade that has Wi-Fi just for an evolution.

And with the daycare... you just gotta be careful there.

i agree too. Hoenn sucked with lvls. but, i do like the thing where you can see who wants to battle you in Hoenn. pokenav i thing it is.
but with the lvls, you can always trade your pokemon to to xd and do mt. battle....

-The Vs. Seeker in FireRed/LeafGreen/Diamond/Pearl.

-Amulet Coin(doubling money is pretty cool).

-Contests.

-PokeBlocks/Poffins.

-The Poketch feature in Diamond/Pearl.

Likes:
Vs. Seeker (more EXP? gladly!)
Poketch (nice features, and it TELLS TIME! What time is it? I dunno, I'll go play Pokemon!)

Dislikes:
FR/LG (way too many "tutorials" just pressing R or L came up with that annoying help screen)
Competitive Battling (not fun T_T)

You could have changed it in "options" you know, I usually have L=A, though i find it weird that they have all these tutorials in the remakes and not in the first 3rd generation games that preceeded it :/

Also you are never forced into competitive battling in the games so yeah.

Likes:
-Hoenn Battle Frontier, Platinum maybe, so far I'm kind of in between
-Top Trainer Café. Oh how I wanted to battle our in game partners so badly.
-RSE Contests
-DPPt Visual round
-Sevii Islands
-Two Island Market
-Berries

Dislikes:
-Dance and Appeal rounds. Seriosuly, the dance is just generic, and the appeal round basically has you going through a formulaic moveset.
-Excessive Poketch features. Seriously, atleast give us a better way to browse :/
-The level schemses for Johto and Hoenn, especially Johto.
-Emerald Sky Pilllar. Way to make the game's Pokemon weaker.
-"One at a time" items like Mt. Chimney lava cookies or vending machine drinks
