I enjoy reading some of the commentary on FoxNews.com for the sheer insanity value, and this is a topic that's come up WAY too often. O'Reilly and John Gibson are constantly complaining about some assault on Christianity because Wal-Mart has signs that say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" (that was the topic of an entire editorial from Gibson).

So...am I the only one who thinks that this is overblown? Is this even an issue? Does anyone feel their religious freedoms are being trampled on because they have to go underneath the "Happy Holidays" sign on their way to the massive Christmas section while fighting off other shoppers on their quest for the best bargain? Does anyone else think that FoxNews is a little more ultra-conservative than usual lately?

They're just trying to rant about something. They can't talk about politics because the side they represent is a laughing stock right now. So they're focusing on anything else they can think of.

If it says Christmas, then the Atheists will complain. They are going into neutral ground, but of course that isn't good enough for some extremists. Nobody wins, but who really cares?

No. Yes. Yes. No.

I think it's nice that they recognize that there's other holidays this time of year.

Now, maybe some carols about said other holidays would be even better. Equal opportunity annoyance!

I'm an Atheist but I love and go out of my way to celebrate Christmas - as a holiday of humanity. I'm a firm believer that if Christmas is VITAL to the world. We need at least one day a year where human spirit wins over everything else.

A fantastic story about WWI British and German Soldiers calling a temporary ceasefire on Christmas Day and playing a game of footie with eachother across No-Mans land before giving eachother presents - presents that were obviously personal belongings that meant something to themselves.

I mean, if people can do that during one of the worst wars in history - I'd firmly believe that everyone can do it these days.

But the change from 'Merry Christmas' to 'Happy Holidays' is hardly going to change that spirit is it? I mean, for Godsakes, they're just words - it's what you mean when you say them that matters.

Well, there are always 3 holidays major holidays in the month of December and Ramadan (EVIL MUSSELEMEN) comes around every once in a while. Divali takes place early in November, and there are some other minor holidays.

Hanukkah doesn't even rate in the top 5 most important holidays on the Jewish calendar.. It's just "important" because it's close to XMas. And you know my feelings on Ramadan :)

Translation-N00K MECCA KILL MUSSELMEN!

As for Hanukkah, anyone who's seen the Hebrew Hammer knows all about it.

Kwanzaa's a joke.. WTF is "musselmen" oO;;

I don't see how this is a huge issue, since Christmas is more of a secular holiday to most people than a religious one.

I say we should just celebrate a global winter holiday of general goodwill, loving eachother, and lots of food and gifts.

And we should have it two days after Christmas.

Which just so happens to be my birthday.

This season, forget Christmas; celebrate Pie Day.

...

*grin*

Don't forget that other important winter holiday.

Festivus.

Gather 'round the pole!

But, wouldn't having the religious part of Christmas paraded about by corporations and stores kind of irk real Christians? I agree that it is stupid to not even acknowledge Christmas, but "happy holidays" is fine, because you've got more than one there (New Year's included).

I dont see a big deal concidering, IMO, that over half of the people that celebrate christmas do it for the completely wrong reason. When the real purpose is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It dont really care about the sign cause christmas isnt the only holiday this month, its just the 2nd most celebrated. Probably with New Years eve being celebrated the most (yay lets get drunk and count down from 10).

How should we celebrate Pie Day? With free-range Brock? =)

Always a good festivity, but the only requirements are sacrificial cakes and bowties.
