If you were to get a game, would it be for fun or plotline? You may think that plotline=fun for some, but when I mean Plotline, I mean thinks just plain storyline is fun but have no high customization content (ie: customizing your character with thousands of clothing options) or in some cases no bonus games. If you are wondering what fun is, think of it like CoD: WaW's Nazi Zombies or Pacman or the first Saint's Row and all that are examples of what I call "Fun" games. They have little no real storyline, but is extremely addictive and/or highly customizable content that some of you guys love so much. There however is the exception of the place inbetween, but I'll leave that off to hear what you guys prefer. Don't bash other's opinions

I'd prefer fun over storyline because whenever I play a all storyline game, there is something I call "All Storyline, No Content". I'm not saying I hate storyline, I do like storyline depending on how I'm feeling, It's just I like Content>Storyline.

Fun by a large margin. It's not a good game if the plot is the only good thing about it.

I'd have to go with fun, because I have played some games with little to no storyline, but my gosh they were so addictive that I played them hours on end. Then I played some games that had a storyline and at first it was fun, but after a while I got really bored with it to the point where I totally put it off.

So yeah, Fun>Storyline

I need both for games to be great for me, honestly .__.
without a compelling storyline I don't want to play for long, and without fun, there's no point playing it.

Plotline for me.

I've played fun games, and they were okay for a little while, but then I got really bored with the game itself. (MySims, Nintendogs, etc.)

I prefer games like The Legend Of Zelda. They have amazing storylines that make the game serious and challenging while still letting the player enjoy themselves.

You know, as long as you don't throw OoT's Gohma into all that, the games are amazing.

So Plotline>Fun for me.

Storyline owns fun.

Think about it, would you replay a game for some fun times or to see an epic scene?

What was wrong with Gohma? I don't mean to get off topic, but what do you mean?

There's a quote that I saw one time that's stuck with me all these years:

"Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." —John Carmack

I replay most of my games for fun times much more than I do for a storyline.
so it's still mostly an opinion thing, I'd think.

Sorry, I'm not against games having good plot lines, but if it is only about the plot then they might as well have just made it a movie or cartoon instead.

Who cares about the story? I want to beat things up/explore/solve puzzles/beat things up! Fun is where the fun is.

@ashfangirl and GroundMaster:

[nasally voice]WHY DON'T YOU TWO WATCH A MOVIE INSTEAD OF PLAY GAMEZ[/nasally voice]

The primary reason I play video games are to have fun. Games like Pac-Man, Tetris, the Mario Kart series, etc. are a blast to play and have been for years. None of those games need any story, just as long as the gameplay is solid.

The only reason you have story in fighting games like the Street Fighter series is to give the characters you’re playing a bare minimum sense of personality.

I love games that have great story and it definitely enhances the experience when playing that game, but what is the point of a game with a great story when the gameplay sucks.

Since, for me, most of the fun comes from the plotline, it's hard to say.
