Helllooooo everyone! Seeing as there are a few VGC players on this forum and that I'm a recognized VGC professor myself, I think it'd be pretty cool to get a vgc thread going on here!! and thank you to terashards for the idea!!!!!
This thread can be used for discussing the current meta, battles you've had, teambuilding advice, and everything else related to VGC!! Maybe it could be fun to do like. tournaments or a league or something in the future....idk lol. Yeah!!
 
i am winning. finally a VGC general thread. i could have done it myself but i guess i wanted to wait for actually for-sure interested people to be on here
my VGC skill level is like... enough to consistently get to master rank on the in-game ladder without much trouble, and also win games in master rank, though i've never tried to get to the very top by any means. i collect ribbons and there's the master rank ribbon so i have to do this laddering task semi-regularly.

i'm one of those people who likes using "their favorites" but also recognizes that i'm not going to be winning any tournaments with my weirdo pick and also that for a weird off-meta choice to work, it has to be well supported by a genuinely good team to take advantage of what makes them good and patch up the areas they are not good. so you know, any team really, but exaggerated because you're usually making up for a lot or trying to make something dumb work.

i recently made a shaymin sky team for the silly mythical Regulation J format literally just because i wanted to use shaymin sky and no other reason. (pokepaste)

got to master rank with it and have been collecting ribbons! honestly it was really smooth, i didn't have much in the way of issues with it at all. that being said i did have to transfer my shaymin all the way up from pokemon platinum where i could RNG manipulate it to have 0 HP, 0 DEF, and 0 SPDEF lol... for endeavor of course. this is definitely overkill but it does come up sometimes. (i understand why mythicals aren't typically included in ranked play and why IRL tournaments aren't using this format. not everyone has access to RNG manipulating shaymin in pokemon platinum on the nintendo DS from over a decade ago)

anyway yeah i'm really proud of this silly team for working :3 also shaymin sky is SOO small compared to all the other legendaries running around, it's like comedic. tiny little dog who kills you by biting your ankles (endeavoring to 1 HP)
 
seconding the tournament idea! it could be a fun time. I've got a tiny bit of experience with a regulation H team that I like to use (got me to master rank at the very least). may as well link it here.

for the record I'm probably going to be replacing meowscarada with talonflame to improve my sneasler matchup

edit: decided to not be lazy and fish out the latest version of the team from my showdown

i have made so many torkoal teams during SV's lifespan it's unreal. always love to see another one. That's my little guy!!
most of my time with regulation H was spent on horizons theme teams... lol (specifically my roy and dot ones... skeledirge + kilowattrel as a requirement on one and quaquaval + tinkaton as a requirement on the other. that tinkaton had the most detailed EV spread i think i've ever made and it surprised me with how well it worked)

well at least they're sending off tournaments in SV with regulation H before champions... i heard that a team with feint maushold just won in pittsburgh? kind of based

Reg H made me fall in love with farigiraf and especially torkoal. I love it so much it's my favorite format by far

Omg yes! I’d be so down to participate in or even help set up a draft league. That’s the main way I’ve been able to participate in vgc anyways. We’ve strayed a little bit from vgc since the start (this past tourney was natdex) but it’s still generally similar. I’m an alright vgc player, but a pretty bad team builder. Drafting set pokemon honestly helps me by letting me focus on what to do for each pokemon instead of which pokemon to bring as much. That being said, I’m also not great at drafting teams lmao. I’m an alright battler though, I can usually execute stuff pretty well and make good reads.

So yeah! I’d very much recommend a draft league and could even ask the guy who runs the one I’m in if I could use the tier list he made if you wanted to do that, cuz I know that part was a pain to make for him.

I also heard about stuff like scyther + a maranga berry pokemon winning and like. that's insane. fuzzy on the details though due to it being 2am

oh damn, are they finishing up tourneys for SV or smth? i havent kept up LOL. that is really fun though...if we ever did a tourney here i would kinda want it to be based on reg h

a draft league tournament would be awesome! i've participated in a couple but haven't run any so any expertise is greatly appreciated. if we do that i'd probably want to run it by the mod team though, if we want it to be a more official thing. please feel free to shoot me some ideas and the aforementioned tierlist if you get permission and i could run it by everyone! i've participated in more old gen VGC tournaments than new gen, i did a 2013 VGC format tournament once and it was so fun, but i don't expect anyone else to prefer that format lol

yeah, vgc as a whole is moving to champions for worlds next year and champions will likely come out so people can get acquainted with it before then. SV VGC is almost done (and that's why we have a mythical ranked format for the rest of the year too haha)

megas coming back is going to be crazy (especially if they end up overlapping gimmicks. if we can use tera and megas at the same time the world might explode)

hoping and praying they put tapu koko and alolan raichu in there early on so i can bring back my beloved koko + alolan raichu + pincurchin + electric seed hawlucha setup. the world isnt ready

HAHAHAHA OKAY so basically it was a setup i ran back in like. sword and shield ranked vgc. and it was so fucking funny. i would lead in with koko and alolan raichu. koko's ability would bring up an electric terrain which allowed raichu to become faster than literally everything on the field AND ALSO completely utterly nuke stuff with rising voltage. when koko went down pincurchin came out, which would re-setup the e-terrain WITH a terrain extender. and if and when raichu went down i had an unburden hawlucha with an electric seed in its hand that would kind of just clean up whatever was left behind after raichu went through it all. uou would not believe how many people i made forfeit with this dumb gimmick LMFAOOOO
 
that’s hilarious and i love that (can you imagine a world where tapu koko was in SV with all the future paradoxes? now we have miraidon but i wonder what that would have looked like… much scarier, probably)

well in champions you’re going to have to choose between electric seed hawlucha and mega hawlucha :bulbaLol: i wonder what sort of ability or buffs mega hawlucha is going to have…

i could probably Try to make the team again with miraidon but it's just not the saaaame idk...would still probably be fun though LMAOO edit: just remembered only long raikou (cant remember the name) gets rising voltage now UGHHH

YEAH I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THE NEW MEGAS ARE GONNA BE LIKE!! I could for sure see hawlucha gain some more bulk and attack, maybe sacrificing a tiny bit of speed? i dunno.
 
in general I'm incredibly curious about the way the stats are gonna be allocated especially on weaker mons like victreebel chestnaught and malamar. this is a huge chance for them to become viable or just generally fill a niche and it's always exciting
