Venusaur vs Torterra

Here's another rivalry for y'all. Today we'll start talking about the Starter rivalries.

Venusaur and Torterra are the Grass type starter Pokemon of Kanto (the very first region) and Sinnoh (the very last one, so far) respectively.

They have similar builds and their typing literally cancel each other out, making them hit neutrally to each other with their strongest STAB attacks. Moreover, they're the only dual type Grass Starter final evolutions in existence (for now).

While Venusaur is specially oriented, Torterra is physically oriented.

So, on one corner we have the Kanto Grass Starter, Venusaur:

and on the other, the Sinnoh Grass Starter, Torterra:

So, which of these powerful Grass types do you prefer?

Which one of them is more useful?

Which one would win in a battle between the two?

I've always been a huge fan of Torterra. I used one in my Japanese Pearl, and in my Platinum simply because they are amazing.

When I used Venusaur in FireRed, I found it rather meh to be honest. Torterra just seems far more useful, and looks cooler.

In a battle? Tough one. I'd like to say Torterra, but Venusaur has status moves that can stall out Torterra, who will take neutral hits from grass, unlike Venusaur.

I'm aware. But that thread hasn't been commented on since December, I believe. I think reviving that thread is against the rules (if it isn't then I'm sorry) so I thought it best to make this one instead.

Torterra is infinitly better than any pokemon including venusaur. Especially when orange.

Torterra is better, in my opinion. In a battle, Torterra would win with STAB Earthquake.

Well since Torterra is a Grass/Ground Type I will go with Torterra. But I do like them both.

Torterra. I like the fact it has a tree and mountain peaks on its shell. Plus, it gets STAB on its Earthquake.

Torterra is without a doubt the best grass starter we have ever had in my humble opinion and probably one of the best grass pokemon currently in existence, so it is clear where my sympathy lies. I love the design of Torterra and it just looks fantastic

Venusaur's faster. It'll attack first. Also, Grass Knot is a clean 2HKO where EQ fails to KO Venusaur back

I also like Torterra's Moves a bit more. They're a bit more stronger that Vensaur.

Well I dislike double weaknesses. I DISLIKE DOUBLE WEAKNESSES.

So I prefer Venusaur. Can setup and sweep quite well coz of its nice defenses(in the lower tier, I mean, of course not in the higher ones).

I kinda agree with you Mr.2Guy. Riding on Torterra back looks kind painful. But on the other hand you can use that tree as a headrest while riding on his back.
