It was announced today in CoroCoro magazine that Volcanion will be distributed in Japan from April 16th until July 15th via serial codes that will be given out with tickets for the next movie installment of the Pokemon anime, Volcanion & The Ingenius Magearna. This means Volcanion will be available for competitive play in just a little over a month.

Discuss!

It's sort of a weird mix between a bulky Water and Heatran. I think Specs will be cool just because it has the strength of Keldeo's Hydro Pump with Scald's burn chance, but I can see Assault Vest, Leftovers and Shuca Berry (maybe Air Balloon too) being popular choices as well. It might even pair nicely with Keldeo, since between them they can pressure Water resists/special walls really hard with their raw power (especially with the burn chances on top). But I'm no great team builder. It'll also be a nice switch in to Azumarill. Water Absorb isn't too useful because it can't do much back to a lot of Water-types with its STAB and it doesn't get Thunderbolt/Energy Ball, but it does mitigate its Stealth Rock weakness a little if it can switch in on a Water move to heal. It does get some nice coverage in Sludge Wave, Earth Power and Focus Blast too, so it's not all bad. (But it's gonna be clicking Steam Eruption most of the time I'm sure :p)

It's pretty obvious OU material in my mind, but guess we'll see. Looking forward to it.

(Also it won't affect VGC since event mons aren't allowed.)

I swear the Steam Eruption spam on 95% of OU battles these days is eventually going to make me kms.

I can't see this guy staying in OU for very long. I'm no competitive expert, but a 110 base power Scald is probably going to get this guy kicked upstairs into Uber. Rotom-W is really the only thing that I can see holding this guy back.

More like Latias (since a burned rotom wash is a useless rotom wash - it doesn't have the raw bulk to take repeated hits AND burn damage AND Rocks every time it comes in, which it does a lot since its role is a pivot. Having Pain Split as its only recovery doesn't help)

Volcanion also checks itself really well, since Specs is the best set by far. Just bring in ur own Volcanion on a Steam Eruption (which ur immune to) or flamethrower (which u quad resist) and click Earth Power or HP elec, whichever u are running
