Will OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire be remakes of Ruby/Sapphire or Emerald?

Emerald combined the Aqua/Magma plots more than Platinum or Crystal for their versions. HGSS turned out to be Crystal remakes -- keeping the Suicune plot. So what will the version differences be?

(For starters, probably something re: the screaming box art colossi.)

Also, which Version(s) do you plan on getting?

We it'd be bad not to have the Fronteir imo, was amazing. Expand it.

They're most likely to be remakes with generally the same version differences the original two had. Of course, like HGSS, they'll include elements from Emerald.

What this means for the plot is tricky, though. The original Gold and Silver had nothing to do with Ho-oh and Lugia, so the remakes were free to do pretty much whatever they wanted there. But Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald had significantly different plots with the box legends. The main question will probably be whether Aqua and Magma will be restricted to their respective games, or if they'll be in both.

Since I got the original copy of sapphire I think I'll get the ruby remake.

They'll probably be similar with the usual differences in Pokémon availability/rarity and the two Teams in different versions. Depending on if these will be straight out remakes or actual new games set in Hoenn.

What I'd like to see is something like in 5th Gen's games and have both versions differ also in aesthetics and other elements besides just Pokémon and minor storyline tweaks. For example, Omega Ruby could have a more barren and desolated landscape in some Routes or locations, while Alpha Sapphire is more like the original Hoenn and is very green, full of water and lively. Could be even left for a single new location to not make it way too different. They could have Steven and Wallace work like Drayden/Iris in BW and have them be the Champion in different versions.

Highly doubt any of this will happen, but I really liked that element in 5th Gen and really hope to see it again in other games.

Dunno about champions being different per version. Drayden and Iris shared the exact same team so it didn't make a big difference, but Steven and Wallace specialize in different types... so that would probably lead to one version topping the other.

The version exclusives will probably be the same as the original RS like how HGSS exclusives were laid out like the originals.

The only two major things I am concerned with if elements from Pokemon Emerald are included is regarding both the Battle Frontier and if they are going to use the same layout for the Gym Leaders and Elite Four battles that they did in Emerald, or if they use the layout for those characters that they did in Ruby and Sapphire.

version exclusives are super important to me deciding which game to buy. i'm hoping AS will at least have the pokemon i'd prefer, but if everything else, scenery, locations, items, leaders, evil team and whatever other content are collectively better in OR, then i'll have to get that.

i also like when the box mascot is the opposite of the one you get, so a lot of people go WAAAAH. :) like with B/W and was it G/S? i forget.

I... don't think that has ever happened?

I'm expecting the same distributions as the original games, frankly.

Yeah that's never happened. The closest thing to what you're thinking is that the black pokemon was the cover legendary for White Version and the white legendary was the cover legendary for Black Version. People who thought they'd be getting Black because Zekrom was cooler looking hawed about that for a second before changing their minds to getting White Version.

In original R/S the idea of Team Aqua/Magma doing the same actions for different reasons didn't make sense at some points.

Like when TA tries to fill up the volcanic crater with rainwater to use as a habitat... what exactly was wrong with that that TM wants to stop?
Or when TM steals a submarine to find Groudon in an underwater cave... why exactly was Groudon underwater?

So yeah, I absolutely do not mind if they alter the plot away from making TA and TM directly parallel to each other at every step. Send Groudon somewhere else, and give Team Aqua something evil rather than good to do in place of the volcano plot.
