As we have learned, and some find it despairing, May's Bulbasaur evolved into a Venusaur while she was out carousing Johto.

Personally, I find the fact people were upset by this infuriating because of social bias against overweight people, but never mind this. The point of this thread is to discuss if Bulbasaur/Venusaur should remain Vineshipping (which is against precedence in terms of even specifically owned pokémon having individually named 'ships, but none have ever been considered canon before under these circumstances) or if Bulbasaur/Venusaur should have a new name (which follows precedence, but again, it's a unique case) and make suggestions on what you think it could be called.

This is NOT a Vineshipping discussion thread, OR a thread to discuss how Venusaur makes the 'ship any different now than before. I probably won't be able to stress this enough. If I judge anyone is doing this, there will be infractions. Why? Because I don't want to hear it AND more importantly, it's not the point of this thread. At all.

This is also NOT a case of 'the most popularly voted choice' becomes the answer. I'm looking for the best arguments for either side on WHY it should or should not remain considered Vineshipping, as I am on the fence over the subject.

Well to me personaly i think it should stay Vineshipping. most people that support Vineshipping like it this way and most people have already known Ash and May blubasaurs ship as Vineshipping. to me i see no difference to change the name.

Vineshipping involves Ash's and May's Grass starters from Kanto. So keep calling it Vineshipping.

If both parties can still use Vinewhip, I see no reason to change the name from "Vineshipping."

They both still have their vines, so why should it change? Keep it the way it is.

Agreed, it should stay the same. :D I can't think of any pokémon pairing names that have changed solely because one evolved. I mean, what would that mean? That some people ONLY shipped Vineshipping, and the others the new 'ship?

They're still the pokémon we know and love. I vote for it to stay as is.

Hmmm, all the posts say keep the name the same...but somebody up there voted differently....

HEY, YOU! THE VOTER FOR "OTHER!" COME BACK HERE AND 'SPLAIN, PLEASE! INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!

:-D

In my opinion, it should remain Vineshipping. After all, they can both still use Vine Whip (as it was shown during the Wallace Cup). Not only that, even having evolved, Venusaur is still the same Pokemon in a larger body. (Doesn't know if that many any sense whatsoever.)

Might as well call it Vineshipping. There really isn't anything I can think of that can make a better name for it.

*lost her post, ARGH, rewrite*

Sailormon vs AdvancedStarter vs FireGrass (Ash's Treecko/May's Torchic, Sceptile/Combusken, Sceptile/Blaziken).

Or GrassStarter vs Overgrow vs Leaf (Ash's Treecko/Bayleef, Grovyle/Bayleef, and Sceptile/Bayleef).

Or how about a couple canon examples: Chiko vs Bodyslam (Ash/Chikorita and Ash/Bayleef) and HatThief vs Lap (Ash/Aipom and Ash/Ambipom).

Or: Molest vs Jeremiah (Brock/Croagunk and the prospective future of Brock/Toxicroak [yes, pre-named, whatever]).

The reason /I/ would argue for it to have its own name was because when Venusaur hit the scene, there were some supporters of Vineshipping who believed the 'ship was suddenly DEFUNCT because the she had gotten a size-change and Ash's Bulbasaur (to our knowledge) remains the same as he is (one of the reasons I was so angry at them, because once the girl got "fat" and "unattractive", they jumped 'ship). Trufax. So yes, giving Bulbasaur/Venusaur its own name would be ideal for those who fell to tiny, ungrateful pieces when they learned their sweet little Bulbasaur has turned into a titan next to her paramour.

But the reverse isn't so fitting. Most of those who would be Bulbasaur/Venusaur 'shippers would also likely be Vineshippers themselves (unless they didn't like the pair when they were only Bulbasaur and liked the contract of the pairing now), so it's not a case of: "you 'ship this, so you must not like this 'ship".

How about a variation, like "EvolvedVineshipping" or "NSD-Vineshipping"? (NSD=Nice Size Difference, snerk.)

*facepalm* I know you're joking but...one of these days, I need to write an essay on "how to name your 'ship WELL".

Yes it should remain as vineshipping.

Now unless Bulbasaur likes his women big then it might happen:lol:.

It should reamin VineShipping. They both still ahve vine whip as a trademark. We don't really need a new name, plus, then a lot of people will keep renaming ships and we won't know the difference between SushiShipping and SatoHaru.

As for the overweight conflict- It's supposed to look big, right? (ending being "saur"? As in dinosaur?)It shouldn't be offensive.

I personnaly don't mind Venusaur evolving, now it's not just cute anymore, it's totally beautiful! *cough*justlikeitstrainer*cough*

*face palm* Having vines =/= not the issue. Piplup/Torchic is called BirdStartershipping and they don't /stop/ being bird-like starters when they evolve, but that doesn't stop Empoleon/Blaziken from being called Peckshipping, and vice versa.

No one's renaming anything, actually. I've been putting my foot down on that, as have others.

The idea being leaving Bulbasaur/Bulbasaur as Vineshipping and naming Bulbasaur/Venusaur something else entirely is to give those who like Bulba/Bulbasaur and /not/ Bulba/Venusaur is to give some purist Vineshippers the air to breathe without having Venusaur hang over their heads as being apart of the equation. Some people like her as a Venusaur. Others don't.

There is NO renaming going on here (why do you people even think that?). Bulba/Bulbasaur is going to FOREVER remain Vineshipping. Of that, there is no question.

It's the idea that Bulba/Venusaur will get its own name and not fall under being called Vineshipping for the sake of those who don't like Venusaur as she is.

Yeah, there will be people who say that Bulbasaur "exists in the past" and that should br Vineshipping, yet "Venusaur isn't Bulbasaur now so we need a new ship name"...
