Before anyone says anything, no, I'm not asking for advice on the Voltorb Flip. Rather, I'm giving advice. While my main DS is being repaired, I used my sub-DS and took a whirl at the Voltorb Flip. Turns out it's not as bad as we all thought it was (or at least as bad as I thought it was). However, while playing it, I have developed some key tactics to this new minigame. I'll list them.

1) Go for small amounts. Try not to exceed 10 coins per round (12 I say, is probably the max you should go for in a single round). Aiming for the max makes it frustrating when you get a high number of coins then get a Voltorb, losing all of them. I managed to get to over 1,000 coins in an hour by following this rule.

2) Know how many Voltorbs are in each row, and then knock off the lower numbers first. Next to each Voltorb icon is a number ranging from 0-4. If you have any, knock out the rows that have a 0 first, then work your way up. That way you can isolate any possible Voltorb cards, and maximize your intake (although, again, aim for small amounts at a time).

3) Ignore the Memo. The Memo is just an annoyance, you don't get any bonus if you guessed right, so just leave it alone.

4) After collecting a small amount, quit and restart the game. After you collect some coins (6-12 roughly), hit Quit. You won't lose the coins, you get to keep them if you quit while holding some coins. That way, as mentioned with #1, if you lose them with a Voltorb, it becomes frustrating.

The good thing I found about the Voltorb Flip is that you don't have to spend tons of cash to get coins (that is also an annoying thing, but it saves the wallet). Also, you're not betting any coins at all. You keep all the coins you earned. So you don't really lose anything. Everything you've earned (either by completing the level or ending it before landing on a Voltorb) is yours to keep. You only "lose" the coins in the current game if you hit a bad card. I actually found the game enjoyable, and I'm lousy at Minesweeper. Sure, I'd rather you add up the coins you get instead of multiplying them (all those blasted 1's, if only you'd add up instead!!!), but once you get the hang of it, you can go to the next level. I actually made it to the fourth level once, but screwed up on the first flip. But still, follow those tactics and you should be able to buy the prizes (it'll take a while, but it's worth it).

Mind if I add something?

The easiest way I've found to tell what was in the row is to add the number of Voltorb and the number of Points in each row. Say you had 3 Voltorb and 4 Points. This adds up to 7. The rows are five wide, so subtract 5. This gives you 2. This means that there are two extra Points hidden in that row. 2s give you 1 extra Point, and 3s give you 2. Therefore, in a 3V/4P row, there would either be two 2s, or one 3.

All right, a little bit easier to follow - in a row where the Voltorb and Points only add up to 5, there will only be 1s or Voltorb. Therefore, you should avoid these ones.

Finally, the more Points you uncover before hitting a Voltorb, the less levels you'll go down. So if there's a 0 Voltorb row, hit all of them, even if they're all ones.

I've managed to get up to Lv. 8 before using this, so I hope it helps. ^_^

That fact makes the memo function surprisingly useful, and I'd have to disagree with advice #3. If you check for all the rows with a total of 4 and 1 voltorb, 3 and 2 voltorbs, 2 and 3 voltorbs, or 1 and 4 voltorbs, and memo them all off quickly, it's easy to see where your possible multipliers are hiding. And if you mark off the "dead" rows, you never risk a voltorb over a square that can only contain a voltorb or a useless 1.

You know, truthfully, I never noticed the points. I always looked next to the Voltorb icon, never above it. So, I've combined both strategies: mine and Azure Dragon's, and it works well. As for the memo thing, yeah, I was wrong about it, but I still ignore it. It doesn't help me, so I leave it alone. Oh, before I forget, watch out for when the game says "Is this what you're expecting!?". Usually, that means you landed on a Voltorb. It doesn't always mean that, but a good 99% of the time it does.

I can use this info to get ice beam rather quickly. Thank you.

That was some good advice there. I tend to get overconfident during Voltorb Flip (because I get a lot of coins and I run into a Voltorb afterward). I use the Memo, but only when I identify where the Voltorb are hiding in a row (so I don't forget).

Forget dat! I'm trying to get a Prygon with that advice! LOL

Porygon is one coin cheaper, so it is really the same thing when it comes to coin collecting -_-

And why stop when you have 12 coins? After reaching a higher level you want to stay there, or even better get even higher up, and even if you hit a Voltorb, so what? You will fall down anyway if you have not opened enough squares, and don't trying to reach higher level and thus winning more coins faster seems, to me, just idiotic.

You say you won 1000 coins in an hour? I won 3000 coins in one game, took me 15 minutes to get there and on the way I'm sure I got about the same amount.
I got 6 times what you got in 1/4 of the time you used. Getting as much coins as possible in each game is the best way to get more coins faster.

I wrote down the income I got when playing casually (getting to higher levels and sometimes falling down), and I could get the peak income of about 1,000 coins in 10 minutes, and made at least 300 coins per each 10 minutes. Your advice may help some, but I find it largely ineffective - a high level (5 or 6) can give you over 500 coins alone, and it isn't that hard to get there.

Can i say somethin?

The easiest way that i found is do like you said and knock out all the 0 rows first. Then what i do is hit all the squares that are in 2 rows that both have 1 voltorb in them.

If you just want coins, try downloading This Calculator.

Enter your game info, and it shows you the probability of voltorbs and high numbers in each space.

It's not the best calculator...I tried it and got a 0% probability for a Voltorb being on a given square. So I say, okay, and then click that square, leading to:

:boom:

and then to:

:banghead:

So...take that with a grain of salt.

Once you have it downloaded, you need a program like WinRAR to extract it I believe. Don't worry, the program is free.

That's funny, I've never had it mess up like that. After you flip over a panel, you can mark in the calculator what value the panel was, and it will reset the calculator. Example: I flip a panel that is either a 2 or a 3, and it is a 3. I click on the panel, then in the coins box of the top right corner, I enter the coins the panel contained, then click update. The calculator will eliminate all combinations with that panel being a 2 and reset your probabilities.

I have to agree with Battaman on this one. Just 12 coins per game and then quitting? I try to rack it all up. If you're playing along and you have say...30 coins already and you obviously are still playing that same game, you have a 2 or a 3 left somewhere. Once you find it...well. If it's a 2, it's going to double your score (30 x 2 = 60) and if it's a 3 it's going to triple your score (30 x 3 = 90) so for me, that's a great thing. I've gotten I think between 800-900 as my highest for in just one level.

Here's my personal advice:

1) Look for the rows/columns with 0 Voltorb in them first. Flip over all their cards. You know that if a row has 0 Voltorb, it's safe. Even if it's going to be all ones (5pts/0Vol), then it's still cards that are face up.

2) Then look for the rows/columns that equal five. For instance, 2 points and 3 Voltorb. There are five squares in a row/column. If there are 3 Voltorbs, that means that 3 of those 5 squares will have a Voltorb, leaving the other two as a 1. Since you know that any card in that row or column are either dangerous (Voltorb) or worthless (1), they're not worth flipping over. So I get out the memo then and mark that all the squares in that row/column are either a 1 or a Voltorb. This goes for the 4/1 combo, though be careful if it's 4 Voltorbs.

3) When playing, keep track of your points and Voltorbs that are LEFT in the column/row. If you have 2 Voltorbs in one row and there are only two squares in that row not flipped, they MUST be Voltorbs. Memo that in so you don't accidentally flip them later.
Take note of what the leftovers add up to. For instance, 4 points and 2 Voltorbs. You just found the 2 in that row. 4-2=2 This means that you have 2 points and 2 Voltorbs left in that row which has 4 unflipped cards. This means that those 4 unflipped cards are either a 1 or a Voltorb (worthless and dangerous) so memo that in.

4) If you have a row/column with 4 Voltorbs and a point number of 2 or 3, that means that in that row/column there MUST be a 2 or 3 and then four voltorbs. Memo in that in that row/column each card is either 2/3 (whichever it is) or a Voltorb.

5) If you're stuck, especially in the beginning if you don't have ANY cards flipped yet, take a risk. Look to find your 2 highest possible rows/columns. This would be highest amount of points and then lowest amount of Voltorbs. So 8 points and 1 Voltorb? Good. Find the highest row and the highest column and look where they match up. Flip that card. A LOT of the time I've had it come up as a 2 or 3. SOME of the time it comes up as a 1. RARELY does it come up as a voltorb.

6) The more cards flipped determines whether or not you stay in that level or drop down if you flip a Voltorb. I don't know the exact number or whatever, but I have noticed that if I have a lot of the cards flipped and flip a Voltorb, I don't drop a level. If I'm at the beginning of the level and my first card flipped is a Voltorb, I'm going to drop a level or two (if not all the way to lvl 1). Hence why it's better to flip a 1 if you KNOW it is a 1 than to not a flip a 1 if you KNOW it is a 1.

As for the "Is this what you're expecting!?" I've had it appear just a few times. If I was forced to guess, I would get this. Or if I'm flipping over the last 2 or 3, then I would get this. It doesn't mean it's a Voltorb, it just means the game wants me to think there's suspense.

Using this strategy, I'm able to rack up tons of coins. Got my Dratini this way.

Depends on your luck

sorry, but i'm gonna have to disagree with this since the memo pad has been very helpful for me and what else would it be there for anyway?
voltorb flip is not an easy game, you have to try and find a way to make it easy for yourself.

Depends on your luck

Not always. Once you know how to play and figure out some strategies and tips, it's more dependent on your skill than luck. Whereas, in my personal opinion, the slots are more luck than skill.

So with Voltorb Flip, you can rack up points quite easily once you get the hang of it and know what you're doing.

Basically what Kemine just said, I have a similar but slightly different strategy, but I won't be posting it now as Im posting this from my iPod Touch via Wifi. But using that method or something close to it will rack up a lot of points, using my strategy I've gotten to about level 6-7 and at that level you'll be making 5000+ coins, way faster than 11-12 coins and then banking.

Also, like some I find the memo to very useful.

The memo makes it incredibly easy to remember what's where and to reason out where the Voltorbs are >_>

Also the whole "figuring out the points and the voltorb by adding them up together" thing isn't ground breaking. They tell you that straight up when you use the help function. After that, its just a matter of reasoning it out.
