Hello Everynyan! Welcome to the fifty-third installment in the Video Games Forum's new weekly series of polls!

Centered around the Pokemon series of video games, these polls will be based on the various different aspects of the popular video game franchise. Every Monday, a Video Games staff member will post a new poll that'll remained stickied up on top of the forum. Suggestions for polls and questions can be sent to Joshawott or Zeb and they could possibly used for new polls (credit will be given, of course).

With that out of the way, here is the poll:

Should Gen VI introduce as many new Pokemon as Gen V did?

Gen V brought more new pokemon than any other generation (yes, even more than the first!). Do you think Gen VI should aim to repeat that figure of ~150, or do you think that would be too much and want less, or even, do you think it should introduce more than that? Let us know!

Id say no more than 150 Pokemon for next gen. Adding 150 will bring us to 799 Pokemon, just one short of 800, which is a lot. I wouldn't have a problem with them adding less than that like 100- 120 or something like that to keep players from being overwhelmed with the total number.

Also, they should calm down with the number of legendaries. Soon they wont be special as there will be so many of them

A number between 100 and 115 would be quite fine. But if Game Freak choose to draw out the next generation instead of releasing another one for the 3DS, then they should use DLC to add more Pokémon halfway through the generation (they would debut in new games, but DLC would be used to retain compatibility). In fact, that would be smarter and far more interesting than introducing around 150 Pokémon from the get-go and going overboard with Formes later.

Gen VI should be analogous to Gen II and introduce a smaller group than the preceding generation. (maybe 100-110, including evolutions of older Pokemon)

The quantity... it doesn't really matter much for me, though given how more use Gen V and plenty of other pokémon could have, I'd figure I'd like to see old faces in a new generation.
Given this, I'd figure it'd be a lower number, so yes.

Now, however... I'd like to see cross-generational evolutions. I actually missed them this generation! (Seriously? You don't get anything from trading a Zangoose for a Seviper? They seriously restricted that to a pair of pokémon?) And in hopes it doesn't become like Gen IV, that means introducing a larger overall number to keep a good balance between original families and expanded ones.

750(+101) or 800(+151) seem like nicely rounded numbers to leave the count in anyway. But I'd expect something in-between, specially after B2W2's large pokédex.

I would say no because there is a pattern that the even-numbered gens introduced around 100 new Pokemon wheras the odd-numbered gens introduces the number of Pokemon close to 150.

No, I'd like the even numbered generation pattern to continue. I missed the cross-generational evolutions and baby pokemon. :/

No need for that. 100~110 new Pokémon would be more than enough to me. Also, I'll be glad if Generation VI comes out to be what Generation IV was to Generation I/II in terms of Pokémon: A glorious bunch of new evolution for the already existing ones.

Well, I'd like to see all new pokemon again, having no connections to any of the previous ones, and I like that they did make such a large gen on only new pokemon, but it would be a bit much for them to attempt to do it again. I'd be glad with a number closer to that of gen 3. (maybe even 777? (128 pokes. Highly unlikely, they'd never do something as predictable as a power of 2)

No, unless they are planning to make a super size region, there is no point for the simple reason obtaining them all will be out of hand. You wont be able to fit them all in the area, and that takes the fun out of it.

I would prefer a little less. Some of the new Pokémon in generation V were a bit...hasty...if one might say.

It doesn't matter to much with me, though over 150 would be too mch. I liked what they did with Isshu/Unova. It's nice to have nothing but new pokemon as choices, though it would be nice to see eeveelutions for the other types not done

No. I think Gen 6 should be more like Gen 2, only introducing about 100 Pokémon. Maybe a couple evolutions or pre-evolutions and that's it.

As Dr. Eggman would say, the more the merrier

I'd love to see a LOT of new Pokemon, maybe even the same amount released in this Gen! I think collecting new Pokemon, no matter how slow or tedious it becomes, is always a lot of fun, and gives me a reason to continue playing Pokemon. It's a new tradition for me to have all my games with living Pokedexs, so that means I always GTS when I can! It's fun!

Gen VI should be like Gen II and IV, introducing many new evos and having 100-110 pokemon.

100-110 new Pokemon should be introduced in Generation IV IMO, I also agree that they should make lesser new legendary Pokemon. Game Freak should also think first into making new Pokemon for Generation VI. The Generation VI Pokemon should have the magic that the Generation II Pokemon have, which was the reason why the latter was beloved by most Pokemon fans; for this to work, they should focus, think, and research throughly on making new Pokemon in terms of design, its theme, and its attributes. They should also have fresh new ideas and options on making new Pokemon (as well as moves) to make the new Pokemon interesting; for this, and since they will move to a more hi-tech 3DS, they should finally introduce a (IMO) new type. This might change the metagame, core gameplay, and the type chart, but let's accept the fact that in the end of the day, Game Freak will go into this direction if they want to make the Pokemon franchise interesting as time passes. Light-type should be the type to be introduced by Game Freak in Generation VI.

That's my opinion. :)

Even though Game Freak have broken every other patten any way (for example, it wasn't a four year gen, there wasn't a third version game, and there weren't remakes as well)?

I think they should introduce more Pokemon than this gen. About 173, in fact. The first 130 would be all the original families and new evolutions of Gen V Pokemon as well as the new legendaries, and the other 33 would be evolutions of pre-Gen V Pokemon. I thought 173 because that would bring it up to 822, as the amount of Pokemon has never ended on 2 before (it's ended on 1, 6, 3, and 9).

I think the more the better if they are of a high standard. It is one of the main reasons to buy the latest game. One should, however, consider that if they release smaller amounts of stuff they could draw the franchise out and make it last longer.
