I was thinking. It says on bulbapedia about voltorb that:

Voltorb is a Pokémon that looks like a Poké Ball with a face, minus the button. It was first seen in the plant that modern Poké Balls were invented

Sapphires Pokedex entry:

Voltorb is extremely sensitive - it explodes at the slightest of shocks. It is rumored that it was first created when a Poké Ball was exposed to a powerful pulse of energy.

Maybe for Gen V, I had ideas for new "forms" of voltorb/electrode based on all other types of pokeball. Now, the other pokeball/voltorbs could have secondary types and learn moves based on their type and stats could differ on each one. All forms would be part electric as the pulse of energy that creates them, makes them electric like original. My ideas are for voltorbs that come from:

Great/Ultra ball voltorbs would just have higher stats than normal voltorb

"Safari Ball" voltorb: Not sure about this one

"Level Ball" Voltorb: Ability: Same Level. (Works same as catch rate, but this is now attack or sp attack)

"Lure Ball" Voltorb: Eletric/Water

"Moon Ball" Voltorb: Evolves with a moonstone. Has certian moves: moonlight, wish, cosmic power, swift

“Luxury Ball” Voltorb: Basically a voltorb, but is less prone to self destructing as it likes itself or something

“Net Ball” Voltorb: Acts a bit like castform. When Rain dance is used, it turns into water type, and if um, maybe sunny day or a new bug move is used, it turns into a bug type.

“Dive Ball” Voltorb: Ups speed underwater and when battling on/in water.

“Nest Ball” Voltorb: This one ups critical hits on low power moves and not effective moves

“Repeat Ball” Voltorb: Ability: Remember. Remebers what pokemon it has battled and uses this to up its power/evasiveness on pokemon its battled before (wild ones mainly). Ability does not work on battle tower challanges for obvious reasons, be too easy to win with this pokemon then

“Timer Ball” Voltorb: Has ability metronome. Ups power on moves used more than once (same as metronome held item)

“Heal Ball” Voltorb: Has ability to heal its own status problems. Can learn Heal Bell/Aromatherapy and Acupressure

“Dusk Ball” Voltorb: Part Dark. Ups sp attack in darker areas

“Quick Ball” Voltorb: Has a high base speed stat. Can learn quick attack, extremespeed.

“Cherish Ball” Voltorb: Event pokemon only, maybe with one or two new moves.

“Dark Ball” Voltorb: An evil pokemon, created by TR to copy how the other pokemon were created. Knows ultimate dark moves.

“Pester Ball” Voltorb: Has a high chance of using “poison explosion” on incounter. Like explosion, but not as powerful and may badly poison foe.

The master ball voltorb is the most powerful, but I don’t know what to do with that

Any ideas you have or whatever, post here. And if anyone wants to make sprites/artwork for these new voltorb forms, that would be good too

It's an interesting concept. I wouldn't be surprised if Voltorb was given alternate forms in the future.

That's pretty nifty. I'd love to see some new Voltorbs.
Maybe I could draw some for you?

well, if you like, would be neat.

New forms of voltorb would make the game way more interesting. The electrodes are simply evolutions of the said voltorbs. The one that has metronome ability can't use the item metronome or moves would be too powerful if used for a few turns at a time

I don't think new Voltorb ideas would be possible. Voltorb and Electrode are basically Pokémon's equvilent of Chest Monsters; Monsters that are disgused as ingame items.

Also, more then a dozen variations would only take up space that could be used for more original ideas, it also encrouches on Eevee's main gimmick of having multiple forms.

Take up space? Just because we only got 107 Pokémon in IV doesn't mean that alternate forms take up space. There's a TON of space for more forms. And no one's complaining about Unown.

I like the idea however would it evolve into that type of Electrode?
If so would the Pokéball be upside down?

Good idea, I got 2 spare Master Balls anyway, the ultimate Voltorb!

well they could just add extra PC boxes for the new forms. There is only about 20/21 of these and about 26-28 unnown forms though.

Maybe they could use this a the next gen "bad guy" plot, a bunch of scientists from this orginization wanted to know if the original voltorb could be similarly created from other pokeballs, and so these new form were created by the team getting all the other pokeballs they could find. Only the balls from the games could be used though for new voltorbs or something. Might make a fanfic of that soon

I ment space in the game for them, not box space.

The only problem with this is that Voltorb are just common Pokémon. If it were some kind of legendary on par with Dialga and Palkia, then maybe it might work, but they're not.

I'd like to see a Master Ball Voltorb

Well I made a sprite. If this works. Here goes...

Hope it worked.

Quite a neat idea I must say, although I do not believe that Voltorb is interesting enough to warrant any attention in the future. As has been pointed out above it was designed to be a "chest monster" and as there don't seem to be any new chests so far, the new formes remain unlikely.
