A while back, I upgraded my system to Windows 7. Everything seems to be working in order except for one thing; my videos. Especially the HD ones. They don't play properly at all and the screen also glitches up. And its not only WMP12, it happens in any player.

Along with that, I've noticed that in 7, whenever you play a video in full screen on 7, whether the video be on YouTube or my PC, it appears rough and pixalated instead of being smoothed out.

Does anyone have any solutions?

Hmm, have you tried using VLC or MPUI to see if it does the same thing?

You probably already know but if you like to use codecs, you can google Mplayer lite and klite codec pack as they seem to work well together on W7. I was using this combo on a windows7 rig running only a pentium4 extreme and it could still handle 1080p.

I'm also just curious about the specs of your machine, like if it can handle HD video or not. (if it did before W7 ignore that)

I don't know about your youtube problem though. Are you saying videos that previously weren't as blocky before W7 are worse now?

EDIT: PS, I don't know if it would help but are your GPU drivers up to date?

I never had this problem but its a good point to mention the GPU/graphics drivers and to update them. When I beta tested Windows 7 I had to download the drivers for my hardware in order to get everything working.

No, I haven't. But I wish to have them run properly on WMP12 itself.

I have both those codecs and had been using them even before 7.

It was able to perfectly run HD videos while I ran XP. Which is why this is a puzzling matter.

And yes. That is exactly what I'm saying. They were not as blocky on XP.

I'm not exactly sure about my graphics card. But it doesn't support Aero for one thing.

Sounds to me like a video card driver issue. Since you can't run the aero feature on your computer.

Unless your computer is really old, you should be able to run aero on W7 without issue. As my Acer netbook with an atom processor from 2008 can run W7 with all the pretty features including aero without hitch, though it can't handle HD. (my friends laptop from 2006 also runs aero well) My experiences with W7 GPU drivers haven't been the greatest. Sometimes the generic windows driver works better than the manufacturer's and sometimes not. In one case, I couldn't raise the resolution higher than 800x600 and aero wouldn't work on my old desktop with the W7 drivers from Nvidias site, but with the default W7 generic video driver everything worked. I'm not sure whether your using the generic driver or one downloaded off the manufacturer's site, but it might be worth a shot to try both methods if possible.
